WFL? Jeudi, 18/5/06

I will again be going for a bargain lunch of sub-$5.
Probably a bean burrito from the vendor at 17th and L.
What about you kids?

And to you DC folk, a friend's band Mr. BigGuns will be playing at Clarendon Grill Friday night.
I will be going before I head to a soiree at a tortoise friend's place later in the evening.
I can't vouch for the band as I've never heard them, but I can vouch for the fact that the drinks will be flowing and the bassist is a friend.

Come on out and the first round is on me.

'sup lunchers! i'm back in the office after doing my civic responsibility of jury duty yesterday. not as cool as james vernor's experience, but i did get out fairly early.

not sure wfl today...don't have a hankering for anything. i did go bathing suit shopping yesterday though, which has spiraled me into a depressed state where i vow to only eat salad and drink water for the new few days. oh, and exercising 'til i drop.

I'll be camping at the Baltimore Bowmen Traditional Classic event this weekend. three days of camping, archery and... um ... more archery. It's kind of like a Bonnaroo of Bowmen, but not as many hippies.

Lunch this weekend will be what ever animal is unfortunate enough to cross my path.

Lunch today however is unplanned as of yet.

What I meant to say is that I won't be going to see your bassist buddy.

taf - The last time I got called for jury duty was shortly before Christmas. Despite having not lived there for years, I am still registered to vote in south Georgia, and that is where I showed up for jury duty (and a visit to my mom) in December. I was dismissed with my $20 after about 3 hours because I am a State Farm policyholder. Not exactly Runaway Jury stuff.

As for WFL, I'm actively fishing for ideas. I have nothing in mind, but I got a hunger building despite some poor dietary choices this morning. I'm a blank lunch canvas today. Somebody throw something on me!

Howdy lunchin' peeps.

EQ, I say go ethnic. Maybe Indian, somosas always rock. Something that will make you regret it later when you're looking for rolaids and a roll of tp.

As for me, i think i'm gonna do a salad as I had some serious junk yesterday. Burger King for breakfast and then a big burger with fries for lunch, top it off with a steak for dinner. One salad should counter all of that, plus if it doesn't fill me up I'll chase it down with another burger and fries.

I don't get dressed up and I am not sure what SCA is. In fact, I'm not too sure what I'm getting in to this weekend. If there's a bunch of guys running around in tights, I may just shoot them.

Ethnic lunch EQ? You know that means Senor Chotchky's. you down?

Shredded wheat does not taste good, but fat does not look good in a bikini. Compromises, compromises. I just ate a bowl of shredded wheat for breakfast.

If I were near a mall or a carnival I would get two corn dogs and boardwalk style fries with lots of malt vinegar and salt. But I am not so I guess I'll eat my turkey sandwich and blueberry yogurt.

Breakfast: 2 vitamin c chewables, 1 airborne, dissolved in water, 1 advil cold & sinus (for which I had to provide my id at the pharmacy to get - so much for starting my meth lab) plus a cup of coffee. Lunch today will be the remains of the chicken from yesterday, plus probably a smoothie with a vitamin c booster. Plus whatever other cold-fighting boosters they have. I'll be walking with office-mates to 5 Guys & then passing by on the way to the smoothie place.

Fear not, WFLers! I will be right as rain tomorrow. Party's still on.

EQ, you should have, um. Well, don't have leftover chicken & a cold-fighting smoothie. That's my lunch. I think watchdog's, right - go for indian. Or possibly thai. I love those glass noodles.

Jo, you are sooo Euro. I totally read the title as "What's for lunch, Judi?" & I'm all "'who's Judi? Judi Dench? Does she blog?"

Sunshine: sad to say that SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronims, but it's usually pronounced "douchebags."

I like the ethnic idea. Thanks for the suggestions, folks. When I cross-reference ethnic with walking distance, I get Senor Tchotckys. I'll buy that.

(And, lt, thanks for waving me off of the cold-fighting smoothie. I was strongly considering it for a second there. Get better.)

Actually, that's Anachronism.

I just gave myself a little haircut with my office scissors. Just a little off the sides. They’re a little clunky for the ears and nose, though. It’s amazing how bored one can be and still have SO MUCH work to do. Of course, this state I’m in lends itself nicely to thoughts of lunch, which is how I’ve been spending the better part of my morning. Here’s what I’ve come up with: Pizano’s deep dish pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives. I think I’ll order a medium and make it lunch tomorrow, too.

I’m going to think about it a little more, though. No need to be rash. I may want to add onions…just not sure yet…

miu: The more I've thought about it, the more impressed I've become. Not only did you apparently manage to score a pizza by obeying the law of gravity (nice work!), but you're the first person I've ever heard confirm that a member of SCA actually had a girlfriend.

Lunch update: chicken chimichanga and a ridiculous goblet of Shiner Hefe. Tasty.

Eating my refried bean burrito with, rice, salsa, sour cream, guac, cheese and hot sauce on a tomato tortilla.
with a can of Fresca it came to $6.35.

Am I the only one who loves refried beans? I think Taco Bell used to have a "pintos and cheese" thing you could order. I loved that shite.

Oh and the burrito stand is at 17th and K street NW, I think I may have said L street before.

Jada said...

Jo, you were over $5.00 today. You are really disappointing me by not completing your self imposed lunch restrictions this week. Before you know it, you will be skipping lunch entirely.

Lunch was is fact Senor Chotchky's with Earthquake and Sea Bass again. 2 Sierra Nevadas and a lunch chicken burrito.

And I don't think I'm in for a reniassance fair this weekend, I think I'm more in for a native american weekend. Think loin cloths, not tights and wenches.

I declare that 2 sierras is just enough to still appear sober at work, but a little too much to sustain any productivity.

I'm sorry Jade, I actually almost bypassed the burrito stand when I arrived and quickly did the math in my head. But I justified the expense after looking at the Capital Grounds Deli specials (a mere 30 ft from the burrito stand) and realized that the special sandwich + tax would end up costing more. Tomorrow i'll try to break even.

Heliocentric said...

So for the record, Josephus only has $3.65 for Friday lunch.

Looks fine if'n you ain't in to sides and drinks. But that's not your style, is it Jo?

Lunch was fish. That looked like chicken. I have no idea what kind of fish it was, just white fish, with sauce. And then some weird potato/carrot/egg cake. Followed by a classed up Ding Dong (or whatever they're called). Yep, kids - lunch was indeed free for the low, low price of my waning attention span. Yay for conferences!

Jo, if you love refried beans, you should take a tour of the El Azteco kitchen. The "bean gun" is a entirely unique invention that blasts refried beans from a heated holding tank onto whatever you want, nachos, tacos, burritos. We keep the beans moist by adding "bean juice", whose ingredients are a closely guarded secret. I wouldn't drink that stuff unless I was near a bathroom.

Maybe they'd let you do a "bean gun" stand, chug as much as you can. You may want to coat your mouth in wax first cuz its HOT.

Aw, I just found out I'm an aunt! And her name is Eve. I can't believe my brother didn't send out a picture of her with the announcement. And she was born (as he typed it): 6'1" That is one long baby.

Ah, but I didn't spend any lunch money on Monday so I've got another $5 to play with.

I'm in a lunch rut. I went to the CBA and got a Ravenswood sub today. Doggie Diner, CBA, Metropolis ... I need an intervention.

Mmm. Trader Joe's. They always have the most interesting frozen meals - so much better than just 'burrito' or 'pizza'. That being said, I've had a couple of the other, more ethnic ones (thai & a couple of indian) & I was little 'meh' on them, too. What a fun store!

I'm out. I have so much work to do on my place. Gah.

Mikey, it occurs to me you'd rather hang out with men in tights than come to my Christmas party? And to those who go with Jo - don't come too late to my party. Else I'll be crying amidst all my non-eaten foods & non-drunk drinks when you show up. :-( Jo, what time does the band start? It didn't say on their website & I couldn't find one for the C Grill.
