16 servings of cheap pilsner last night? Attracted to a 6” seafood sandwich you saw being ordered and need someone to talk to? Feel like something pasta-y, but not exactly? This is what terrorizes our nation’s workers every day. It is ever-present, in the back of our minds--riding on the train, up the elevator, in that meeting. But these are simply facets of the one great question. The answer to which must be provided before we can ever grasp contentment. What’s for lunch?

Sunshine, you need a burger. Or, since you're in the Dupont-y area, you could to Wrapworks and get the steak and mashed potato wrap (it has a name, but I don't remember what it is).
I'm hungry.
Hungrayyy!
Burger sounds good.
Wendy's?
I'm having more leftovers. Hurray! I have a little of everything & if I'm good, I'll have enough for 2 days. Stuffing, mashed taters, sweet potato casserole, turkey, cranberries & a huge glob of solidified gravy that should turn nice & soupy after it's microwaved . . . . mmmmm. That's it. I'm getting lunch now.
I went to wrap works with the bearded lady one time... never again. Other places that she ruined for me: Chi Cha Lounge, Rumba Cafe, Toledo Lounge.
Ima try out a place called California grill. Let me guess; they have shit with avacado and bean sprouts and granola on organic flat bread.
Yeah Peep, Still temping. I'm at the Brookings Institution for the rest of the year. I found out yesterday that this place was on Nixon's enemy's list, and that he authorized a break in in 1971 to steal political damaging reports. The guy behind the break in wanted to fire bomb the place and steal the documents while the firefighters worked to control the blaze. Good times.
HT, I'll see if they have a Cali burger or something. Thanks for the help yo.
Just heard from GG, and she apologizes. She forgot to post before she left for work, and when she got to work, their servers are down.
Carry on.
'Tis no problem GG.
I usually get impatient around 11:30 - 11:45 and will put up a place holder post where just about anything goes if there's nothing up yet. If the poster is just running late, or is in the central, mountain, or pacific time zone, I am more than willing to take my post down.
I'm off to lunch with Lady Sunshine. Avacado burger with bean sprouts... I mean organic garden burger with avacado and bean sprouts on organic flat bread might be in my future.
Damn hippies.
Oh man, those were good leftovers. I just hope I can stop myself eating the rest of them. Else there will be no lunch tomorrow. Gah!
I was especially hungry today because I missed breakfast cuz I was running late for a morning training thing.
But now i'm all trained up and fed, got a Panini from the lunch caf, roast chicken and that real mozzarella stuff. It was quite good, but I'm still hungry and feel I still owe my stomach breakfast.
I know lots of you OWFL'ers don't do breakfast, but I do, and I love it
I'm a big breakfast fan, but I've been skipping it lately b/c a) I could use skipping a couple of meals & b) it seems to wake my stomach up earlier for lunch. Although my stomach is awake & expanded all the time after all the food I shoved down my gullet this weekend.
I had something called a "Mexican Roll" today which surprisingly enough is sushi. i have no idea why it would be called that besides the fact it is slightly spicy... what about Tuna, avocado or wasabi make you think of mexico? okay.. maybe the avacado.
it was very tastey but of course as i left the hojo (yes, this sushi place was grafted on to the ass of a howard johnson) i smelled the smell of greasy griddle fried fresh burgers and damn. i realized that sushi should never be confused with a complete meal.
what to eat when you want to be bad but should be good? maybe a salad with a ton of bacon on it? maybe baby seal, cut very lean on a bed of rice?
Our servers are back! Thanks for covering Sunshine. Lunch today was a surprisingly yummy sandwhich from the work caf w/ tangerines, roast pork, and some sort of tangy dressing. My apologies, aganin, for the confusion and lateness. Back to work . . .
Speaking of stupid work schedules, I'm on my lunch break from an all-day training (Day 1 of 3, damn it!). Welcome to the wonderful world of process analysis and mapping. Someone please drive out to Northern Virginia and shoot me. Please.
Not sure what I get for lunch, but it's my favorite flavor: free.
But, at what cost?
(lt, guess what I listened to on the drive home last night.)
Greek Salad from Taverna. I think I'm going to get some hummus too. I'm starving. I really need to fit the gym in this afternoon, too. Suddenly today is becoming busier than I'd like...
Quick hi! Had a turkey sandwich, blueberry yogurt and a V8.
Saving myself for wingies.
My Wedy'd is rising up my throat as i write this...please be careful viewing at work...

"Wedy'd means "Wendy's" in Jo-holding back vomit- talk.
EQ, grrrrrrr. Come by my place Saturday night - I'll shoot you. Just like I do all thieves. Mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!
M, you need to eat sushi with me. I can make a full meal out of sushi. In fact, I can make a meal of it to the point where you're groaning & stuffed & have to undo your belt.
Greek salad is yummy. They were out of hummus (how does that happen?!) so the woman tried to sell me something that looked like hummus, but was made with cod roe. I could mash up salamanders and make it look like hummus, but that would not actually make it a viable substitute for hummus when it is hummus that I am after. Get my meaning? So no mashed up anything for me.
Dang Jo. I mean c'mon.
That line in the Pammy article was funny though.
'Borat was the least slutty thing Pam has done since she was like 12.'
HT--You really missed out. That cod roe stuff--Taramasalata (sp?)--from Taverna is what the gods must have eaten on Mt. Olympus. But it's probably best you didn't give in to her crafty sales pitch as you would have been disappointed despite its yumminess. While both are delicious, taramasalata is nothing like hummus--anyone who would claim otherwise is on crack.
Other things that look like hummus, but aren't hummus:
baba ganoush, frosting, salmon mousse, pile of mud.
This is my point, GG. I love the roe (though I've never had it in this particular way), but I was in the market for hummus.
It's Skittles and M&M's.
I love how the fine people at Taverna prevent one from turning salad into something unhealthy though, by giving you only the tiniest vial of dressing. I also only ate about a third of it, and I am stuffed. I suspect this will be lunch again tomorrow.
LT, should I bring a pile of mud to your party on Saturday and say, "But it looks just like hummus!"?
Only if you bring some twigs to eat it with.
ugh. it's quiet early. anyone have a second lunch yet? the downstairs cafeteria closed early for some reason... i would guess it's an issue with the NIH... so no second lunch for me.
i would like to live vicariously through you though.
That would a rather interesting dinner premis though.. Make a pretty elaborate meal where everything is made to look like some other food.
Examples: Beetloaf, mashed-whitefish (looks like mashed potatoes), sausage beans (green thin italian sausage), turnip muffins etc...
tofurkey!!
ooh, and bourbon disguised as iced tea.
My mom made this awesome dessert once - it looked like a pizza. It had chocolate/almond "pepperoni", white chocolate "cheese", and I guess strawberry "tomato sauce" on a cookie "crust". My mom is the coolest!
I remember reading something about the lead singer of Quiet Riot drinking straight out of a Jim Beam bottle during concerts. Turns out the "Jim Beam" was Snapple. Pussy! That's not heavy metal!
That sushi chocolate
umm, and quiet riot is Metal?
Hair at best, but Hard rock themed pop is a more apt description of Quiet Riot.
my point exactly.
I remember Jenny Bacon counting all the times they said "rock" in C'mon feel the noise... mmm...Bacon...
Wow, you'd be hammered by the end of the song if you made that a drinking game.
when i get home i drink for every time someone mentions a sandwich or their hate for rachael ray on the owlfblog
I hate 100 Rachael Ray sandwiches!
Good luck getting to work tomorrow M.
ooooo, how about a Rachel Ray sandwich, yummy!
51st State. 36 minutes.
Jo, you're going to be in the UP of Michigan within the hour?
Little known fact: The UP wanted to succed from Michigan and join the union as the 51st state. Calling themselves Superior
But everybody knows that they are Inferior.
Then they built the bridge, and the movemnt lost steam.
Have a good time Jo
Silly! Everyone knows the 51st state is Canada!
eh?
DAMN IT! What a shitty day to be stuck away from the blog.
lt: don't you worry your pretty little head. I'll be at your place on Saturday night. Wait. That's the night of the party, right? Shit. Those offers are never gilt with lust...
jo: thanks. If viewing the pic doesn't throw a flag, then viewing this entry with two iterations of "Britney's poontang" will.
m: A couple of weeks ago, I was working a program with ninth-graders out in Denver. The hotel we were at served iced tea with dinner, and they always used double old-fashioned glasses. I found that if I squinted my eyes just right and cleared my mind of everything, I could almost convince myself it was a bourbon on the rocks in front of me. That got me through until after bed check when I could indulge in the real thing.
Lunch turned out to be freebies from Corner Bakery. I went with chicken/turkey sandwich that is supposed to have mozzarella on it (but didn't, the fuckers) and another half of the roast beef on some sort of basil ciabatta. Also, a fistful of their chicken/gorgonzola/raisin/spinach/lettuce salad with a drizzle of some sort of viniagrette and a sugar cookie.
Tasty. And free.
I just checked my calander and there was a humorous typo on it.
Jan - 23
Pose on OWFL
So there's something for all y'all to look forward to. Ima pose.
Not too bad as humorous typos go. There's not a lot of milage there anywise.
