Where can one get a good broth?

I was very very very very very very bad last night. (Each “very” representing an irish whiskey shot – complemented by whatever amount of miller high life was appropriate for the situation – I have no idea.) I do know that there was a japanese novel and a guitar on my couch when I woke up this morning -- I don't play guitar and...READING?!?! I know that I got out of bed at 8:12 and was at my desk at 8:44 with pants on. I know that I pumped enough analgesics into my system to numb a beluga.

What I do not know, and am hoping someone can help me with, is what in the wide wide world of sports I am going to have for lunch.

The thought of food makes me a little queezy right now, yet I am starving and I anticipate that the hunger will increase exponentially over the next several time things. Oh, I ate nothing last night.

Dipso, Dipso, Dipso...

I suggest, if you are serious, you should go downstairs to the store in your lobby and purchase a nice clear chicken broth. Warm it in the micro and drink it like tea over the next 45 minutes. By 1:00 you will be back to 50% strength and you should invest in a bland sanwich, maybe turkey and swiss on wheat.
The alternative to getting broth is to find yourself some fresh fruit. Buy one of those tinhgs with sliced honeydew and canteloupe. Eat on that slowly all morning and then depending on how you feelgo with the bland sandwich lunch.

By the way, I am thinking about a visit to ABP today. Any suggestions out there?

blech.

Anyone else?

Thanks, though, Jo. You're probably right. It's just depressing. I honestly am close to tears. If I saw Field of Dreams right now when Moonlight Graham steps off the field to save the kid, I could fill buckets with from my weeping. That is one of my favorite parts of being hungover ("one of"?). I love crying, and tangents.

Have a cup of decaf tea - something herbal, maybe a mint or something.

Then French Fries. Fat ones, not skinny ones. Maybe a bland turkey sandwich too.

Jo - I really like the turkey cobb wrap at abp, as well as the turkey with snow peas and jalopeno mayo. The Steak Gorgonzola is another winner.

I must say that one of my favorite hangover side effects is the ability to make snap judgments about calling in sick to work. I also find that I am able to watch lots of horrible television and "get it" while hungover. Shows like "Starting Over" "Touched By an Angel" and "Judge Joe Brown" all start to make sense. Plus I can watch any soap opera hungover and immediately grasp what's going on, regardless if I have ever seen it before or even know what the title is.

We need to have a topic about our favorite hangover foods.

If I am really, truly, hungover, I don't go to work. (except for when I accidentally got utterly flamboozled the night before I started this job, and threw up before coming in, and then again in the men's room of the abp, with my new coworkers, and then one more time later in the afternoon in the office bathroom - but I managed to keep all that a secret)

I take a lot of not-available-in-this-country over-the-counter pills, pass out for awhile, watch bad tv, then ease into a giant bowl of pasta.

Be careful with the mayo - but I look at it like this, if I feel myself craving it, it's b/c my body wants it, so it will probably be okay. There are times when the only thing I wanted while hungover was pounds and pounds of cheese. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this, but I was totally fine b/c I listened to my body.

I’m such a chump. I come to work unless my eyes are bleeding. I have over 50 sick days ready to be taken, alls I needs is decent disease so I can cash in.

I’ve had two cups of coffee—actually I’ve poured two cups of coffee and taken one sip of each—and that’s it. The cups of cold coffee are accumulating on my desk. I’ve used both my number one and number two cups today. Number one is the black Asociacion de Ex Alumnos Universidad de Puerto Rico. Number two, if someone beats me to number one, is the white Las Vegas “John” with dice showing “seven.” People pretty much lay-off the Asociacion de Ex Alumnos Universidad de Puerto Rico cup now, though, after I’ve scolded them repeatedly for using my “number 1,” so I haven’t seen “John” in a while. I may actually get to ol’ number three—clear glass “Santa Bear.” I wonder if that’s even still around. At home, number one is the x-mas-themed cardinals on a twig of holly cup. Number two is the titmice. Number three, I don’t know…I’ll have to think about that.

Nothing sounds good, except crying. I think I’ll cry for lunch. I wonder if the radio station would play “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Karen Carpenter if I requested it.

Changed my mind. Went to the Atrium Cafe and got a chicken salad BLT on a jalapeno tortilla wrap. Mama Zuma's Revenge Chips and a V-8.

I'll represent for ABP today with the old school classic, Turkey Cobb Wrap. I also decided some soup was in order and went with Chicken Noodle. But, here was the odd thing: all the other soups were out, at the soup bar, but the chicken noodle I had to get from behind the sandwich counter. I'm wondering if this is because people like me take all the good stuff - noodles and chicken - and leave all the crap - broth - behind?

Funny. I just got chicken noodle from the gourmet pantry and I asked for mostly broth. I feel that I am providing balance for the chicken soup universe.

I had a pre-lunch dental appointment, so ol' bleeding gums murphy here was in the mood for something soft. So I hit the gourmet salad bar thing next to the Teamsters. Lots of good chinese food, california rolls, some veggies. Quite good, though I think I have an MSG headache
