Thanks Jo. Any DC OWFL'ers wanna come to Chinatown and hit a restaurant with me?

I'm thinking Kanlaya.

Happy Birthday WD

Can't make it to Chinatown for lunch, I'll be on the other side of the suburbs.

Looking for something light for lunch today. can choose from McD's, Chili's, Olive Garden, Bagel market, New York Deli. If you waere in my shoes, what would you get?

Anonymous said...

Do old school Chochski's style, get their burgerific deal of the day

Heliocentric said...

I'll get more than just a burger, I'll get a fun attitude and flair. maybe they have a buffalo wing and bacon salad with lite dressing

Happy birthday Watchdog! I wish I could come tonight, but I have a date with the stairmaster and then a can of paint. Yes, I'm double-booking.

Sunshine, why not go to the NY Deli & get turkey on whole wheat or multigrain? And dijon mustard, maybe a little mayo, LTO, sprouts, jalapenos. Mmmm. Hey, that sounds almost exactly like my sandwich today! (what a segway) Except I have a slice of jarlsberg, no jalapenos (forgot, dammit) & my bread is 'Sprouted Soy Crunch' with whole grains. I am intrigued & eager to try it. I hope it doesn't have freezer burn. I'm afraid to take it out of the freezer b/c that's where I found it at Whole Foods. Mmm, I'm hungry. Just had some Hapi rice/seaweed snacks, but unless I eat the whole bag, that just ain't gonna cut it.

Happy BDay WD! I'd love to join yinz for Thai, but I'm stuck here for a 1pm meeting.

If I were you MS, I would totally get soup, salad and breadsticks at OG.

I'm having a single person sandwich when I get a chance. Boring.

LizTurtle said...

Oh, WD, you were talking about lunch. Why did I have dinner in mind?? Ah well. Still can't make that. Sigh! God, chinese would be good. I've decided the Panda Maxx is shite since they've changed owners or whatever. Although I'd like to try their sushi & see if it's improved. They have a shiny new banner with lots of choices now, so maybe . . . . ah, how I tempt the gods of food poisoning.

Going to get my sandwich now. Sammy can't wait!

Turkey sandwich again today. I added some onion sprouts and blackbean/cilantro hummus to the standard LTO combo. I may get some veggie soup or a salad for a side though.

Happy birthday WD! I owe you a pie..although I can't do strawberry again...that one came out disasterous last year!

blogger has been messin' up today. Anyhoo, we'll all do lunch some other time.

But in the meantime, i'm thinking that gourmet buffet, and its whatever the fuck I want.

Josephus said...

I will act in solidarity with the birthday boy and go to Soho for their buffet.

Heliocentric said...

I went to Chotchky's, but I got the half turkey sammy with applewood bacon and swiss and a cup of baked potato soup. not cost effective, but for the first itme in a few weeks, I am pleased with my lunch. Thanks team.

WD, it's your day, you make sure that you include some cake in your whatever you want from that buffet.

Anybody object to calling the "Eating Club" post "Side orders"? If it finds its way in to the daily routine.

Josephus said...

I like that sunshinny.
"Side Orders"

Happy Birthday Watchdog!

I am having a ham and swiss on 12 grain bread with dijon mustard, some leftover baby yellow potatoes with peas, butter an mint that I made last night and some strawberries for an afternoon snack. I'm going to be making a real attempt to bring my lunch more often. It saves me money and calories, I beleive.

I know Sunshine already had lunch, but I would have agreed with HT on the olive garden soup, salad and breadsticks. I absolutely love their stupid salad.

I got too many yummy things to name at the ol' buffet, and now i'm stuffed. Plus I got a lacky-like assignment that involves me walking up to the Hill to deliver some documents. And its a helluva nice day, so i'm gonna walk S L O W. Work off that thanksgiving sized portion.

Oh, and Uni, as I recall that pie was awesome. I don't think you've ever made something that wasn't sotally rockin'

Go to the Crystal City Restaurant. I guarantee you'll like it. he he he

Lady A said...

WD - is that place really vegetarian friendly....I have a feeling it's all about the fresh meat...

Anonymous said...

Yeah but they have a strict policy against eating the meat, its only for looking at and throwing dollar bills at.

Anonymous said...

The only Crystal City place I know is the Crystal City Sports bar. Which is actually pretty solid, with lots of good food and beer.

That street is loaded with all kinds of other restaurants, and i'm sure at least one of them is good.

What's that street called again?

12th?

dizkonekdid said...

happy bday Watchdog.

LizTurtle said...

I like 'Side Orders', but I'm still laughing at WD's 'Eating Out' club. Hee hee!

Crystal City has a new Jaleo. Um. Trying to think of anywhere I've actually gone there before. Crystal City is kind of soul-less. Hm. I would say, maybe just go up Pentagon City & hit the Row. There's a Sine & a Champps (b/c I know you're just looking for the new incarnations of Chotchkies). There's also a Mortons. C'mon, E-que, I know deep down, your a steakhouse kind of guy.

Lady A said...

I think the sports pub is off of 23rd actually, right next to Bancock...dbl heh heh heh

LizTurtle said...

WD, I think you might be talking about 23rd St? I think there's one or two mexican restaurants and a couple of italian places, and maybe a chinese and/or thai place down there. It's "ethnic".

My sammy was very unsatisfying, so I'm eating (finally!) the rest of the spaghetti squash I made last week with buttah & parm/reg cheese. Oh, and garlic powder. Snarf. Actually, I'm afraid this will prove as unsatisfactory as the sammy. What am I craving?? Maybe I'll go get a warm pita this afternoon & have some hummus. Although walking the 3 blocks in my 3 1/2" heels today does not appeal . . . .

Lady A said...

There is also a Legal Seafoods and a for real Chotchkies.

Heliocentric said...

EQ, all the good spots in Crystal city have been mentioned... so has the CC Restruant.

Legal seafoods & Friday's on the East side of Jefferson HWY

The sports pub, and ethnic options galore on the West side.

Not too far off you have the options at Pentagon city and then at Patomac yards you have Hops, Don Pablos, Macoroni Grill?

Go for the Hops at Patomac Yards. The vegetarian in you may have a problem with the menu, but the beer lover in you will get over that really quickly.

HaterTot said...

E-Que, you want to go to Oyamel on Crystal City drive or some shit. It's like pre-Hispanic Mexican themed. Owned by the same folks as Jaleo, Zaytinya and Cafe Atlantico.

But yeah, Crystal City blows. But this place is good stuff.

Lady A said...

HOPS also has these croissanty dinner rolls smothered in honey butter...they melt on your tongue. But if you go that far, you might as well go the extra 10 minutes to Old Town Alexandria..much better places to eat in a much better environment.

Heliocentric said...

Old town has the torpedo factory.

Not a gay bar, but a good name for one.

LizTurtle said...

Ooooh, I do like the rolls at Hops. Hm, I wonder if they do take-out . . . I might not be cooking tonight, due to my date with the stairmaster . . . .

Yeah, seriously, if you're already going off the metro line, just come on down to Olde Towne. Is there something you're in the mood for? What's the budget like? I can give you many more Olde Towne idears.

The Doctor said...

Is this where this goes? I don't know what's going on. Anyway, sorry if I put this in the wrong place.

Went to Subway. Walked right into this ongoing battle between customer lady and sandwich artist.

Customer: “…more on the END.”
Artist: (Adds more onion.)
Customer: “No, more ON THE END.”
Artist: (Adds more onion.)

I look at the counter and sure enough, the sandwich is now smothered in onions, but for whatever reason, this guy hasn’t distributed that particular fixin’ evenly, leaving about ¼ of the footlong sandwich onion free. (Customer, however, certainly could have taken care of this on her own later.)

Customer: “NO, more onion….ON THE END.”
Artist: (Holds up a piece of onion and glares at Customer, crying with exasperation:) “Dees EES dee Oneeyan!!!!!”

Me? 6” meatball. No mayo. That’s the Tuesday special. I’m in a Subway rut. So close, so cheap.

Heliocentric said...

When Lizturtle was describing her sandwich yesterday with the almost runny turkey and limp lifeless veggies, I was thinking to myself that it sounds just like everything I've ever gotten from Subway. But then the image of used-to-be-fat, but-will-always-be-a-virgin Jarred popped into my head and I was too scared to say anything.

dizkonekdid said...

Is there anyone who likes Jarred? That poor souless little slouch.

But I'm sure he is a nice guy.

The Doctor said...

Oh what yuck, Ms. Hoity Toity? (HT!! Ha!) Subway's cheap, it's low grade, sure, but it's also sort of filling/sort of nutrition and I bet you have as good a chance of contracting hepatitis at the breadline. Plus, i'd guess they contribute more to the Grand Old Poopheads than breadline.

LizTurtle said...

Sunshine, are you implying I'm a virgin & always will be? Harumph.

The last time I went to Subway, I had been seduced by those commercials with the garlic bread. So I went to my neighborhood Subway and they were out of the bread. Subway constantly disappoints me, and yet I keep going back and trying again. Has anyone ever had Jersey Mikes? God, those are good hoagies.

And Dipso, that story is f'ing hysterical. But I have to object to the idea the customer could 'fix it' later. Have you ever tried to rearrange toppings on a Subway sandwich? You basically wind up sandwich scrapple. That shit don't come apart.

Heliocentric said...

No, no no LT. I just meant that your description of your sandwich the other day sounded like subway to me.

Read it for yourself:

Lunch = salad with almost past-prime arugula, sprouts, tomato, sliced hardboiled egg (shout-out Uni!) and some almost past-prime turkey. I think in another day that turkey will be too slimy to eat.

Doesn't that take you to a yellow room with transit themed wallpaper? I know it does it for me.

Lady A said...

I love scrapple.

Heliocentric said...

Me too. I just can't get enough spiced pork elbows, tails, and "other pork parts' like it says on the label.

Reminds me of Grandma. She ate that shit for breakfast every day and lived to be 94.

Josephus said...

Who is this Rico guy?

The Doctor said...

Right, Happy B-Day, WD.

I see your point, LT, and I generally hate HATE having to open any sandwich (with the exception of removing the bottom half of a burger for s&p application). But this particular mound of onions could have been adjusted relatively easily, I believe. Especially when the alternative is fighting futilely with this poor little dude. I'm not anti-customer rights, but in my world that particular display would have earned her a social etiquette demerit. Ten will send you to the gallows. Ahh…my world.

Heliocentric said...

Just an administrative point to be raised about the 2 post system.

Can we just have a post in the morning titled "WFL 5.9.06" so that we know where to go for lunch advice. (of course we'd have to change the date in the title every day, but I'm sure that can be done)

Then if a poster signed up to do a Side Order that day, title it 'Side Order: Topic'

That way we won't get lost when looking at one post or the other.

Let me know what you think. I;ll be posting a Side Order tomorrow (my first post) and that's the convention I'll be following.

Josephus said...

SCRAPPLE!!!

Josephus said...

This is the time to set a precedent Mikey. Choose wisely...

LizTurtle said...

This is true, Dipso, and I generally agree with you. I'm also pro-death penalty for those assholes that drive on the shoulder then cut in front of you.

Ah, gotcha Sunshine. I was worried there. Hee, transit themed wallpaper. Man, I used to love that place when I was in like jr. high. Of course, I thought permed hair was also the height of fashion . . . .

I'm hungry again. I may make the trek for pita. At least it's sunny out.

Miu, scrapple is scary. Don't be fooled by the benign-looking picture in that wiki entry. It will eat you alive if you're not careful.

Delicious murder.

Josephus said...

For the record, I had lunch at the Soho buffet. Fried rice and corn with equal parts, General Tso Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, BBQ pork, and a Mushroom Chicken dish. Some glass noodle salad on the side. Vitamin Water fruit punch to drink.

LizTurtle said...

lotta delicious murder in that meal there, Jo.

sorry i've been MIA. busy. cranky. sleep deprived. annoyed.

i'm sleep deprived so cannot make it to WD's HH tonight. bummer. but i give you a hearty FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS from the bottom of mi corazón!

i had breadline egg salad (with celery, scallions, and sundried tomatoes mixed in) for lunch on homemade olive bread with arugula.

Jada said...

El Rancheros are the freakin best chips. They are the closest thing to El Az chipc I have ever been able to find. I have a bag at home right this very minute and I made some mango salsa to go with them the other day. God damn that stuff is good!

Josephus said...

"That pigs going straight to Hell, and my tastebuds are going straight to Heaven."

Is there an HH for Watchdog tonight?

LizTurtle said...

There's also a Lebanese Taverna in Pentagon City.

Can't come to HH. :-( I will buy you a beer or something else next Friday, WD! Ha ha ha ha ha.

What are you asking me for?
