Apocalypse Now - WFL? 6/6/06

I just hope if anything does happen today...that it happens AFTER lunch!

Josephus was scheduled to post a side order today. I hope his wrath is gentle... and after lunch.

WFL today is Senor Chotchkey's. The company is picking up the tab, which is fine for the burrito, but they won't get me the 2 Sierra nevada Pale ales that I usually like to get over there.

It's all good Sunshine...as defined by Mr. Jo...his 'Side Order' SHOULD be a separate post and topic from the WFL-only lunch disucssion-post. It's back to that dual-posting craziness that his czar-like personality is trying to push upon us.

So, last night, I wound up having a zuchinni and a yellow squash over nothing. I forgot about them in the crisper drawer for a week, and the rest of the cupboard was getting bare. I sauteed them in a little olive oil with some diced onion and a couple of raisins. (The raisins were an experiment because they were there, and I thought they might add a little sweetness. They served pleasantly well, although I don't think it is going to be a staple for me.)

The point of the story is that I woke up surprisingly refreshed today, and I think it may be because last night's dinner was the healthiest thing I've put in my mouth in weeks.

So, I turn to you, my health consultants, for a lunch that might continue the streak: what's a brother do for something with a bit of the healthy and a heap of the tasty on it?

Earthquake, it sounds like you're looking for some sort of Spamwich. that's about as healthy as you can get.

If I die in Houston, I'm going to be pissed. Though, with this tunnel business keeping the people underground, and all the rest, it's possible I'm in Hell already anyway.

(sorry Diz - dinner last night was actually not bad; went to Antica Osteria, which I guess is out near Rice, near the woman's house where we had drinks - she lives in a neighborhood called "West University." I stopped paying attention though after we passed the ridiculous Joel Osteen Ministries "church" b/c it's just the silliest thing I've ever seen)

Anyhoo, I'm about to blow this popsicle stand and put my butt on a plane back to civilization. I have no idea WFL - but I promise it'll be something that's available within the confines of the airport.

In honor of the Day of the Beast, I'd really like a hunk of meat, seared - like Brazilian BBQ maybe. All smokey-like. However, I will have to settle for leftover pizza, b/c a hunk of meat sounds expensive and I have no money. And the leftover pizza is free. Sigh! Sorry Satan!

HT, how ironic that you passed the Joel Osteen Circus, er, Church on this, the most satanic of days! (well, it was already 6/6/06 over in Asia when you passed by, I'm sure . . . ).

Tonight I will have a malevolent mojito and possibly a cursed caphrini! Mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

Oh, LT, the irony was not lost on this little HaterTot.

I'm fairly certain that if the "rapture" comes, that monstrosity is going to be Ground freakin' Zero. I have no doubt that the portal to Hell is found in the parking garage beneath that joint.

I'm having a burger for lunch. Not sure from where yet.

Speaking of the undiluted seed of satan, Ann Coulter released her latest book today.

Not sure what's for lunch. But its gonna have to come out of the cafeteria. sigh...

EQuake- get yourself a fresh deli sandwich of some sort (if you're aiming for 'healthier' try and find freshly carved roast turkey breast)and stack it up with fresh veges. I'm a big fan of grated carrots on sandwiches, a bit of sweet crunchy flair.

Also, if you like experimenting with raisins throw them in your meatball mixture...they keep the meat moist and add some sweet flava-flav.

didn't hit the cafeteria, but rather the buffet next door.

Got:

Korean Chicken
Sweet and Sour Shrimp
2 onion rings
1 pot sticker
some spinich
some broccoli
calamari
general tso's chicken

all for under $7...not bad

WatchDog you should give Jo some lessons on how to stay under $10 at a buffet setting.

Lesson 1: If the have a mid-sized box, use it. Don't use the big box because you'll fill up whatever size you use.

Lesson 2: Go with things that have a high value to weight ration. Ex. sushi = high value
Pile of cucumbers = paying $10 for something you'd get for 30 cents at the supermarket

Uni, I'm digging the carrots on sammies lately too, but I only like them when they're playing with lettuce, they don't get along well with sprouts.

Rice or "West U" houses one of the best little French restaurants in this world. Don't ask me how they ended up in this unfortunate place but they did ... just like me ... near perfection but located just this side of the opposite.

Regardless, good that you found yourself with people of taste if not very happy with the surroundings. I found northern PA the SAME WAY!! So I understand! (except that I couldn't find a decent meal).

So I guess you can find good eats in hell ... just not in the Poconos.

Ummm...if the end of the world is coming I'd really prefer for it to happen before 5...at least I'd get out of work a little earlier.

Don't ask me about spelling miu...I already owe peep and jo cupcakes.

Sunshine- if you're diggin' on the carrots try some thinly slice radishes.

today was a lunch meeting at old ebbitt grill. i ordered the fried chicken salad with avocado dressing. i thought the avocado dressing would be bomb, but it was only so-so...needed some salt or something. i think it's just b/c i love me some honey mustard dressing with fried chicken strips...it's so tasty.

dizkonekdid said...

Uni I believe the term for "thinly sliced is "julianed"

Lady A said...

I don't want to cut radishes into long, thin strips...I'll stick with thinly slicing them into little radish coins.
