Any idea where they're going to put this in DC? I haven't heard about it. Jo?

By this point, y'all know what I'm having for lunch - though, today I'm switching it up with the addition of some gum - Citrusmint Orbit, to be exact.

What's everyone else having? Is it too early to decide? When do you normally decide what you're having?

The Doctor said...

I tend to "decide" very early. Sometimes as soon as I open my eyes in the morning, and perhaps in my dreams. However, I am really frustrating myself with all these last minute audibles. I really want that damn carnitas burrito, but I can't seem to put myself in the right frame of mind for it. I need some alka seltzer and a nap. Friday lunch is looking gloomy.

Okay, after much searching of the internets, it's in the brand-spanking new Ntl Association of Realtors Bldg. over near the Hyatt Cap Hill, in my neck o' the woods. Seems wrong though. Jo, we're going to have to check this out.

dipso - what was your take on Hot Doug's? I got Josephus' off-blog, late yesterday, and I'm interested in what you've got to say.

I've also welcomed my Hot Doug's source to join us in our lunch related reverie.

You still haven't gotten the burrito? What's holding you back?

Cheezborgers in DC?

NO REPUBLICANS ALLOWED.

HaterTot said...

Shut it, Josephus. The article said they're welcoming both sides of the aisle (and presumably those who rabidly straddle it).

Josephus, stop trying to be dirty and tell us what you're having for lunch today.

I think, given my druthers, I'd have an open faced hot turkey sandwich with fries, and gravy over the whole thing, with a side of slaw. (oil and vinegar, not that mayo kind)

It's a perfect fall day in our Nation's Capital today; I even wore a jacket to work this morning. The perfect day for a gravy-licious lunch. Or fasting. Whatever.

The Doctor said...

God, I love autumn. A jacket you say! I can't wait for that. I've been quite cold walking to and from the train the last couple of days, but I've been enjoying it.

I can't wait for my next trip to Hot Dougs. My veal sausage was fantastic, and Josephus' gator and pork selections made me jealous. They put a lot of care into their product and it pays off.

I also tried a traditional "Chicago-style." Oddly, perhaps ironically, I wasn't so impressed with it. It may be because they included grilled onions instead of raw. I believe that contradicts the chicago style manual. It really threw the whole thing off. Also, the pickle was too big, the celery salt was too liberally applied, and I think there was only one hot pepper.

I found, and I think Josephus would agree, that the meal was surprisingly filling. Jo had to ditch the fries.

The people who live within walking distance of that place have themselves a gem. I'll be hopping off the highway periodically to check the place out.

I didn't even know the cheezborgers skit was based on a real place. Sounds good to me.

Have you guys tried the burger place in DC, called "5 Brothers" or something like that? Crazy good. The fries come in a big sack that turns into a greasy mess before you even have a chance to eat it. Nice...

I had a salad for lunch, to make up for the Burger King croissant thing. I almost ordered their ginormous omelette sandwich. Then remembered that it exceeded the caloric intake for an entire day. Gotta love that place

500 New Jersey Avenue, N.W. maybe?

Good call, dipso. I'll take Jo and Watchdog to check it out, and we'll report back.

5 Guys Gurgers.

Delicious.

Although Hot Doug's is the place for the exotic sausages and witty banter, you folks visiting Chicago should hit Murphy's (not Murphy's Bleachers behind Wrigley Field) for the quintessential Chicago Hot Dog. It's on Belmont just west of Racine.

Mr. Murphy was actually hired by some Japanese businessmen to come over to Tokyo and open a hot dog stand there. I think they call it "MurphyDog" or something like that.

Their fries are pretty damn good too. Thicker than Hot Doug's. No duck fat though.

Thanks Brian, I will try to stop by Murphy's tomorrow on my way out of town.
Welcome to the lunch family.
