Baked Alaska Day??

So apparently it's Baked Alaska Day. Who knew? And who really wants ice cream in the middle of this cold snap, anyways? I guess that's the point of the baked part. There was some discussion recently about ruebens, which I've also never had. A friend is coming to meet me for lunch, so perhaps I will try to steer us to a deli of some sort & see if I can get a rueben (how is that spelled?). I would try to get a Baked Alaska, too, but a) that doesn't really seem like a lunch sort of thing, and b) where on earth would I even get one? Do they make them to go? On a cone? Huh. So wish me luck in my reuben hunt. And on that theme - eat something new! Even if you think "I've hated that since I was a child" b/c maybe you'll turn out to actually like it, b/c really, have you even tried it since you were a young 'un? Whether it's something new or an old favorite WFL?

You're right, LT. I should try something new for lunch.

So, today I will have an ounce of human compassion for lunch.

With a side of stir-fry chicken. From a frozen package.

I have no idea what Baked Alaska is. I thought it was fish.

For lunch I will try something new. Half smokes. The NEW part will be in what toppings I use. I am very excited.

Mmmm. Baked Alaska sounds pretty damn good. Maybe I'll try to make some this weekend. I thought it was a flambe thing. Man, I love the flambe thing!

LizTurtle said...

Ah, so what I really want is a Bombe Alaska.

Who is "nichole"?

LizTurtle said...

Is anyone else having problems getting onto the tv lunch blog?

the TV lunch blog is on blogger crack today. i haven't the faintest idea of how to fix it.

My friend makes delicious baked alaska. It's icecream and it's on fire - that is all you need to know! I highly recommend it!

I am working from home today b/c I am very tired from staying up late to watch the drama unfold in my hood, and then watch the subsequent news reports on it on News Channel 8. I also didn't sleep super well, so putting on proper clothes is inconceivable.

I have no idea WFL... part of me wants an egg sandwich... part of me wants poached eggs on toast... part of me wants broiled chicken... or maybe meatloaf... for now I might just snack on pate and cheese and crackers while I figure it out...

Someday I'm going to have a dinner party & it's going to be all those things that are passee now, but were very fashionable in the 50s & 60s. Including: baked alaska, beef wellington, ambrosia, and fondue (even though it's had a resurgence).

I hate blogger and so does that "Nichole" person. And neither of us knows what to have for lunch.

HaterTot said...

LT - I will make a jello mold!!! I think that sounds like a great theme for one of BonBon's supper club nights - if she ever got around to actually having one...

LizTurtle said...

I'm confused. Who said anything about a 'Nichole' person, Jo? Was a post deleted or something? And what are you apologizing for notwitty? (and it's LizTurtle - please don't break anonymity)

Jello mold! With banana slices floating inside?? Awesome! Yes, it would be a good theme! But since she talks & talks & talks about it, but hasn't done anything yet . . . . (yes, I'm hoping she'll read this!)

I vaguely recall a tuna casserole recipe the covered it in crushed potato chips. Had I brought that for lunch, I would fuck it up right quick.

By which I mean: eat it.

Is it weird that I always thought Baked Alaska was a potato?

I feel like this is at least the third time I have addressed the Ruben.

But to recap. Ruben's are covered in Jizm, that's the special sauce.

I just got out of a meeting. I've been put in charge of a project where the Institution is trying to expand their radio coverage (the unwise call them walkie talkies)so these sales guys came down. Within the first 5 minutes of the meetings they changed their proposal from a 40 GHz transmitter for $4000 to a 100 GHz model for $15,000. Does it even matter that if I really am in charge of this project, I'm going to reccomend neither and propose just upgrading the handheld units? Fucking sales guys. On a side note, I wouldn't put a temp in charge of reordering xerox paper, let alone an unbudgeted expense that could go up to $15,000.

However I am having a third interview at this place today or tomorrow, but as soon as they offer me that job, I'll be off this project. Who does a third interview?

SO for lunch, I think I'll be going to the Cafe' for a small soup & Sammie action. No Baked Alaska, and no Ruben for me, but perhaps I will try something new within my sammie making.

So, my new departure for lunch today was a Lean Cuisine. I finally managed to drag my ass to the grocery store on Sunday night, and I went with the express intent of purchasing lunch items. This consisted of sandwich fixins (ergo the corned beef and swiss on Monday), canned soup (ergo, the cans of soup on my desk), and some Lean Cuisines (ergo, the weird chicken stir fry "meal" I just finished).

I'm still hungry.

HaterTot said...

My sandwich, the contents of which I was forced to email all of you while blogger was acting up, was delicious.

Posted again here for your reference:

fried egg, turkey, swiss and green onions with mayo on multi grain, then tossed back in the egg pan to grill it up... the piece de resistance? I put ANOTHER fried egg on top so I could break the yolk over the sandwich. This is a meal to eat with a fork, but I highly recommend it...

Oh, and helio - 3 interviews is amateur hour; talk to me when you get up into 5+ day long sessions and have writing assignments out the wazoo.

That salad sounds goody, notwitty. As does your sammy, HT. Your Lean Cuisine doesn't sound so good, Quake. Just sayin'.

I didn't get a ruben with jizm. Or even a ruben without jizm. We wound up going to the Boulevard Woodgrill & I got the meatloaf with mac & cheese. Now, I realize this doesn't sound very exotic, but I never order meatloaf out and I also hardly ever have mac & cheese. So this was a new experience for me! I must find out who has a ruben & where . . . . but not tomorrow, b/c I will have leftover meatloaf (pork, veal, and beef) & mac & cheese (gruyere & fontina). Yum.

HaterTot said...

It was, NoTwitty!

I'm so glad I stayed home today. I did manage to go outside to see if my car was damaged or otherwise affected by the stand-off on my block last night, and (sorry, Jo) all's good with the car. I may take said, undamaged car to the gym in a bit. Or, I may nap.

Earthquake said...

Thanks, LT. I hadn't figured that out.

HaterTot said...

I did not, NW. I was actually blissfully unaware of anything happening until I got a text from LT asking if "this shit" was happening on my block. I peeked out my window to see cops everywhere, so I flipped on the local news and learned that some guy had earlier robbed/broke into some place, then hit someone on a bike (there was a chase I guess) then crashed his car on my block and barricaded himself in some nice folks' house. Apparently they got out though.

Anyhoo, there were cops everywhere and news crews and helicopters, and when I went to walk outside, I was told to get back in my house, b/c I guess the guy was randomly shooting.

I don't know exactly how the whole thing ended b/c even though I stayed up watching local news reports, they were pretty vague and I can't even find the story in the Post today.

my mom used to make some weird (but tasty) green salad...it was marshmallows, cool whip, pineapple, walnuts and pistachio pudding mix.

I had nothing new for lunch today...pizza...for the second time this week. Apparently when you have a lunch meeting here...it means you have pizza from the same place. Even if it is the same department having another meeting in the same week. We were supposed to have a thrid one tomorrow but it was cancelled thank god. If they gave me pizza for a third time I would've had to kill a panda.

Earthquake said...

Damn it.

I should have had panda pizza for lunch.

LizTurtle said...

Panda pizza. Mmmmm. That reminds me of a picture I saw in a sushi joint recently. It had a picture of 6 pieces of maki, untouched, on a plate. When you look closer you realize it's not salmon in there, but orange & white striped fish. Then you realize one of the pieces has a little fish face sticking out of the middle. Then you read the caption: "I found Nemo".

BAAAAAAAH HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!
