By the luck of the draw this first day of her departure happens to be the day of my first official scheduled post since the very unceremonius coup d'etat that took place while I was at the OWFL Music Festival (Bonnaroo) last month.
Being the statesman and gentleman that I am I will not attempt to return the favor and make a power grab while Hatertot vacations. It simply is not my way.
But since it is MY day, I do plan on having little fun. So to start off...
How about some good old fashioned OWFL Pet Blogging: Josephus style!
Next how about some song lyrics?
Can you guess the song and the band?
Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car?
Yes, there's gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
Know who you are
Careful what you carry
'Cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes
Do you recognize that dark lyrical sarcasm?
Well if you guessed "Kid Charlemagne" by Steely Dan, you were right!
Way to go Peep!
Now for some trivia:
Name the 1986 movie in which Steven Bauer (Scarface) played a Police Detective, Dan Hedaya (Clueless) played a Police Captain, Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue, LA Law, West Wing) played a drug lord, and Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos) played a street hood named 'Snake'.
Stop googling wookie!
That was an easy one, it was of course "Running Scared" starring my main man Gregory Hines (R.I.P.) and some other guy named Billy Crystal.
Now onto the subject of lunch.
El Presidente's voyage across the ocean reminded me of something.
I have long wondered if is possible to bring the beasts of land and sea together in a delicious sandwich.
Usually when I have made attempts it has involved Bacon, the Henry Clay or "Great Negotiator" of the lunch kingdom and salmon, which is kind of like the Lord Marbury of the sea (West Wing reference think of a drunk somewhat annoying Ambassador who seems to know the solution to everything).
But I wonder if there is any other way to succesfully marry terra firma (beef, chicken, pork, etc.) and Atlantis (waterfowl, seafood, shellfish...) into a sandwich?
Think on this question friends and then share with us your answer to that riddle and of course tell us...WFL?

I submit to you that Wookie didn't even have to google ... simply to go to imdb.com. Its got some great info on that movie.
My new obsession is Scarlet Johansen. I dig all young chicks who dig older guys (for the obtuse: movie reference)
mmmmm Boobs
So I'm a bit snarky this morning which leads me to one of the most obvious of land and sea marriages, Surf and Turf. Not so much a happy marriage but maybe one of necessity or convenience. The two most expensive things on a menu thrown together by fate.
Yeah, I think I could write a movie on that premise.
That aside I'd like to point out that this is a good post.
Cheers!
That brings me to my
Those pix are funny. My friend & former co-worker's cat also sits in the upright position. Sometimes my cat will be cleaning her nether-regions with her leg straight up in the air & then she'll get distracted and just sit there . . . leg in the air.
Surf & turf is obviously the best ever, but it's not a sandwich. And dude, Jo, what the hell kind of waterfowl have you ever eaten?? Penguin? Seagulls (aka flying rats of the sea)? Pelican??
Anyways, great post. And tough question. What about some kind of an oyster-pork po-boy? Hmmmm. There must be some answer to this that doesn't necessarily involve bacon.
Oh, that reminds me - chicken puttanesca has chicken and sardine paste in it. Will that do??? Again, not a sandwich, but you could put it on a roll, like a meatball sandwich. So, yeah, chicken puttanesca sandwich! I did it! Yay!
My next OWFL pet blogging post will involve all the pictures sent to me. Blogger wouldn't let me upload anymore pics last night.
I haven't heard any succesful "surf & turf" sandwiches yet...
The po'boy idea might have promise.
I'm surprised none of you have thought to use the sausage kingdom.
You can definitely throw chicken and shrimp between two pieces of bread or some sort of carb. My favorite fajitas are the combo fajitas, chicken/shrimp, steak/shrimp...yum...same concept just in a tortilla.
I would make some sort of jambalaya, creole sandwich thing maybe. Sautee up chicken, shrimp and andouille in a spicy sauce. Then I'd take a fresh loaf of french bread, split it, hollow it out a little and load it up with the meat mixture. I'd even consider throwing in a few veggies like some okra to balance it out.
I'm pretty sure Paella combines mussles and pork. Now slap a gob of that between two pieces of bread, and it ain't too bad.
That's all my wisdom today, off to Toronto!
Yaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!! Sandwich party!!!!!!!
Fish sausage, Jo? Ew. Mmmm . . . paella. I haven't had a good paella in awhile. Hm, my mom has a paella pan - maybe I can convince her to cook some. Or I guess I could try to do it myself. And mmmm . . . jambalaya.
I'm waiting for a seafowl recipe to come up Penguin wurst, anyone?
Duck is waterfowl..
Any thoughts - especially you people up in the city?
Quickie Metro Lunch
oh yeah, i posted on that blog. jo, where's that half-smoke stand you always go on about?
Ben's Chili Bowl is right next to the U Street Cardozo Metro. But the line takes time to navigate.
By the way, I had two five Guys "little cheese burgers" for dinner last night. One was my personal BBQ style with bacon, jalepenos, lto, pickles, mayo and bbq sauce. The other was more traditional jo fare with lt, fried onions, sauteed shrooms, heavy mayo and ketchup. Cajun fries on the side. mmm mmm good.
Fried clam and chicken strip poboy.
mmmmm
HT is sitting on the plane! She's only eaten celery from her bloodies today! And she's been up since 5! I know she sent the email to everyone, but I feel like it need to be put on here so as to be more permanent. And public, of course. What will her fans say??
I LOVE I LOVE I LOVE that picture! Poor little thing! And the monsters are so cute! AWWWWW!!!!!
I dinnae get no email!
2 half smokes for lunch.
One with chili cheese & onions.
The other with cooked onions mustard and ketchup.
fritos.
grape soda.
I forgot to mention that my whole meal was $4.
check your gmail, jo.
I'm a little disappointed in you, DC OWFLers. Am I the only one who cares enough about Steven Ginsberg to help him find a decent meal near a metro?? For shame! For shame!!
Grabbed myself a spinach melt, and Mr. Uni a turkey club to go. Getting ready to make the long haul to western NY. Oy.
I also packed us some other road trip snacks: honey wheat pretzels, granola bars, special K snack bars, ranch soy crisps...sounds somewhat healthy, right? Don't worry, I'll wind up getting french fries and a burger at the first pit stop and I'll smoke at least a pack of cigarettes.
Oh, Uni, is the chocolate/meat/cheese challenge weekend?? Good luck!! And enjoy that burger & fries!
Oy...me wanna go home!!!
Lunch was two vodka tonics and then some gum.
How about frog sandwich?
NO CIGS!!!!
but I'm dying for one...or 30.
I think frogs, sea lions or platypi would count on their own.
Destro!
wasn't googling answers today as i was on a bus from nyc back to dc to come into the office by 1pm.
i just had lunch. southwest tuna wrap from abp. the lavash was spinach, but it was hard and stale. i'm sleepy and i want to go home. i'm in a bad mood.
Poor thing, wookie! I hope you get some rest & better food tonight. :-(
hahahahhahhah that cat is like al bundy or something. i love it when animals take on human characteristics.
Wow - a weekendend appearance from the delightful MissChibi! Yippee!
I was hoping for a weekend post, but I'll just comment here. Yesterday lunch was an exhorbitantly expensive caesar salad here at the hotel while I worked in the room, after getting a good 5 hours of sun. Followed by a second, "pupu lunch" of random app-type things and a beverage that I actually consumed out of a coconut. (TheBestFriend's drink was served in a pineapple)
Today while the rest of the group is snorkeling, I will work, then meet up with them later for some adventures around the island, to (hopefully) include The Robin's Nest and other Magnum PI related goodness, and some snooping for the Lost set, on the North Shore.
Lunch is set to involve pulled pork sandwiches and/or burgers with pineapple and maui onions and heavy mayo. Dinner is sushi, or so says the itinerary.
In a moment or two I'm going to set out for some iced Hawaiin coffee and perhaps a muffin. I've been waking up before 7, but last night almost passed out in my food at 10. It's rough going.
