Meal Deals

I turned 31 yesterday, and it was a food filled weekend.

On Friday, I went to HH@BB and our friendly server, Bob gave us great deals on drinks. He gave us the regular happy hour prices and he threw in a few free drinks. He also gave us some of the best mixed nuts I've ever gotten in my mouth. He had them imported from Lebenon.

Saturday I went to Tonic and they have a great wine deal. Order 2 entre's and you get a free bottle of wine.

On my birthday proper, Little Miss Sunshine took me out to brunch at a place called Georgia Browns. It was great. There was a fantastic buffet with Fruit, Freedom toast, potatoes, grits, bacon, sausage, slow roasted turkey, ham, roast beef, lil' egg benedicts, made to order omlets, desert table, chocolate fountain. Now that buffet was wonderful on its own, but the real deal is that you also get to order a full on meal and they gladly prepare it to go. I got the fried chicken, and it was the best I've ever had.

I bring this up because I want to ask you, the respected bloggers here at OWFL what are some good meal deals that you know about. Get 10 sandwiches, get a free one? Free delivery with order of over $12.00? Free toy with over priced burger, fries, and small coke? Nickle pitcher night? Bottomless breadsticks? Please tell us of the meal deals you know about and let us know what You'll be having for lunch today.

And Happy un-birthday to us all.

The meal deal I am most looking forward to is taking Little Miss Sunshine as my guest to the holiday party at this Institution that I am temping at today. Im hyped about the sushi rollers, the giant shrimp, the chocolate fountain and the beer and wine bar.

That's a pretty good deal. Not working at a place, temping there for 2 weeks, and getting to go to the holiday party... and bring a guest.

Happy birthday Sunshine! I feel like I talked all weekend about Georgia Brown's for some reason. I know I talked about it yesterday. Yes, I think that place might have the best brunch ever. I got my gumbo boxed up, so I don't know how it was fresh, but it was amazing the next day for lunch.

I have a 2-for-1 burrito coupon that's been burning a hole in my pocket for a few months. Those are always good. The Happy Meals with toys are the best after a night of drinking. Nothing like diminished brain capacity to help one truly appreciate a crappily built little toy that will break in about 2.5 seconds anyway. If I were less snotty about my italian food, I would love the endless pasta bowls (and salad! and breadsticks!) at Olive Garden. Aw, who am I kidding, I would love them anyways.

Sigh, it's (so far) another day of nothing to do. I think lunch might be at Earl's. It's a bit of a walk, but what do I care. I have nothing going on.

Holy crap sunshine!! I think we're having chips & beer on Friday afternoon for our 'holiday party'! And that's for full-time employees! WTF! Hm, do they need any math nerds there?

mmm, chocolate fountain sounds tasty.

i am feeling way crappy today. having a second job at a wine store has its downfalls...yesterday we had a 30+ staff wine tasting. you can imagine how my evening ended up. eesh.

as for meal deals, i think that the washington express paper has cosi coupons in it every now and then. so instead of a $10 sammie, you can get a $9. woo-friggin-who.

my tummy's grumbling. i was going to throw up an hour ago, and now i am just starving. what should i eat? suggestions are welcome.

and by 30+ i mean there were 30+ wines that we ended up tasting. dear lord, my liver is ANGRY.

A very merry un-birthday to you mikey!

Nice relaxing weekend in the Czar's houshold.
Partied it up Friday.
Lounged it up on the couch all day Saturday except for lunch at Five Guys.
Breakfast at the Parkway (Grubb Rd.) Deli on Sunday and then we lounged and ate some of the Missus' homemade Lentil soup all day. Flirted with idea of corhole of opted to watch the Skins lose on the couch instead.

On to meal deals...the 2 for 1 burgers at Angles are always a treat. When we order Chinese food from Yenching Palace we almost always end up getting free crab rangoon or fried rice.

What was the place in Adams Morgan with the $1 miller lites and $2 coronas that had the free buffet?

Lady A said...

CRUSH!

Josephus said...

I miss Crush.

Anonymous said...

Crush was the best, nothing like ordering 20 miller lites with a straight face.

Lots of chinese places here in Chinatown offer cheap lunches. Eat First! Restaurant I think has $3.99 and $4.99 options. Not bad.

LC will agree with me on this one...the burger deal at Toledo Lounge on Sundays. 1/2 price burgers (blue pig - burger with bleu cheese and bacon) and the beers are like $2 or something like that. AND the bonus is that you can get a mixture of fries AND onion rings on the side! HOLLA!

Heliocentric said...

Aww Yeah, Lady A Pie! That's the real deal. All I have to do it make it through a year of living and I get a free pie. I love it.

And a very merry unbirthday to you Josephus.

Yeah, Crush was great, But the buffet was not free, you could opt in for a fee, and the food wasn't good, not even a little bit. But the dollar bottles were fantastic. I remember more than once going up at 9:55 (the deal ended at 10:00) and handing the bar keep a $10 and saying give me 8 beers, then carrying them and stashing them on the window sill while we danced like mad.

Jo, don't think of it as the Skins losing, Think of it as an Eagles Victory.

Thanks for the heads up on the Cosi 'pons Lachoi. I love them little flat bread masterpieces, and 10% off is not too bad of a deal.

thank you LT and jo (off blog convo) on suggesting the egg sammie. i forgot the wonderful powers of sausage. so i got an egg, sausage, cheddar on tomato basil bread. taming that hunger grumble.

LizTurtle said...

yay! I helped! actually an egg sammie is sounding pretty good. maybe i'll just hit the bagel shop for one myself . . . .

Happy Un-Birthday Sunshine!
Wish I'd checked in b/f I went out to grab lunch. An egg/cheese sammy sounds mighty tasty. As it is, I'm pretty pleased with my chicken salad w/ spinach, tomato and onion on an everything bagel from the local bagelry. They also have a great food deal--if you answer the daily trivia question correctly, you get two free bagels. Sadly, I did not know the answer to today's question.
So, OWFLers, what's an autodidact?

LizTurtle said...

ooooh. isn't it some kind of punctuation?

LizTurtle said...

Wow. I was way off. Siiiiigh . . . I wish I were an autodidact.

happy post birthday sunshine, i celebrated by drinking gin, manishevitz, whiskey and pbr sequentially... it was all for you brother.

the only deal i ever seem to participate in are insanely low priced chinese takeout combos. a General Tso, fried rice and an eggroll for six bucks will last me for like three meals. that and mcdonalds monopoly. i love walking up to the counter witha free-fry game piece... i never seem to know about about those free frosty days or ben and jerry's complementary microscoop days.. arg..

for lunch i had a "chicken philly cheesesteak" from downstairs... for future reference: putting a variety of meat on a hoagie roll and sprinkly uncooked bellpeppers on it does not qualify it as a "* philly cheesesteak"

today is my last day of real work for over two weeks. i'm pretty amped.

Lunch was the fruit I didn't eat for breakfast. Which mellon is the green one? That's' what I ate most of.

I am now almost drooling as I work on the menus for tonight's Holiday party.

Not a lot of chatter out there today huh?

honeydew mikeyS.

tell us about the holiday menu...

My fav meal-deal is $5 mountain-o-nachos @ 6pm (after a couple of the $5 pitchers @ 5pm) at Pub Fiction on Smith in Mid-town in Houston.

As for my lunch today I will celebrate my return to routine with a super-huge chicken wrap from New York Deli in the mysterious Houston tunnels .. 'specially since it is colder than a witch's tit out there (50F isn't really cold until it is almost 80% humidity as well... its a wet cold).

Maybe I'll get an overly expensive hot-chocolate later from Starbuck's to offset my cheap-as-hell lunch.

LaChoi, grease is always the way to go. I got hammered before I got on the plane to TN ... I'm old as hell so it took me another day to recover... my cousin's new wife .. Dr. Jenny (ER surgeon) cooked the best banana pecan (pronounced PUh-Kahn) pancakes and pepper crusted cured ham in the world. God bless her for being able to cook and sew people back together with the same alacrity.

I've just gotten back today. It has been a long morning.

It's pronounced PEE-can.

Damn northerners.

I think lunch deals trick one into eating more than one should. But, that's just me.

Stumbling Santas in Richmond this weekend. Chipotle fajita burrito was my base (and only food) on Saturday, and I guess you could say dinner was Miller Lite and Jager. Sunday brunch was at the place with the best bloodies I've ever had, garnished with a shrimp, cucumber, and olives, glass rimmed w/ old bay. Yum.

Not sure what I'm eating today, but need to grab something before the gym.

LizTurtle said...

Mmmm . . . I resisted the siren smell of chinese & went with my original lunch idea of lachoi's hangover cure - bacon, egg, and cheese on a poppy seed bagel. It was yummy & over far too quickly. Sigh! Every now & then a poppy seed pops out of one of my back molars & I get to relive the experience in some small way . . . sigh!

Peep, I'm all about finding cheap deals. I can't afford to be frivolous with my money right now . . . . I go to Boston Market's or Quizno's website before I go there to print out a coupon. Oh yeah, I do.

LizTurtle said...

HT, article for you!

whenever someone expresses the sound for enjoying the flavor of a food (mmmm) i have a moment where i believe i am being beckened insistantly...

but i'm not

is there a name for the sound "mmmm" (and if there is, why cannot i think of it?)

achoo - sneeze
pbbtt - raspberry
burp - burp

okay.. now i am wondering if there are a lot more unnamed onimonipias out there

I wish I knew how to spell that noise Homer makes when he's got his tongue all sticking out of his mouth & he's drooling over some food product.

Unknown said...

second lunch: grilled veggie sandwich with arugala, assorted squash, roasted red peppers, and olive tapanade. that and split pea soup with noticeable bits of ham.

yum.

LizTurtle said...

I'm making that Homer-drooling noise right now b/c I just ordered king crab legs from Alaska for a Christmas present for myself . . . nobody is as good to me as I am . . . drooooooooooool.

Oh yeah! Everyone wants to be my friend now!

And a restaurant officially stole a blog idea, Miso, get your lawyers out.

A new restaurant in Chinatown's Gallery Place:

Miso Hungry

No reviews or word yet on what this place is about. But i'll look into it

LizTurtle said...

Hm. We should have a lunch outing there before we decide if we want to sue them or just get residuals.
