Missing Miso

Miso is slacking and I'm wondering if Peep is locked out of the apartment again in good ol' ROC. Hope not, but if he's not then...WTF?? :)

I have no topic for today, just want to get the ball rolling for any of you guys actually working this week. Today will be a hectic day, we are at the end of the year so we are flooded with last minute donations from all the rich folk who want to get a last minute tax deduction. And all I can think about right now is that I will be in desperate need of a drink post work. AND for the DC crew we only have a few short days before this fine city goes non-smoking. I feel the need to indulge in lots of cigarettes indoors while we can. Who's in??? Angles?

Of course don't forget...WFL????!!!!

smoking smoking smoking.
i love it.
i've been through three states now while they are banning it from bars.
everywhere i have been it's been a horrible idea.
Almost all the bartenders i know smoke and when they are working alone they can't get away from the bar for that blessed nicofix. Thus comes horrible drinks and snippy attitudes (and that is just from the perspective of a selfish barfly).
Speaking of barflies...
my favorite bars had an consistent stream of regulars that probably accounted for 1/4 of the bars business. these guys (and gals) supposedly had jobs but would somehow be in their stool from noon til ten pm every day. what did they do there? smoke, drink and talk... and i would even propose that it was in that order.. you take away smoking, the primary act that makes them feel comfortable in social situations and these people don't come back to the bar. it's horrible.
When i lived in NY and they banned smoking, three of my local bars closed because they could no longer support themselves... i've seen a marked drop in attendance in both philly and nnj after they enacted this law.
blah
one interesting fact: in NY after they passed this, it was a larger fine to be caught smoking a cigarette in a bar than it was to smoke a joint.

Lady A,
Both because of, and despite, the fact that I my least favorite opposing counsel EVER is trying to dump a bunch of work that he should do on my lap, I'd be up for some smoking and drinking (in that order) if other DC OWFLers are also in.
Coming back to work after a holiday blows.
On the plus side, someone reminded me today that all the federal cogs got the day off for Pres. Regan's funeral, so I've got my fingers crossed for an extended holiday next week!

Hmmmm . . . I'm going to see Dreamgirls tonight at the Uptown, so I'll be in the area . . . depending on which show I wind up seeing, I might swing by Angles. What time do you think you'll get there? And dammit, I left my pack of smokes at home. Argh.

I'm back at the grind today, but that's because no work = no pay, and I'm bout broke. Makes me feel like an ass for turning down that full time job I was offered last Thursday.

Lunch today is a damn fine pulled pork sammie from the Brookings cafe'. I almost walked out without the sauce. I am glad I went back for it. Yummy.

In theory, I'd like to go to Angles to enjoy the wall of back room smoke like in the olden days, but I have to swim & run today after work, then I have to put in some Boyfriend time with Lil' Miss Sunshine since she just got back into town... or rather, by that time she will have just gotten back. She's probably still in Tampa. I wonder if she saw ILL Mitch rap while she was down there.

mmm.. digestive bliss... General Tso Chicken, wonton soup and a dr. pepper for lunch. all of that for 5.50 and i get a wonderful bloated sleeping feeling in return...
that and a mouth watering for a smoke. but no.
i'm quitting.
my still hurt from last week so i'm going to make one of those infamous half-hearted attempts at quitting. So far i've had only one cigarette since tuesday.
go me.

I can meet up anytime after 4. And I can easily go home first then make it out later. HT should be en route to DC or just getting into DC so I'll see if she's up for something too.

HT is BACK!!!! And, headed to the gym, but can meet after that. I'll be done around 4:30 or 5, so if someone can text me a time and a place, I will be there with bells on, as they say.

Sigh . . . I probably won't be able to make it . . . I'm swamped here at work & will probably go straight for the theater. Argh. Stupid project. Why can't people get to know the software they're working in, instead of just doing the same damn thing year after year and then leaving the firm & leaving me to clean up their mess? Argh.

Turtle, Hire a temp with computer skills.

Ahem...

LizTurtle said...

Dammit, Sunshine! And here I'm almost done. Well, not almost. Eh.

Hey, why'd you turn down that phat job offer?

Heliocentric said...

the job was below me.

Funny since I'm currently a temp, but I am happy where I am right now, and I like working downtown, and I'm getting by, so why take a job that has shitty hours, low pay and only 2 weeks of vacation.

LizTurtle said...

Ah, so it was not such a phat offer.

Ugh, I wish I were at a stopping point here & could go have a coupla at Angles. Argh argh argh.
