Late post, What you 2nd lunchin' on?

Many Apologies team. I came in to work today to begin the final half week of my working contract, not exactally looking forward to it, in fact hoping that I would just be done already, but I found my account expired and my name removed from the roster. I had to work with the IS department to get reinstated and thusly have been scrambling to get things done this morning. And Blogger was been disrespecting me lately too. those are my excuses, Receive them as you will.

Ok so As I was waiting for the IS guy to give me access again, I went out to get a late breakfast, and it got me thinking, why not break up your meal breaks during the work day.

What is it about the lunch break that we love? Is it the way it breaks up the day? If that is the case, why not break up the day more often?

I think it would be interesting if instead of one one hour break during the day that we experiment with two 30 minute breaks. Take a late breakfast around 10:00 and a late lunch around 3:30, and I think the day would be nicely portioned into managable bits.

What do you think? Keep lunch as it is, or use it strategically to break up the day?

Whatever you do, let us know what you'll be having for at least one of your lunches.

First lunch = 10:12 AM

Ham, egg, & swiss on a toasted anything bagel and a side of bacon.

Second lunch = 3:30, I'm thinking of a lite sandwich from some place close by.

well, mikey, as many of the OWFLers know, i often favor 2 lunches in one day. in fact, i typically eat breakfast at my desk around 9am then hit the first half of my lunch at around noon. by the time 2pm/3pm rolls around, i'm ready for the second half of my lunch.

i don't do this to break up the day necessarily. i do it b/c i'm hungry every 3 hours and tend to over eat. therefore, it's my attempt at portion control and not to blow up into a giant fat kitty.

today i brought makings for ham and swiss...but i may run and get baja fresh steak burrito instead. i have been a hungry mungry lately due feminine hormones.

I'm still recovering from a redeye flight back to DC from the Bay area, (where I partook in some rather fine lunchiong) so I have no idea which way is up, let alone if it is time for a late breakfast, an early dinner or a late night lunch.

Trying to keep my eyes open and head into work for the afternoon.
Not sure what I'll east yet.

In my first actual 9-5 job, I would always wait until at least 1pm for lunch, then I knew that the day was halfway over, and when I came back there would be less then half a day left. But the breaking it up idea seems like a good one too.

I guess I rarely take a full hour with lunch as it is, so I should work in some other scenarios. perhaps start with an early lunch of something like a salad, then roll later with something a bit heavier. I find that i'm usually really hungry by 5pm, so eating twice and later would be beneficial.

man, i'm starving. i, too, love the idea of 2 lunches. i also love the idea of a siesta. i wish i were spanish, except that i don't speak the language. ah well. i guess i could eat lunches, but i think i would be forced to eat them both at my desk, b/c people would talk to me about eating lunch at bizarre hours when there's work to do. but, dammit, if people can take 2 15 min. smoke breaks, i ought to be allowed 1 extra 1/2 hour lunch! gr.

went to the museum of american history yesterday to check it out before it closes for 2 years. was very excited to see the lunchbox exhibit, and even more excited that i had my mom's camera so i could share them with my fellow owflers. but it looks like they already shut down that exhibit. damn you, smithsonian!!

lunch today will not be a brown bag lunch like i had planned & then did not execute, due to getting up really late. but i'm also feeling poor, so i don't know. and also fat, and around here, those 2 lunches work at cross-purposes. i will probably go the expensive & (less) fattening route & get a salad. but not QUIZNO'S SALAD today. probably a Listrani's, either CA Cobb or mediterranean chicken. Mm, yeah, that's it. the med chicken has eggplant. Yum. and it comes with foccacia (sp?), so it's not really healthy at all. Moo!

is it just me or have we had a lot of 'comments deleted' lately? is this just blogger fucking up & posting comments twice or what?

Lately, my work habits tend to revolve around 15-minute breaks every hour or so. It keeps the day flowing along pleasantly without getting anything "done" in the course of your average workday.

In that vein, I'm a huge conceptual supporter of the two-lunch plan. Alas, I also have a tendency to overeat, and I doubt I would do a satisfactory job of making it two smaller lunches, in which case, I would have to go out and get myself a fat-finger keyboard in order to continue bringing you my sparkling wit via blog.

For lunch today? Excellent question. I ducked out of mikey's morning breakfast sammie, so I might go big for lunch.

PS - Shout out to uni. I got to talk to her briefly while she was standing on her usual street corner this morning, and it got my day off on the good foot.

lt: Did they close the cafeteria already? The lunchbox exhibit was in the cafeteria on the bottom level. It's one of those nontraditional exhibits that are hard to find unless you're not looking for it. I only ask because I've spent a grand total of about one month of my life in that museum with 200 middle school kids. I suppose I should swing by to say goodbye, but it really is a bit painful to walk in there when I'm not getting paid for it.

Incidentally, I've lunched there far too many times, and almost every time resulted in me making emergency bathroom stops at the Lincoln Memorial.

I get a late breakfast and a late lunch. Both could be considered lunch.

I'm feeling peckish today. That doesn't mean I'm not going running outside, but it does mean I'm eating a full breakfast taco and going to get a helluva sandwich for lunch.

This one is for you Joe, I'm getting something from your recipes.

Are you shitting me?? It's in the cafeteria?? Dammit! We didn't go in there, b/c I never thought it would be there! Argh!! And in fact, I decided maybe it was up these stairs, b/c on the tiny map it had "Lunchbox Exhibit" right next to a diagram of stairs with an arrow pointing up!! Dammit!!!! Hm, maybe I'll make a quick stop tomorrow night on my way to Sushi Taro dinner. Any DCers want to join me & Bonbon there around 7?

I am strongly against this proposal because I think it's unnatural and unnecessary. It could also be because I am a sweatshop owner and only allow my overworked laborers one ten minute break per twelve hour shift, but I doubt it.

By the way Liz, yes, Blogger is acting really strangely for me and posting things multiple times.

lt: I was afraid that was the case. There are some glass display cases on your right as you walk in to the Main Street Cafe (where the trays are on your left), and the lunchbox exhibit is in those cases.

(Does it make it any better that I am embarrassed by how well I know that museum?)

Incidentally, the mac and cheese in the Main Street Cafe always looks good and is always both disappointing and intestinally disruptive. The chopped pork always looks good and is never disappointing until its intestinal disruption kicks in. Which is about 75 minutes after ingestion.

And, lt, in an effort to avoid one more NMAH-related annoyance, they close at 630PM these days. I would hate for you to show up and find it closed. It would be sad for it to burn down just before renovations.

two lunches: thinking small.
thinking big: an eight hour lunch daily that you take a half hour work break for.
Lo siento, today is a bad day at work.
For lunch i will be eating my coworkers' brains.

Yeah...Earthquake caught me...I was on the street corner again...holding up a sign that says "Check out My Ass....Cake" *sigh*.

I pretty much break my day up as well. I never take an hour for lunch, 30 minutes at the most. I do usually take one or two other smoke breaks during the day so I figure it evens out. Usually I do breakfast around 9, snack around 11:30, lunch around 2 and sometimes another snack around 4ish. Maybe I should start shooting up with the 'roids so I can go for twelve hours like MD.

SEND ME RECIPES PLEASE!! (You can send me more than one, I'll try and use as many as I can).

You have given me much good info, EQ. I will try to plan accordingly, as I would also hate to get there after closing. And WTF? It's still tourist season, right? Argh. Don't be embarrassed! I'm embarrassed by how little I know the museums. I mean, they're free for god sake.

Lunch is Med Chick salad with olives, feta, chicken, eggplants and too many capers. Yum.

I have decided to go with 3 breaks today. First was my 10:00 late breakfast. I just got back from my 12:50 stroll to the bank and book store. I figure I'll grab a bite around 3:00. I may even go back to work after that one depending on how much stuff I cna get done.

I wound up at Chick-Fil-A for lunch today. I don't know how many CFA scholars we have out there, but in the last year or so they started offering cheese, lettuce, and tomato on their standard chicken sandwich. This was the first departure from their original profile (bun, fried boneless chicken breast, pickles) in about 50 years. The reason for the addition was their recent expansion in to Orange County, California. Their straightforward sandwich didn't play well on the West Coast, so they spiced it up with some options.

At first, I resented the idea of California fucking up yet another pillar in my life, but I loves me some cheese on my Chick-Fil-A sandwich.

Today, however, I learned that they have gone one step further and added a CHOICE of cheeses: American or provolone! Holy crap! I almost froze up at the register. I recovered in time, however, and lunch went smoothly from there on.

I don't have time to properly scold Miso re CFA, or launch into my ode to that chain's wonderfulness (the waffle fries! The lemonade! The pickles! The Jesus! oh, wait - cut that last one).

I take breaks when I feel like it, for as long as I'm able. Lest that sound like I slack, let me elaborate. I'm also usually at the office for 10 hours a day, so if I want to break, it's made up for. Truth be told though, most days, I don't ever go outside, except for lunch, which is purchased quickly on my block and consumed at my desk. BUT if I felt like breaking, I would do so.

Damn. Third lil lunch was co-opted by doing work. Travesty.

sunshine, fuck that bullshit. tell 'em to take this job & shove it. oh wait . . . .

yawn! i have just been trying to train the new guy on our internal software. however, i had to go a step further & try to learn him on the background of what the internal software does & what it relies on. (i'm not busting on him - i didn't know jack about this before i started working here either) it just took a long time & i have two more of these training sessions in the next 2 weeks and every time i do one, i realize that wow, i would have made a crappy teacher. agh!!! parents and children of america, celebrate!

Blasphemy! Pickles belong on EVERYTHING. But I agree with you on the 7 days thing, especially since it seems like I'm only ever in the vicinity of a CFA on Sundays.

It occurs to me, that since the advent of this little blog, I consider all meals "lunch." Like, right now, I'm eating the greek salad that I brought to work, for my third lunch today. Oh, OWFL, how you've changed me!!
