the blog: blandness of bread and water

Sorry to break into the schedule here...but I think something should be done about the current "situation". As we all the know Jo, has started his blog not of solidarity but solitary confinement. I'm not sure if the lack of participation on the OWFL has something to do with what's going on or if people are just busy at work. BUT I do feel some sort of hestitation and lack of unity in what once was an outlet for discussions on a topic that we all love (lunch) and friendly banter between our cyber-egos. Is this how we want things to continue? Is this going to help our beloved OWFL society grow and thrive in a world where "lunch" is typically seen as a minute break in the day to grab a bland bologna and cheese on white bread (with NO mayo) ??!! UGH!
It's time to rejoin forces folks...TABULA RASA!!!! Let bygones be bygones!
I know that we all miss eachother, so let's just get over it and move on. We are not merely a democracy but a lunchocracy!! It's time to reach down deep within our hearts to recognize what once was our purpose, our mission....our solidarity!!
Jo - just a message to you by some chance you are lurking...there once was a man...our dear Martin Luther King, Jr. We all know of his 'I have a dream' speech. Jo - you once had a dream...a dream of a utopian lunch society. Are you so willing to let go of your dream so easily?? To let it slip by and have the McDonalds and Applebee's of the world take over and determine that a $4 extra value meal of reheated grimaces is the acme of the everyday working wo/man's lunch hour???!! Pshaw! Shame on you!
We are better than that...we are bigger than that...We are The Original What's For Lunch!!!!
Carpe Lunchem! Carpe Lunchem!

I have tried to extend an olive branch to Jo - I want him back. It's been suggested that a Mayonnaise Appreciation Day in his honor could do the trick.

This is no way to live. We're doing the time-honored tradition of lunch a disservice by continuing like this.

I give Uni the highest praise for playing peacemaker. and also for putting up a nice message at my new little playpen blog. I appreciate it. Thanks also to miu for coming by and being her normal sweet self.

I want to apologize if my creation of a personal lunch blog is seen as a slap in the face to OWFL, which I still love and cherish. It is not meant to be one. Nor is it meant to be a competitor to OWFL, which would be silly. It is simply a place for me to hang out and flex my puny blogging muscles my own way.
i will never be as open and honest as Jada and be able to tell my life story on a blog, nor will I even be interested in giving personal snippets as lachoi or ht have done. But I have harbored a desire to try and blog for sometime and this is the beginning of it. So feel free to stop by.

With regards to my feelings about what went down over here, I admit i was a bit upset at first. I don't think i was being a "whiny crying baby" as diz called me, but I was a little pissed that I was being used as somewhat of a punching bag in order to return the blog to a policy that I had instituted and championed in the first place, the schedule. In fact the only reason the schedule was transformed into the experimental two post solution was to appease some rather vocal and angry owflers who at the time compared the schedule to some Orwellian plot to stifle independence of thought and creative freedom. I disagreed at the time but, in order to try and keep everyone happy I came up with an idea to try and get the best of both worlds. It apparently failed and the chant of the day was "eff the czar".

Of course I know this is all fun and games but a simple comment saying "let's go back to one post and a schedule" probably would have worked. It also would have been nice to engage in some discussion, but, alas, as everyone knew, i was blog incommunicado and could make no reply. Oh well. Change is good. But you have to excuse a bit of my pissiness if you think about the history of this great blog (almost a year old). It started out with just a handful of folks and we had a ball...as it grew some of the original group fell off, in fact three members of what I'll call the original 4 all resigned at one point and I was left alone to try and keep the blog going. So i took "eff the czar" a little personal when I read it.

But I'm over it now. I actually disagree with Uni and think the posts and the participation have been great lately and I can only point to the whole "coup" as a reason for the renewal of energy. And that is good.

I look forward to the day when others will take over the "mantle of leadership" around here and put their own personal stamps on OWFL. I know for a fact that HT and I are not the only ones capable of herding you cats. And don't use "time" as an excuse for not stepping up. If you are here at all you have got the time.

As for me I am going to keep blogging over at the new digs and, if you'll have me, I will resume commenting on your posts over here. I will refrain from writing my own posts on OWFL for the next few months until I figure out what I want to do at my blog, but I will be here often, hell more than often. I don't think I could leave if I tried (and I kinda did).

Anyway thanks for the opening to get this written Uni. Looking forward to the next HH.

Thanks jo...and I'm sorry if my comment about the "blandness" of recent posts came across the wrong way. It is in no way a refelction on the recent topics and participation. More to the overall spirit of the blog...which I feel was slightly taken down a notch. I have no protests to any of the leaders, past or present. I find the whole process a bit amusing if not taken to far. I'm so neutral that I should be swiss. Everyone has played such a great role in the development of our 'society' it would be a great loss and shame to shake the dynamic that lured us all here to begin with.

Man, maybe I don't know how to read emotion in the few sentences of a blog comment, but I had no idea there was drama, or even a problem.

I dig the OWFL and enjoy the personalities present. In fact if I may admit, the personalities and banter brings me bck more than the discussion about lunch does.

I will remain loyal and frequent this blog until I can no longer remember to do so.

But if I wanted to check out jo's side project, I haven't been given any idea of how to get there. What up with that?

Long Live the Czar!
