I just can’t do breakfast. I’ve tried to implement an oatmeal or cereal regimen time and time again, but it never sticks. I eat two meals a day. Lunch and dinner. Actually, I don’t even really eat dinner anymore. I just kind of graze around my apartment from 7 – 11. Last night I chopped up half a cantaloupe around 7:00 and ate a few pieces. Then I uncorked a bottle of wine around 8:00 and opened a pack of proscuitto. For the next couple hours I just walked into the kitchen periodically and popped a piece of melon and a piece of proscuitto in my mouth and went back and sat on the couch and chewed at the TV while alternating between baseball and season 2 of the Sopranos. Then I had some bread and fell asleep.
(It just started snowing here in chi-digs.)
Tonight I have the other half of melon and the rest of the proscuitto, so it will be pretty much a repeat of last night, except throw in the Office and the Battle Star Galactica miniseries.
So, yeah, lunch is really the only formal meal I have each day. So it’s pretty fucking important. And today, I’m thinking burrito.

Ahem...
Well then I guess we can talk about TV today.
I highly reccomend the aforementioned Battlestar Galactica to everyone. It is a much much different show from the one you remember as a kid.
What shows are folks watching in this infant tv season?
And I never eat breakfast during the work week.
Oh comeon dipso ... looks like you regular snack on those sugary F Bombs alot too.
I do breakfast when I can. Sometimes it just isn't in the cards ... however I bring oatmeal every morning (thank you Sam's club for the ultra mega size of Quaker flavor packets) and I have the occasional slim fast or breakfast burrito.
I cook ... I cook well. Who am I kidding? I'm a damn good cook. Vegetarian Shepard's pie that would make a carnivore beg for more, peppercorn seared tuna, honey almond crusted salmon fillet, aged black and blue buttery steaks, stir fried succotash, whipped potatoes, pine nuts and garlic aparagus, vegetarian (with "chicken") calzones .. etc etc
So we have dinner prepared by my at our house.
I have a Pescatarian at home .. otherwise my honey baked short-ribs and lamb roll (thanks mom) would come out of hiding and stand proud.
Our crotch coordinator needs a reality change. Why don't you go down and try to find a hot cashew and know that if you have a job and get paid that is the end and beginning. Don't like to work until you are working for yourself.
Sage lesson brought you by a recent convert (I'm a 12 stepper for work addiction).
Oh and I feel that lunch is still the most important but its also the most adventurous meal of the day .. which is a topic for my next posting.
Note: pictures of the houston tunnels and underground up soon.
Cheers!
I'm watching the BSG ... I feel weird wanting to bang my childhood hero Starbuck.
When they ask me if I want black o peento, I'm saying "buck"!
I watched two eps of studio 60 -- wow, that sucks. It even ruined Tina Fey's show for me -- I couldn't watch last night, and I like Tina (well, at least I like her lady parts). I'm not watching any new shows anymore. I'll wait a season or two and if I get good word of mouth (or if Jo tells me to), I'll catch up on dvd. When it comes to tv, I do whatever Jo says. His knowledge and tastes are quite remarkable, folks -- nearly infallible.
crochety - tivo series 2 on special now for like $69 everywhere .. get yourself one.
When I do eat breakfast it is usually around 3:00 in the afternoon, so I belive in an order to the meals of the day. FIrst meal of the day to me is breakfast, the next one is Lunch and your third meal is dinner.
I usually just have breakfast between 11:00 & 1:30, and lunch around 7 or 8. By the way, I usually have traditional "lunch" foods for my breakfasts. Although lately i have been getting into freedom toast and sausages, which I think I'll have today.
On TV was just a great Magnum PI about a defecting Russian, Ahem... I mean Soviet Fighter pilot who tries to get his soviet fiance to defect when her track team visits Hawaii. You can't wirte TV that good any more.
Now I'm watching Samantha Brown in passport to Europe. She's in Barcelona, and she's hot. I ahve a secret celebrity crush on her. SHe's just some chick who is on like 4 different travel channel shows.
In the evening time it's all DEETROIT BASEBALL!! on my TV, bt lately my old magnetbox has only been showing half a picture, the bottom half. It's too bad that Earthquake is coming to take the projector away soon. TV will be set back pretty far.
Watchdog, come get big screen action while you can, this afternoon the theater may be closing for good.
Magic Hat #9 on tap.
THANKS BIRD!! GREAT POST!! YOU ALWAYS DO SUCH AN AWESOME JOB!!
I'm a fan of all three meals. I like to eat, so why wouldn't I eat every opportunity that the day suggests I should?
i have to eat 3 meals a day at the very least. in between meals, i snack. however, i've become quite the "grazer" lately and just sort of eat a bit here and there throughout the day if i'm at home. at work though, i stick to the square meals and try not to snack all too often.
let's face it folks, i eat. alot. often. it's a stroke of luck and good genetics that i'm not a 1000 lbs.
BSG has a hot korean chick on it...she's korean-canadian. she rules. power to my peoples!
i have tivo machine but not hooked up. don't i have to have a phone landline? i don't want the cable company to find out that i get free hbo and showtime...that would really put a cramp in my tv shows.
i heart project runway lately. that's the only thing i catch regularly. everything else, i get on netflix and catch up over the holidays when i'm bored out of my mind visiting my mom in freaktown, usa.
***sigh***
30 Rock (I almost said 3rd Rock) was pretty funny because of Tracy Morgan, they could have left all th eother parts out...except the scene when Rachel Dratch says "that cat isn't an actor".
That was funny.
It's all about DVR kids.
It will change your life for the better.
LC .. is it a real ivo or one of those cable ones?
Tivo does not report people to CTV. It would be a break in privacy. Mine is hooked to my broadband. I get instant updates and don't ever have to worry about it ... I believe in being able to burn DVDs if I don't have time to watch it ... did you know the new media center PCs from Microsoft automatically delete your shows if you "keep them too long"? What kinda bullshit is that?
LC is right about the Korean girl .. something about being dirty ... hehe a dirty Cylon.
Jo - I'm also a big believer in the video iPod ... that thing is cool.
I miss Firefly .. where is Joss Whedon?
def diz. my peoples women are so smokin' but our men...i don't know why god did that to us!
jo is a tv know-it-all. so is ht. their brains are filled with that knowledge, yet they failed to remember that gem of a show "my secret identity". i will forever be happy that once, in my life, i knew of a show they did not. that never happens, and i will relish it always.
diz says he's almost done with our new site...WOOT! do we still get our own owfl email accounts????
lunch is same as yesterday...turkey, swiss, hummus, mayo, mustard, tomato on wheat pita. i'm sure to be hungry by 2pm.
I'm a breakfast eater. I don't miss it. I only miss it in rare circumstances, like when I run out of milk. I have a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee every morning. If I don't eat it then i'm totally starving all morning.
Frankly, I don't know how you non-break-fast people do it.
Sunshine, would love to get some more big screen action, but got a friend from Chicago (non-blogger) coming into town and need to play host, but perhaps will bring him by.
Jo, quick, who portrayed the eldest daughter on Just the 10 of Us and what was her character's name?
Marie was played by Heather Langenkamp.
We're going to have a short conf. call later today (4:45 est) so diz can bring us up to date on the new site. email me if you want the call in #.
I'm DVRing Battlestar Galactica b/c I've heard so many good things about it from a WIDE array of people. Do I absolutely need to see the first two seasons, or can I just start watching?
I watch an inordinate amount of TV, so I've caught most of the new shows so far. The ones that have made it onto my "set a series recording" list are Heroes, Ugly Betty, and Friday Night Lights. Heroes and Ugly Betty are a super fun good time, but Friday Night Lights is **awesome**. Seriously, up there with The Wire and Veronica Mars in my awesome shows everyone should watch right now list. And it's getting horrible ratings, so if I watch BSG, will you watch FNL?
Lunch today was sushi, which always results in me being hungry again in an hour, but we have a farewell party this afternoon, so I've got my snack all lined up.
Gimletgirl, I currently watch and dvr all the shows you mentioned, except Ugly Betty.
I have the first two seasons of BSG on dvd if you want to borrow them. I think they'd be helpful, strike that, they really are essential to understanding the relationships of the folks if not to simply to get a good chronology of what has already transpired.
i know i may be booed for a bit but besides being a non-breakfast eater (aside from sunday recovery breakfasts) i often will graze for lunch (or forget it completely and hit dinner up hard.
I love elaborate cooking... i should apply it to premaking lunches so i dont find myself without any money (miso's favorite midgit based bar) for lunch..
now you should get a PVR... it makes your tv useful again. I used to run a MythTV box and when i came up here i reinstalled with Windows MCE and it's retardedly simple. It's also given me the opportunity to sample almost every new show this season and here is what i have found:
they all blow.
Vanished: Piece of shit
Jerico: Piece of shit written by someone with a 3rd grade science education
Studio 60: Piece of shit version of the West Wing sans politics
All 1/2 hour shows: Pieces of shit with laugh tracks.
But... Lost is back and that makes me happy.. it is wonderful. And with the PVR i spend the rest of my time watching recorded Daily Shows, Drawn Together and UFC..
Go buy or build a PVR now.
Lunch today? Blue berry pop-tart.
and everyone around me can be described as:
a marsh plant of the gentian family that has white, pink, or purplish flowers and is native to the northern hemisphere. Latin name: Menyanthes trifoliata
I hate breakfast. Never eat it. No food before 11am, at the earliest is usually my rule.
Too much tv to get into. I'm using LC's "computer" for reasons too embarrassing to go into here. (seriously, delete on this means "backspace" and there is no backspace, best as I can tell)
I'm watching Boy Meets World right now.
Oh, and my interview was cancelled b/c they decided to hire someone from their earlier round of applications. I am not a happy girl. Therefore, I won't be blogging much today.
ooh.. yeah.. heros is entertaining..
On my lunch: I have finally found the perfect sandwich to order from the lunch counter in my building. Helen "Mom" has avocado, I never knew that, so today she made me a turkey club with avocado.
It turned out great. All sorts of new possibilities now.
Back to tv:
The best friend from boy meets world was on Veronica Mars the other night. And The Unit (CBS) has already had two guest stars who are alumni from HBO's Deadwood.
Lost had another Deadwooder last night.
And m your opinions on sitcoms are a little outdated, sure there is still a glut of laugh tracked bs out there, but the best 30 minute sitcoms these days are laugh track less and of a much higher quality. Curb your Enthusiasm, The Office, Arrested Development (RIP, but catch it on that G-4 channel), My Name is Earl etc. And HBO haddy on "Lucky Louie" this summer, it had a live studio audience, and it worked...most of the time.
And I think you lost everyone except diz with your, PVR/Mythbox talk.
Rider Strong was in Veronica Mars - Sean from Boy Meets World. Best. Name. Ever.
That was an easy one, Jo.
(I think I had a crush on Constance. Man, I was a weird kid.)
Went with a shrimp burrito from Burrito Beach. They've got a new one in the Illinois Center across the street. Boy, it sure is nice to have three burrito options within a three block radius.
Okay, I'm going to try to do my list of TV viewing (evening only)...
Sunday - The Wire (though, I watch a week ahead, onDemand)/Entourage/Sopranos/the L Word (these are all seasonal); Amazing Race
Monday - Prison Break, Vanished, Studio 60 (dipso - i can see why you don't like this show, but I dig it), Weeds (best show on TV right now)
Tuesday - Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars (is this the Heroes night? I can't get into that show), Friday Night Lights, Nip/Tuck
Wednesday - Lost, Project Runway, I Pity the Fool, Laguna Beach
Thursday - is this the OC? I'll be watching that when it comes on. I think this is The Office/My Name is Earl, too.
Jo - what am I forgetting?
Why do I have to tell someone in their late 20's that using a purple glitter gel pen for correspondences is not appropriate in a work environment??!!!
Oh, I also really like Supernatural, but I don't know when it's on anymore... need to track that down.
Those are all excellent shows you mentioned jo. i shed many a tear when Arrested went off the air and am quite enamored with the office and earl.. i even saw a "how i met your mother" that made me giggle the other night.. my rant was directed towards the smattering of 1/2 hour shows that i have seen that are new this season... i have never been so dissapointed with david cross...
anyway.. back to work (what the hell is this doing encased in jello?)
speaketh the woman who calleth herself Lady A....oy.
Rider Strong hasn't aged a day since he was on Boy Meets World. Thus, his appearance on VM was down-right freaky.
Jo--I may take you up on the DVD offer.
On topic, I'm definitely a breakfast person (though usually it's just a luna bar or nutrigrain bar or somesuch). But I probably shouldn't be. I find that I get far hungrier on days when I eat breakfast than on days when I skip breakfast. Although it could be that on breakfast-skipping days I'm usually really, really busy and may just not notice my tummy grumbling.
m, what's the new David Cross show?
I heard he was doing some animated thing called Freaks?
Top Model, too. In chatting with Jo, I should point out -
I tried to like TheNine (shout out to BonBon's nephew) but I don't. And, I can't get into Heroes, as I mentioned. I want to like Six Degrees, but it's too confusing, and now I don't know when it's on. I also want to see that Brothers and Sisters show, and something with "Brian" in the title with that kid from Evermore, or Seventh Heaven or something. I think that sums it up for now.
GG - don't you have a dual DVR? What are your capabilities with that?
Yeah GG, please clear up something for me, HT seems to think you can tape two shows silmultaneously while watching a third LIVE show.
Is this the case?
You can tape 2 shows while watching a third previously-taped show.
It has changed my TV watching life. I now watch so much more crap than ever before. And I'm okay with that.
The only thing that would make it better is if you could watch an On Demand program while recording two other shows.
GG, you can...
I should amend that last remark GG. You can watch an on demand program or movie (Premium channel On Demand) but you cannot watch a pay per view program that exists on one of th eother regular pay per view channels.
jo - yeah.. freaksquad.. i've only seen one but it was pretty dissapointing..
my biggest problem with my pvr is that windows media center's priorities are wacky and i end up losing a niptuck because there is a rerun of futurama or alton brown kills keeps it from recording something else... 2 tuners aint enough.
hmm, i have the TiVo box thang and the remote. if i can hook it up to my broadband/high speed cable internet connection, then i'd do that in a heartbeat. however, i do not want to turn into your dvr-ing tv obsessed freaks. therefore, maybe i'll just let the damn TiVo sit and collect dust.
wow, i've posted again today. that never happens. if i get fired, you all are to blame.
LC - every time you bad mouth TV, Jo kills a kitten. Be careful lest you incur the wrath of the Czar.
Anti-television propaganda is dealt with swiftly and violently in these parts.
Tread carefully.
ugh.. i hit a wall at work.. a wall of lack of drive? see so much of a wall i can't even phrase it right.. i am having trouble forcing myself to do more than watch this database run, slackjawed and drooling..
arg... where did everyone go? tell me more about your viewing habits and borderline poisonous diets!
I'm on the conference call, and I don't understand anything that anyone's saying.
ok
