Just a few quick updates/notices:
The new schedule is up here.
We’ve had a few “I forgot”s and late posts over the last month. It’s cool if you can’t do your day, just let someone know. And, it seems that ThePeople want to start talking about lunch before McDonald’s even stops selling brekky, but as a compromise, if we could have something up by
… is a go. This is going to be a frightening event, just in its scope. PeeP and Dipso have both expressed interest in co-chairing this thing, with Dipso in charge of “activities” and PeeP in charge of… well, I don’t know, other stuff. If one of you can toss a “Conference Post” up, that’d be cool. People probably want to discuss all things Chi, and know what’s on the agenda. (and, uh, there better be an agenda, and it better be stuck to) By my feeble count, the following are descending upon the Chicagoans and have tickets bought: HT, LT, Wookie, Uni, Mr. Uni, Jo, Missus Jo, and Miu, with a few other “maybes” and “we’ll sees.” Also, for those of you who have not yet received your DC conference t-shirt, let’s try to get squared up with Jo.
OWFL Turns 1!
On August 9, this joint turns 1 year old. We’ve got something special in mind for the post, but you should all be thinking about what you’re going to have for lunch on this, holiest of all holies. I also encourage you to join OWFLers in your city for your lunchtime revelry on this day. DC, inspired by a conversation with Jo, I suggest we have lunch here. I’ll send around an email later today to gauge interest, since we’ll want to make a reservation.
So let’s talk about updates in YOUR life today… any developments you’d like to share with your friends at OWFL? Or, do you have anything you’d like to raise about OWFL? Let’s use today to get our little house in order and catch up with one another. Oh, and obviously discuss what we’re eating.
(Me? I tried to start Weight Watchers yesterday (though, I bought the cutest bikini in Hawaii and it really doesn’t look that bad – and I NEVER say such things – but as always, it could look better) but Wookie and I and Friend of Wookie (FoW) went to Radius and ate too much pizza, but it’s recoverable. So now I’m trying to understand this whole points thing, and all I can say is that no wonder so many dumb people are fat, because it’s taken me several hours to even kind of get the gist of how the fuck to calculate this shit.)

Great post Madame Prez.
Tomorrow I will be talking more about the OWFL birthday and asking for some help from everyone.
Three personal updates I can think of...
1) I have recently rediscovered the power of credit cards and I am going through all the "new credit card" phases at an accelerated pace. My goal is to reach the acceptance phase that credit cards are evil by this weekend.
2) A temporary summer change to my weekly working schedule now has me driving much more than usual and I am finally appreciating the ridiculous cost of gas. I hereby make a public apology to everyone (including the missus) whom I have ridiculed for buying foreign cars because they get better gas mileage. There are plenty of other reasons for me to ridicule you, but the gas mileage issue is one I will stay away from.
3) The aforementioned schedule change and extra driving has also reopened my eyes to the abundance of fast food places around. I actually stopped at a Popeye's last week to pick up a late dinner. I haven't done that in years. And I have been to Five Guys Burgers on the way home to pick up dinner 4 times in the last three weeks. Fast Food Nation indeed...
Salad for lunch today. Probably from Soho again
Well, I am wearing my fabulous new pumps & a really cool new necklace due to [Jo's afore-mentioned evil credit card] shopping spree. Oh, also new undies. Yes, I have a date tonight & it better end up well, especially given how the day at work is going.
Fuck. I think my Excel just froze up. Again. And it's a new computer. This thing is for shit. WTF?!?!? Argh.
Jo, foreign cars are the best. Especially cute little british convertibles. Gas prices are why I metro
For lunch: surprisingly, a tuna sandwich I managed to concoct. I had more stuff in the fridge than I thought so instead of just tuna salad (with mayo and wasabi mustard! I'm v. excited to see how this turns out) on bread I also have tomatoes & onion slices! Hooray for me! Also another peach b/c they are rapidly heading towards Rottenville. I need to save room. I'm having sushi on my date & I know that nothing impresses a guy more than a girl who can really pack it in & suck it down. Food, that is.
Oh, man, I had totally forgotten the intro to Electric Company! That was awesome. Peep - never change out of your shorts into a pantsuit. We like seeing your legs.
Thanks, miu! Sorry about the job hunt & broken toy & pissy rug . . . .
Ha ha - Crank!
Umm...just to clarify, I've volunteer to be in charge of "gaming." This means that I will have at least one deck of cards on me at all times, baggo in the trunk of my car, and will try to get us to a bar with a pool table at some point. Anything else would be gravy. E.g., if we are collectively sober enough for any period of time, I may try to organize some teams for competition, if there's interest.
I believe Peep is the (self-proclaimed) "chairman."
PeeP - You need to warn people... some of us aren't allowed to watch the Electric Company. Sheesh.
Lunch was soup. It was wonderful. And hot. People at ABP looked at me like I was nuts.
I'm going to Pasta Mia tonight so lunch will be light because I fully intend to gorge myself on wine, pasta and proscuitto with melon. I brought a plethera of quick edibles today to choose from: cottage cheese/fruit cup, some kashi meal bar, a meal shake, tuna salad, a can of V8, cereal, milk and some blueberries. I worked out this morning so I think I was really hungry as I grabbed some quick eats to take to work. It's like going to the grocery store hungry, never a good idea!
I think I may drink the V8 soon then follow it up with the cottage cheese and kashi bar and eat the blueberries as a late afternoon snack.
nah, you just need a new toy.
uh, the toy comment was meant for miu.
This might not mean much to anyone else except Josephus, but there’s a rumor that the Gourmet Pantry might be relocating to the space on the first floor of my building left open by Osco’s closing. That would be a MAJOR development in dipso’s lunch world.
Prosciutto with melon -- with a nice gewurztraminer -- I ain't no wine geek, but that is a favorite paring of mine.
Salad again today. For some reason I feel I should drop 5 lbs. for every salad I eat, but it doesn't seem to work that way. Maybe the excessive beer consumption has something to do with...ahh, never mind.
THere was a very dramatic turn of events related to my job today that has made things more interesting around here. My old job had tons of drama, but the current one has almost none, so its pretty cool to get that taste again.
I have a volleyball game on the mall this afternoon, and the heat index is about 110 degrees. I can't wait!!
So, went to Jason's Deli today. I got the "Meat stacked in the middle so it looks like it has lots of meat" Sandwich. Fresh fruit and a cookie. Speaking of Electric Company, there was one where the cookie monster was a guest. I'd love to see that one again.
I have started picking up the old Muppet Show episodes recently. I love them. They are better now as an adult.
Life update:
1. Got the new job. I will be traveling again all over the world soon.
2. Ro is starting school again and will be psychotic again (law school)
3. Been trying to drink more water recently as my workouts have increased. I have picked a Marathon for October time and want to be in some sort of shape.
Thats it, thats all.
And unfortunately I won't be making the OWFL Conference, something about a wife and kids...can't quite remember.
But as for the OWFL Lunchmas, that sounds very interesting
GP on the first floor of the Babysitter building?!!!
Congats in advance!
I will do a count of leftover (un paid for) shirts tonight.
One is wookie's and frankly I can't remember whose the others are at this point.
Of course there is always the possiblility of creating a NEW OWFL Anniversary shirt...
The buzz around here is that they're remaking "Adventures," no word on whether the building will be reprising its role.
PB's Italian - heavy mayo, heavy giard, w/ macaroni salad.
Jada and I have a shirt idea for the girls that we came up with in Chicago a few months back. We can discuss it off blog, via email if anyone's interested.
I have to admit, I'm digging "Lunchmas"
Leftover Chinese food. Now I must go to the pool.
Yay Lunchmas! I move we make it the official blogiday of OWFL. We should all take it off as part of our religion. Hmmm. I might seriously take off that whole afternoon, so I can drink vino at lunch & then go straight to BB. Who's with me?!
aye
DCers - my "little" (read: 27) "Godcousin" (read: Godparent's son) is crashing at my place tomorrow. Is anyone up for grabbing a few beers?
Yes. Yes, I am.
Ha ha - I still call my younger brother my little brother, even though he's 26. Apparently it drives him nuts. Go figure!
My 22 yr old sister is still my "baby" sister.
If it bothers her she has enough sense not to tell me.
Gawddamnit.
Do you still do the 'coochie-coo' thing with her? B/c I think that's the big problem my brother has.
"Coochie Coo" with your "little" (now adult) sister? Dude, this isn't an incest forum.
my lord, ht, get your mind out of the gutter.
i'm pissed. i think i might never be having sex again.
Oh my god, Peep, that's fucking hysterical. Even in my bitter & pissed off fog I can barely keep from snorting out loud at that story!
LT--Does he know about the new underwear? Cause if he does and he still wants to meet up with his "poker buddies," your plans this evening aren't so much a date as dinner w/ your fabulous gay pal. Which is also fun, but really requires new shoes rather than new underwear.
Ha! I have the new shoes, too . . . .
No, I haven't told him about the new underwear. But I've decided what I might be more pissed about is that he's put me in the position of like his mother or wife or girlfriend or something, b/c he basically me asked for permission. WTF? So now I get to be the bad guy & say 'no, don't hang out with your poker buddies'?? Or say 'ok, have fun' & then be pissed off all night? It doesn't matter. I'm having a shitty day all the way around & I'm not even in the mood to see him. If he emails back before I leave I might tell him as much. Fucking men!
I would take metro if it had monkeys.
LOL..."There are too many monkeys"...hopefully in pants.
"Scowling at passengers"! Those are some bad seeds, indeed.
Thanks for the hot tip, Eque. I don't know, though. I've had a shitty shitty day all the way around & I have a huge knot in my back & I just don't have the energy. Why is dating so much like warfare?? Fuck. I'm waving the white flag.
Just for that, I'm going to get 3 orders of uni & 2 of monkfish liver. What else is really expensive at a sushi restaurant?
3 orders of unicorn?
Ah, that's better, E-que!
uni = sea urchin. Unicorn doesn't come from the sea, silly!
late posting...busy day. had two lunches. nothing new about that.
here's my top ten discoveries as of late:
1) saving money by not eating out as much at lunch makes a difference in one's budget...go figure
2) my cat has an evil bizarro twin that lives in nyc
3) the power of "positive" thinking when it comes to the office actually works
4) IRRIGATE THE EYES wasn't something that everyone else heard growing up
5) you gain 6 lbs or so during your period
6) never wear track pants to the gym
7) half of all my dress shoes are in a backpack underneath my desk
8) OWFL turns one next week!
9) HT and i are opposites (shocking)
10) not having internet at home really blows
chibi has said she's interested in the design of the lunchmas shirt. i'd also like to see the potential images.
jo, i will have money for you soon...perhaps in cash since you never cash checks. and delivery may come at the 1 year anniversary lunch.
