What Shouldn't You Have for Lunch?

So I was watching TV last night and there was this one commercial that got me salivating...it was for KFC...they have some new Hot Bowl with layers of mashed potatoes, corn, fried chicken pieces and then topped with melted cheddar cheese. I don't know why I'm drawn to it because it actually didn't look very appealing on the commercial and I know that it will make me feel like arse after eating it...BUT I WANT IT!! (FYI Jo- it is only $3.99 so it could very well fit your budget this week!)

We always discuss what we are having for lunch, but what are the things that you want but really don't want to admit that you want them...is it the crawfish etouffee from Popeyes? The McRib sandwich with the painted on rib-look-a-likes? Lobster Bites from Long John Silvers? The triple meat breakfast sandwich from BK? The 1/2 pound beef and potato burrito from Taco Bell??

What are the things that you want...but you know you shouldn't get...and of course WFL?

oh man, great question uni. every now and then, i'll crave a whopper from burger king. i saw on a commercial that the whopper junior is now on their dollar menu, and i got sort of excited. i used to eat those all the time and secretly pray during road trips that their at my rest stop.

i also am sort of ashamed to admit that i crave bad suburban restaurant chain food, like benegan's or chili's. their awesome blossum/blooming onion thing with that mayo dip is off the chain. and they have a cheesy mango margarita that i don't mind slurping down on a hot summer day.

One of the most god awful meals I have ever had was when my now ex husband and I were in college and just dating and we succumbed to the desire for terrible food. It was summer and we were sitting around his fraternity house watching TV when a commercial came on for Red Lobster advertising some mega shrimp special. Three kinds: scampi, deep fried and grilled all for the low, low price of 9.95 or some shit. We looked at each other and said 'Let's go NOW!' Cut to an hour and a half later of us curled up in the fetal position on the floor of his bedroom and whimpering in agony. I'm not sure what was wrong with it, but we wanted to die and I think we almost did. I have never been to another Red Lobster since.

That's too funny Jade cause me and mr. uni do that all the time! We always see those Red Lobster commercials for the all you can eat shrimp fest and say that we NEED to go...we never do though and it sounds like that is a good thing!!

I've already had a couple of the new Burger King Texas Double Whoppers with extra mayo and jalapenos.
No not today.

Today is a work lunch at ines of Rome in Bethesda. I'm having the Carbonara.

I was about to say I have no shame about food, but then chain restaurants were brought up & I realized I do have the shame. I love the blooming onion. And Red Lobster has big plates of crab legs, which I have a fetish about. Ah, chain restaurants. So evil, yet so seductive.

Lunch today so far = Tab Energy. I'm not getting anything, b/c I have so much food to still prepare, so lunch will wind up being a nibble here, a bite there, a dip here & there of whatever I'm serving tonight. Panic! Panic! Panic!! I'm leaving in 45 minutes.

And Uni, I saw the commercial for that KFC bowl the other day and couldn't stop laughing.

The other day I was at Wendy's getting one of their new Frescatta sandwiches & I was seized with the temptation to get a 2 piece fried chicken meal - and I realized they don't have fried chicken anymore!! Just chicken sandwiches & chicken fingers!! I was so disappointed! And also relieved b/c then I had no excuse to not get the (relatively) healthier option.

Actually Liz-T I think it's a franchise decision wether or not to have fried chicken, the Wendy's a half a block away from my office still has the two and three piece meals.

Reeeeeeallllly Jo? Interesting! B/c I always liked their chicken better than KFC. Hm. I thought they used to have chicken at the one here, but maybe they never did. I would start a rally for it, but I can only eat it like once a year & then I feel like a greasebomb for the rest of the week.

Miu, good for you! I think part of the reason I hate the chains is that there was this Friday's I used to drink at until I turned 21 & then I never went back. So it reminds me of cheesy guys hitting on underage girls . . . .

I am one hurtin’ hombre today. I have to stop doing this to myself or I am going to die. Dead dipso. Peanuts are not the appropriate base for upwards of 20 high lifes, jameson shots, and tanq and tonics.

Anyhoodles…wfl? Hmmm…my teeth are hot and I have visine-bouncing-out-of-the-eyes syndrome. Can ice chips be lunch? Oh, and I have to go out drinking tonight and tomorrow. (Peep, are you thinking Milwaukee at all?) I’m effed.

I
am
effed.

Farewell cruel world!

Somewhat apropo of this post, I did hit McDonalds this a.m. for a sausage egg and cheese muffin meal with a bacon egg and cheese biscuit side car.

I love the occassional visit to Popeye's for some of that spicy friend chicken, and their biscuits rock. I also like to hit BK for an occassional breakfast sandwich.

I always feel burning hot shame when I enter these establishments, but I do it anyways. I guess I feel shame because I know the food is so bad for me and i'm already a few cases past a six-pack. Plus, they're evil conglomerates that are destroying the world in one or the other.

But the satisfication of the food gets me over it much how that first pull off the crack pipe must get a junkie over his guilt of hitting the rock once again.

wow dipso...good luck with that.

um, i scarfed down some left over chinese food. but i know i'm going to be hungry in about 30 mins.

uni & jo -- when i saw the KFC commercial for that hot bowl thing, i TOTALLY thought of both of you...

ok, not really. what actually ran through my head was 'hmmm, that actually sounds tasty and terrible at the same time.'

Just was in the bathroom and checked myself in the mirror. Inexplicably, I am having a very good hair day. Cool little flippy thing going on…kinda like Hermie, the would-be dentist elf. And then it hit me, hot and sour soup! Booya! Oh crap…I think I’m starting to feel better.

Holy crap Dipso, that was a beautiful description of a hangover.

I think there is shame in chain restaurants and I will avoid them as much as possible. Like Peep, I would much rather support the independent purveyor of tasty eats rather than the corporate empire. Unless it's Chipotle and then I am all about that crack, I mean rice.

My first thought upon seeing the KFC bowl commercial was "God bless America!" Honestly, I don't think I'm going to make a trip to get one, but I would put even odds down that if I found myself within spittin' distance of a KFC, I would probably order it. And eat it. And regret it. But not enough to not do it again.

As for the things I often get over the objections of my better judgment, certainly the steadiest is the Patty Melt Plate, scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, and topped at Waffle House. Fortunately, I don't routinely pass them now that I've "gone north." In fact, it's a haul for me to even get to one now, but my brain thinks that stuff is crack, meth, and blow jobs all wrapped up in one.

Speaking of unhealthy dining choices, lunch today was a bacon cheese and fries at Five Guys. I also bought a book, which I think may get broken in before the end of the day.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I love 7 Eleven food. Microwavables at their best, plus they have go-go taquitos and nachos that I can put sauerkraut on. If all goes well at LT's party I'll be stopping there on the way home!

Me, too, Uni! 7-11 is my absolute favorite drunk food.

Lunch today was an unexpected, and wholly unwanted and un-needed work lunch at Olives. I had the snapper blt, which when I ordered, for some reason, I didn't understand that there was a fish burger involved, and thought they just called their blt a "snapper burger blt" - I just assumed it'd be a regular blt. Seriously. I'm an idiot. It was good, but I'm so fucking tired. And now full.

If there’s one thing I won’t do, it’s eat a hot dog off the rollers at 7-Eleven. I know it’s totally illogical – the ones at ballpark are probably 10 times worse, and I’ll not think twice about tossing down a banger per inning. I just won’t do a 7-11 dog. Nope. If I did, I think I’d feel like I should be heading home to the trailer after supper.

Had an eggroll, too. Ugh…I guess I’m doing this Milwaukee thing.

I too am a big fan of 7-11's Go Go Taquitos, them's is good shit. I previously was like Dipso and the hotdogs, til I was turned on to the idea by my Mexican then-girlfriend. I figured if a Mexican enjoyed those taquitos, they must be muy authentico. I've never done a hotdog there and the roller thing scares me. I think the Simpsons forever ruined the hotdogs on roller things, so i'm with you there dip!

Lady A said...

I'm not prejudice to the roller dogs at the slev...I do refuse to eat a BOILED hotdog though..ugh.

Watchdog...didn't you eat a taquito off of the floor in the dirty rank 7-Eleven in our neighborhood? It was either you or mr. uni...it was that night that you were screaming "BACK IT UP! BACK IT UP! BACK IT UP!" to the bulldozer on our way home from adams morgan.

Anonymous said...

Its quite possible it was me. But I do not recall. My only memory of the walk home from Chief Ike's was the yelling of the "back it up back it up back it up". It seemed incredibly funny at the time.

But some one who eats hot prepared food from a convenience store at 3am shouldn't be too worried if it falls on the floor or not, especially if its under the 3 second rule.
