My group has a Work Lunch today...

...with our CEO. And hopefully it won't be all bad news. The boss has mixed it up a bit by foregoing his normal Thai spot for McCormick and Schmick's. Now what does one order at a work lunch with the CEO? Here's the menu, make some time and help a lunch-brother out.

And of course WFL?

I am extremely jealous right now. I would happily go to lunch with MY boss to have that menu in front of me.

Is it no holds barred?

I'd have to try their chowder, and then I think you've got to go to the specialties -- I drifted to both the scallops and the stew.

I'm famished.

Josephus said...

Dipso, it is indeed "no holds barred". In fact the boss might see an expensive order as "bold". Or he might not.

I'm hitting the salad bar, had about 5 slices of pizza last night, so some greens will balance it all out.

I feel your quandry here, Jo. What I always do is have a few options in mind, and then avoid ordering first. If possible, order after your CEO. A job or so ago, my President used to order for me. While sort of presumptious (and surely only happened because I was female and he fancied himself a food and wine connoisseur)
it was nice b/c it alleviated the stress of "what to order?" "how much should the entree be?" "appetizer or soup or salad or none of the above?"

If I were to recommend specific items, I'd probably go with the seafood cobb salad or maybe the etouffe, or possibly a crab cake sandwich, which actually sounds delicious right now.

I also always have a problem with deciding whether to have a drink with these kinds of lunches. I almost always take my cues from the boss. I find though, that most times, my bosses have enjoyed a cocktail at lunch.

Josephus said...

The bossman is a teetotaler so no cocktails will be ordered.

Josephus said...

CSR, I like that order. I usually don't do the stuffed fish, but damn if that doesn't sound appetizing. I'm a sucker for chowder too. No pie though.

My eating habits have not been up to their usual high standards. I feel like today should be healthy day, but they've got reubens on special downstairs today.

Health might wait until tomorrow.

Of course, I'm also kind of craving a burrito, and they've got those downstairs today, too. But I'd almost prefer Chipotle, if I'm going to do burrito.

I've got some thinking to do. Thoughts, friends?

Not sure what kind of burritos they dish out "downstairs", but Chipotle is the way to go for burritos. I like to get mine with all the salsas, plus cheese, cream, guacomole, and lettuce. If you do all that sometimes they can't even close the burrito, and that my friend is a beautiful sight.

Today's lunch for me likely will be a salad from the cafeteria salad bar. I likes mine with spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, turkey chunks, green peppers, black beans, sunflower seeds, croutons, and topped off with some bleu cheese dressing. Good and good for you.

The Doctor said...

Tomorrow is for healthy, Ethics.

I've been craving a reuben for a long time. If they do a decent job, I can't imagine passing on such a special. That being said, I'm probably going Chipotle today so I couldn't really fault you there. Maybe I'll try that damn Baja Fresh again. That place frustrates me like no other. I have their stupid menu right in front of me. Burrito dos manos, maybe that's the direction I need to go.

HaterTot said...

"Downstairs" is breadline, and they have a very basic burrito. They call it a Lexington Market burrito, and it's just beans, ground beef and cheese wrapped in a homemade tortilla.

You're right, Chipotle is better, but too far away for lunch. I think I'm all about the Reuben.

Anonymous said...

I love reubens too. Which is odd, cuz I don't like swiss cheese or rye bread. But throw that shit together and you're talking about one mean sandwich.

HaterTot said...

I went downstairs and right as I was about to say "Reuben," "I'll have a grilled cheese with tomatoes," came out. Now, this isn't just any grilled cheese, as I've mentioned before,it's got 5 Italian cheeses, heirloom tomatoes and fresh, baked this morning bread - but I don't know where that came from.

I'm not unsatisfied, however.

I had my "healthy" lunch, but as often is the case it leaves me feeling hungry. So I grabbed a bag of Roasted Garlic and Herb "Dirty" potato chips. Highly recommended.

Josephus said...

I had a bowl of seafood corn chowder, the Cajun crusted Yellowfin Tuna (sushi style) and a crazy sundae for dessert.

The Doctor said...

Ok, had my best experience at Baja Fresh to date. But I had to spend the better part of my morning pouring over the menu to figure out a plan. I went with the bean and cheese burrito with steak, “enchilado” style. My belly’s full, but here’s another peeve about the place – so is my office waste basket. Gosh, they sure do put a lot into their to go packaging. It seems almost as if they hate the environment and wish it destroyed. I wonder……..Hey lookie here!

So Josephus, how was the rest of the lunch? Anybody order particularly well/poorly? Any regrets?

try that again

Re: Lunch

I was surrounded by Seafood Cobb Salads. Which helped my cause I think. I certainly have learned from this experience to not worry about the price of the lunch, it's all about the creativity, and being able to explain the order. I shared my dessert with our EVP. That got me some points as well...

Wendy's owns Baja Fresh?

This brings us to an important issue: Should this blog refrain from political speech?

Josephus said...

It probably is a sin CSR, but I must admit I've only been there twice.

The Doctor said...

I've heard politics makes for bad dinner conversation, so it must be just perfect for lunch.

Yep, Jo, that's what my investigation turned up.

I wish this stoopid link would work. Let me try to break it up:

itical_action_committee.asp

Josephus said...

Wendy loves Republicans...

The Doctor said...

Who do you think will get more of the $8.24 I spent on my burrito: the illegal immigrants who made it or Pete Sessions?

HaterTot said...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with discussing politics - over food, libations, whatever. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour - you name it.

Yes - Wendy's owns Baja Fresh. Wendy's also owns Canadian favorite Tim Hortons. How is that worse than McDonald's owning Chipotle? Oh, wait - it's not. (I didn't eat at Chipotle at first b/c of this little fact) Good to see that Wendy's is fighting the good fight.

Josephus said...

WENDY'S USES HORSE MEAT!!!!

Actually they don't, (and I actually love Wendy's), but when I was a kid that was the big rumor. We thought that square patties could only come from Horses. Now we know they can only come from Jesusfreaks. That was a joke Jesus.

The Doctor said...

Chipotle sells booze.

I'd like to go in there after work some day and just get hammered.

HaterTot said...

Jo - you've got it all wrong. We ALL know Chik Fil A are the Jesus freaks of the fast food world. Those fuckers won't even open on Sunday. I overlook their misguided bible-thumpin though b/c I can't get enough of their tasty delights.

Josephus said...

I have NEVER understood Red America's love of Chik Fil A.

IT'S A DAMN CHICKEN PATTY!!!!

Josephus said...

White Castle and Crysatl "sliders" also have never done it for me.

Someone please explain their appeal.

HaterTot said...

Blasphemy! You hellbound heathen!!!

Let me take a moment to discuss the glory of Chik Fil A. It is not simply a chicken filet. It's the delicate seasoning, the special touches like the pickles, or the packet of Honey BBQ with the chargrilled sandwiches. The freakin' awesome waffle fries.

Washed down with a large Chik Fil A lemonade - this is a brilliant meal.

HaterTot said...

I've never eaten at White Castle or Crystal. Though, we used to get baskets of "Little T Death Bombs" at Little T Diners around Maryland, back in the day. Well, I don't think they were actually called "Death Bombs" but that's what they called them. That's the closest I've come to the mini burger though.

Josephus said...

It has PICKLES? That explains it...

Anonymous said...

White Castle is best consumed at 4am and in near black-out mode. They have holes stamped in the middle of the patty, they say its to speed the cooking or allow for "flavor flow-through" or some shit like that. The holes are likely there so the scrimp on the already paltry amount of meat. I suspect its not beef, or at least grade EEE, but like I said, those little grease bombs taste nice at 4am.

Josephus said...

There are several items in today's comments that are worthy of their own topics. But I would be remiss if I didn't congratulate the Blog on it's first 40 COMMENT DAY! Can we make 50?

The Doctor said...

Sure, here's a post. Some asshole in my office just asked me to write a summary of the FAIR legislation in the next half hour.

I've had white castle once. Never again. Never heard of crystal. Never been to a chick fil a -- my yankee ass goes no further south than Gary, Indiana.

HaterTot said...

While we're sort of on the topic of regional fast food - what do you people think of Sonic?

I am actually quite fond of Sonic, but I think it's a stretch to call it fast food. They would benefit by having another option - like a freakin' drive thru - to procure their tasty goods. Having said that, it's a superior product.

Wow, this could easily lead us down a road of In 'n Out, Whattaburger and Jack In the Box.

Anonymous said...

Have you ever seen that White Castle commercial where the guy carries a suitcase full of castle burgers onto an airplane, and ends up having to give them out to all the other passengers who are drooling over smell. Of course TSA regulations wouldn't allow for that now, a suitcase full of white castle could be classified as WMD's I think.

Josephus said...

In 'n Out is delicious.
My dream is to open one of my own.

Josephus said...

Whatever happened to Hot 'n Now? I was a big fan of the Olive burger Deluxe.

HaterTot said...

I don't know about White Castle burgers, but I know first hand that they'll let you take 3 Double Doubles from In 'n Out on the plane.

In 'n Out is magic. Really - God's gift to speedy cuisine. Beautiful. I can almost taste the Double Double and the fries, with the Neopolitan milkshake to wash it all down.

Josephus said...

Is the "Neopolitan" shake what I think it is?

Anonymous said...

I think Hot N' Now customers could only come up with two positives about the food, one being the food was "hot", n' the other being that you got it "now". After that the plus column got a bit lonely.

(Is this comment #50?)

HaterTot said...

Congrats, Jo! You are lucky number 50!

And yes my friend - yes it is. The Neopolitan is a non-menu item, but is the miraculous milk shake comprised of all three flavors, layered on top of each other. Oh, the joy.

We’ve experienced the recent southern migration of Culver’s from Bizzaro Michigan (a.k.a. Wisconsin). You see one of them on the road, you STOP! Butterburger and fried cheese curds. Holy cats!

Good work, everyone, on the 50-spotter! FYI - Recent projections suggest that the FAIR Act's compensation fund, in its present manifestation, is grossly underfunded to the tune of $160 - $580 BILLION dollars! Double holy cats!

Josephus said...

I am a huge fan of Culver's. Wisconsin did America a favor by creating the Butter Burger. What a great eating state.

HaterTot said...

Your talk of Culver's - of which I've never heard, though, I've never been to Wisconsi - made me think of how surprised I was to find a Fazzoli's in Hagerstown, MD.

When I stopped though, they were out of cheese ravioli, which I've found to be the only easily consummable-while-driving pasta product available.

HaterTot said...

What's a Butter Burger?

I hate, hate, hate Fazzolli's.
I've also only been there one time.
I think I just hate the idea of Fazzoli's.
