Impromptu

Donde esta E-que?

Ok, so we got a letter from Mr. Uni's family about his annual family reunion in NY in a few weeks. This year apparently they are having a campfire cook-off. They gave five ingredients in which at least three of them MUST be used: marshmallows, chocolate, meat, cheese and fruit. The rules are a bit unclear so I am under the assumption that the majority of the food prep. is supposed to be done using outdoor cooking equipment. I had a bit of trouble and was perplexed for a good while of how to incorporate at least three of those ingredients. Chocolate, meat and marshmallows...gross. Cheese, fruit, meat...maybe. Marshmallows, cheese, chocolate....hmmm. Meat, cheese, marshmallow....blecch. Right now I'm shooting for the chocolate, marshmallow and fruit trio.

My idea: Mexican s'mores. Chocolate bars and marshmallows wrapped up in a burrito and deep fried in a dutch oven, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (made fresh in my camping ice cream maker ball) and then drizzled with a fresh raspberry puree sauce of some sort. What do you think? What would you make with those ingredients?? I need some help and input people!

and of course.....WFL????

Wow, those sound aaaaweeesoooommmmeee . . . I think you're going to show everyone up! Hm. You could make like a chocolate mole sauce & use the meat & cheese & make some sort of Peruvian-ish dish. Does unsweetened cocoa count, or does it have to be Hershey's?

Lunch will be whatever I can pick up at the golf course. This is our leaving-do for a lady in my office who is transferring to our Boston office. Perhaps a hot dog. That always goes good on golf courses. If it's raining, maybe we'll just camp out at the 19th hole & I can get something fancier. Damn, I'm hungry all of a sudden.

Lunch will be with a departing co-worker.
I hate being at work today.

Lunch today is going to be a greasy burger. I don't know how I just pulled off a five-day bender, but I did, and I now I must appease the GI gods.

Uni, I like your concept dish, but my experience with dutch ovens and campfires is spotty. I've never been able to exert too much control over them.

Did everyone take today off to mourn the closing of NJ's casinos?

Oh, EQ, I've had Uni's campfire fondue. It was just as good as Melting Pot's. Better, really, b/c I was drunk & hungry. That girl can work wonders without a stove.

Peep - that's the best advice I've had all week! I'm just waiting for jada to tell me to suck it down.

And LT, the mole idea sounds delicious...but I have to remember who will be eating this stuff...people who live off of Old Country Buffet and canned veggies. With that, I think anything fried is in the proper ballpark. Their international flair is slim to nil ...I think there are still some of his family that are impressed at how well I speak english...

I think I'm even pushing it by using the term 'mexican'. Although I have a feeling they probably classify any food in a tortilla as mexican...as they do anyone who speaks spanish or is of latin descent. ;)

Just had a reminder pop up telling me that I have to do the post tomorrow. Hope I can get to it for the love of the blog.

Uni. I would put appples, mini marshmellows, hot chocolate mix, cream cheese and bologna in a blender and then pour the misture out on to a griddle and make some pancake style eats... for everybody else. I'd eat an apple

Lunch today was from the cafeteria up here in lovely schenectady's Union College i kicked it with a slice of pizza what had lil' slachiches (or sausages for you gringos) and a buffalo style chix sammie. Which was basically a patty on pread with Frank's red sauce. I love's me some Franks.

Scratch the greasy burger. I wound up making a run for the border, which I find both a little disappointing and a little exciting. In any event, it did the trick, and I'm starting to feel vaguely human again.

Uni, how is it that I lived above you for a year and a half, and I don't know that I've tasted more than three items of your creation? Did you and Mr. Uni take offense at my love of rolling bowling balls off the coffee table and on to the floor?

I have NO idea e-quake! BUT, we did just hang out at a bar for the first time together...EVER last friday!

I would hear all these great stories of the stews and chowders you were making upstairs...but never had a cup left at my doorstep...

I have said it before but it bears repeating, I would eat anything Uni makes. I would SUCK IT DOWN! That my dear, sounds awesome.

I had subway: turkey on wheat and a diet coke with lime. I eat a lot of Subway.

I forgot to ask Uni, will people be laying on the ground and have others pour boxed wine into their mouths from above at Mr. Uni's family's shindig?

Oh don't worry Jada...I fully intend to introduce the Franzia shuffle at the next OWFL conference!
