Wish you were there. Bonnaroo 2006

Wow. MikeySunshine, Josephus, Peep and Dipso went to Manchester TN for Bonnaroo and had a great time. There was so much going on and while you can't imagine what theat place is like, I will try to give you a brief insight in to what you missed by not joining us.

What is Bonnaroo? Well it is the music festival of our age. There are about 80,000 festival goers and probably double that number of other folks; security people, support staff, dirty hippies with no ticket and vendors. So imagine a city of almost a quarter million people, gathered for 4 days of music and fun in the Tennessee sun. The living section really is just a field that is loosley organized into roads and trails and camping pods. The festival took place in a more controlled area called Centeroo. Centeroo has all the time passing activities and music venues.

The things you could do at Centeroo include: watching one of the several dozen bands that played on the two main stages, three secondary tents, three longue tents, or two small stages. If you aren't in to live music, you could go to the arcade / discoteque and listen to a world class DJ spin his hits while you plunk quarters in to old timey games like Burger time, or you could play one of the several x-box 360s they had available, Or you could go to the silent disco. The silent disco also had a world class DJ spinning, but in order to hear it, you had to use the wireless headphones that they provided. If music ain't your thing, You could go to the Dolby Cinima and see various movies (including Rocky IV), sporting events ( USA world cup action, Miami Heat B-Ball finals) or documentaries (Spinal Tap). There was also a comedy tent with joke telling professionals. On Saturday and Sunday there were circus performers doing their acts over near the Ferris wheel.

The music was fantastic. I'm sure everybody who was there will give you a different report on the music, but most will aggree that it was great. In my mind the top acts were; G Love, Beck, Atmosphere, Tom Petty, Mike Doughty, and Phil Lesh.

The menu at Bonnaroo (Including Lunch) was mostly from Costco. We had pop tarts, granola bars and fruit coctail for breakfast. Lunch was Ham and turkey sandwiches, and dinner was generally chicken.

Bonnaroo was a good time and a great opportunity to meet some other OWFLers. I wish you could have been there. Oh well, maybe you'll be there in 2007 when we go with an RV and VIP tickents.

Since we're back to one post per day Please let us all know What's for Lunch today?

I didn't have much time between returning home and getting to work at the office. So my post is not well thought and not nearly complete.

I did not mention in the post the best culinary delight of the festival. Unicorn's Bonnaroo cakes. She made great little tie-dyed cupcakes that were super savory. As we rolled in to our campsite and started to set up, I wanted to help create a community among our neighbors, so I offered them some special Roo Cakes. Without exception the folks I offered the cakes to said, "are they really special?" I said, "of course they are. Unicorn made them especially for us to enjoy at Bonnaroo." Then the neighbor decided not to take one since they were not the same kind of 'special' that they were looking for.

Them dirty hippies don't know what they missed. Uni, thanks.

Cute little dirty hippies always looking to "mow the grass". Aren't they cute?

I wanna hear about what the vendors had and more importantly did chicks take off their tops?

I'm looking for something to eat today ... what goes good with canoeing?

Bonnarroooo sounds cool. Too bad i'm allergic to hippies.

For canoeing, gotta go with sangwiches. Easy to pack and handle, and they keep well until its time to munch. Other canoeing necessity, beer.

Awwww...thanks for the shout out sunshine! Stupid hippies...they missed out on the oreo surprise in the center!!

Glad u guys had a good time and that everyone got back safe! I got several updates from Jo...most of them under some kind of influence I assume. Although he probably thought the same thing about me considering one night I was out fishing in a gated community's creek at 2AM...caught three catfish and a bluegill though.

Anyways...I don't know what I'll be lunching on today. I brought some udon soup from Trader Joes due to extreme laziness because I got about four hours of sleep last night. For some reason I decided to stay up until 2:30 watching the movie "Radio".

Diz - r u in Houston?

Damn. I love dirty hippie conventions. They're kind of like other conventions, only people are generally identified by their bowls instead of those obnoxious nylon name badge pouches.

I couldn't roll to Bonnaroo because I was at a cabin outside of Pinedale, Wyoming with a bachelor party. There wasn't as much music, but I have no doubt that we were competitive on the BO/AssStink front.

One thing relevant I can say about Wyoming is that lunch on Saturday was a steak sandwich. Steak sandwiches in cattle country are a little different. I basically had a medium-rare three-quarter inch strip steak on a kaiser hoagie roll. It's far too seldom that I order a steak sandwich and wind up with a steak that could just as easily been served on a plate as a regular ol' steak. Good stuff.

Not sure what is up for lunch today. I spent Sunday night on the red-eye back to DC, and yesterday at work was a bit hazy with beery weekend residue and breathing airplane for so long. So, today is the first time my mind is back in line with my appetite. I have a feeling there may be some sort of sit-down lunch in my near future.

Sounds like you boys had a great time. Jealous! Ah, sigh. My own damn fault, I guess.

Lunch today should have been spargel-fest at my mom's house (spargel = asparagus auf deutsch). Every year she has an asparagus-fest for her friends - she makes 5 or 6 courses, each featuring the wonderful asparagus. Mmmm . . . I've gone the past couple of years, but this year was a no-go - too much work. :-( But I do get to go over for leftovers for dinner tonight! So there's that! Yay! I'm sooooo looking forward to it. Not sure what's on the menu this year, but I'm sure it will be fantastic . . . my mom's an excellent cook.

So lunch today = leftover drunken noodles from yesterday & leftover tachine from last week (yikes! Will have to nuke for a good couple of minutes). Hopefully that will be enough to satisfy. Although I had 2 cuppas & a mini-croissant for breakie & now I'm starving. Durn it.

Um .... Radiohead report.

Now.

Ah, Miu, I would if I could, but it would never make it up there - it wouldn't even make it to the post office. I'm such a spargel pig, it would probably be half gone before it left the garden. Alas! And it wasn't a very good crop this year. V. disappointing. :-( Maybe next year!

I think I'm heating up lunch now. I'm starving.

uni - yes

Radiohead was in my opinion the weakest of the headliners. It felt like they were filming a video, not playing for my enjoyment. They played for a long time, but I left pretty early to prepare for the latenight shows. I felt like a lot of the sounds that I heard them play sounded like they were whining about something or other. The show right before them was really a great performance by Beck. He was so much better that I think he should have gotten the headlining spot and Radiohead should have been given a minor slot at a side stage. I'm sure there are folks who will say that radiohead was the best show of the weekend, but I ain't one of them. I was unimpressed.

due to yesterday's post, i am going to get a quizno's flatbread chopped salad. plus, HT and i will work out.

where's jo? oh czar jo...come out and play!

Heliocentric said...

Jo;s only got a few minutes to recover from Bonnaroo before he has to travel for work, so I imagine that he's sitting in his work space cramming in everything he needs to do before leaving again in 4 hours.

damn this quizno's salad is huge...but it's sure cobb-tastic!

Anonymous said...

had a salad, not quiznos though. Perhaps I should get me one of them tomorrow.

Is is the cobb Lachoi?

What's the recommendation on that?

I am having my second lunch - I picked at my drunken noodles more than I thought yesterday - there wasn't very much left. Also I picked out all the meat, so it was only noodles & like 2 green beans. Still tasty, though! So now I'm eating my saffron-chicken-rice tachine with a side of yogurt (the tachine's a little dry after sitting in the fridge all week . . . ). Yum.

I'm so getting a Quizno's salad tomorrow! They look super-fattening. Moo.

I'm sticking with Peep. Sunshine sounds like a big creep.

I was right on with the sit-down lunch prediction. Ended up at a Thai joint down the street. Went with the tremendously creative chicken pad thai and tom yum soup lunch special.

And, the server screwed up putting in our order so I even got to take an extra long lunch with a free Thai iced coffe.

YAY! for lunch!

uni- not yet but we may be get more rain over the night and then I'll not be in at work.

I had a turkey sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie. It was less than thrilling.

For the record, Beck sang creep and Radiohead did not

watchdog, the quizno's flatbread cobb salad is very tasty. however, let me warn you that if you have sensitive skin (as i do apparently), don't let the ranch dressing hit any part of your face else you will develop a zit the size of mt st. helen's. i'm not kidding you, i have one on my chin right now...i can only speculate that it's due to a "brush" with that heavy ranch dressing.
