Is it Thursday already?
This week has gone by devilishly fast.
And speaking of the Prince of Darkness, what do you think he would serve you for lunch?
Say if he was trying to get you to sign away your soul and you were wavering a bit, what type of lunch could help him grease the wheels?
Me I'm thinking a really marblelized ribeye that has been spiced up perfectly. That wouldn't seal the deal, but it would get me to listen a bit.
What lunch would get you into a negotiating frame of mind with Lucifer?
And completely unrelated to that today we DC folk are going to dine with the New and Improved HaterTot! But where the heck are we going? And When?
WFL people?

That's awesome cuddles. That's-a spicy meatball!
On a lunch-related note, I can't fucking go. It's been brought to my attention that we have an all-staff meeting that I can't miss. Fuck!!!! What's even worse is that it's fucking brown bag. Who the hell has a mandatory office meeting at fucking lunch & makes it brown bag? My fucking office, apparently. I will lunch with the DC WFLers some day! With God as my witness! Oh, sorry, Satan's the man of the day, isn't he? I would consider selling my soul for one of these sandwiches I used to get in Rosslyn. It was this little sandwich place called Oreste's. I would get soprassata & provolone with extra hot peppers (I went so much, the guy knew) and mayo. Put the open-face sandwich under a toaster until cheese was all melty. LTO, oil-vinegar, salt & pepper. Heaven on a sub roll. And it was a good fresh sub roll. Then AMS moved out to Fair Oaks & the CEO or some such bigwig liked him so much he made him an offer to move out there & work in the cafeteria. So some underlings took over the Rosslyn location, but now it's closed. I'm so sad! God, that was a good sandwich. I wonder if he's still out at Fair Oaks. I may have to see if anyone wants to make a run out there sometime next week or whenever we're not so busy.
Siiiiiiigh. Enjoy lunch today WFLers. Think of me trying to prop my eyelids open . . . snore.
Scuse all the f bombs.
If the devil was making me lunch, it would definitely include a big old New York strip, barely medium rare, some kind of smooth whipped potatoes, steamed aspargus and creme brule plus lots and lots of deep red wine. But after a meal like that, I'd propably be hit with an insufferable IBS attack and just want to go lay down so the negotiations would probably have to be postponed.
I'm not having lunch with Satan today, so I think I'll probably eat the roasted chicken breast I made last night and some steamed veggies. Nobody wants my soul.
mmm, i'm going to second abs on that delicious feast. the devil would've had me at "eat up"!
yeah, we have to go do this presentation thing...it's gonna be academic and fun. we get to act like the experts. i'm excited.
i'm going to answer the original post and say "deviled eggs." ok, that was cheesy, but i had to say it anyway.
HT, we love thee! but we must reschedule for another feeding.
I don't think that would get me any sympathy. Hm, I swore I wouldn't be one of those online people bitching about how evil their company was just to have it bite them in the ass . . . . It's really just my division head. The other divisions here in DC have lunches & stuff, I wouldn't say all the time, but occasionally. We get a holiday luncheon. That's it. One of the divisions had a $400 catered lunch for a new guy recently! And this was while we were trying to come up with enough money for a goodbye luncheon for someone in our division! Eh, fuck it. As soon as I win the lottery . . . .
I'm thinking that even if there were such a thing as Satan, he and I would get along just fine.
However, soul and all would only cost him a pot of Prince Edward Island mussels in white wine sauce, with a huge sour dough bagget, and a bottle of BEAUCASTEL JACQUES PERRIN 2001.
Yet another day in the "Great Career Backslide".
WSIHFL?
Cuddles, how about fruit and cheese for a light yet satisfying and yet hangover reducing lunch. The fruit will have lots of purified water and good vitamins and minerals, and the cheese will have enough fat to kick your liver into gear. Dairy products always help me when I'm hung over, although I prefer them in the form of a Jamocha milkshake from Arby's, though that's not really keeping line with getting ready for a wedding.
Cuddles, I think you should go for soup. Something brothy.
With reagrd to HT, is she awake yet? Is she available to do lunch tomorrow?
Hello?
cuddles: gatorade, gatorade, gatorade.
Good question on the gatorade flavors. Fruit punch is my favorite, followed closely by crange and the classic lemon/lime. I NEVER drink anything blue and I too also despise all the extreme flavors.
Anyone remember gatorgum? Best instant flavor and then quickly disappears into nothing. It would make my mouth water like crazy. I loved it! Fruit stripe is probably my favorite, though.
Good morning.
I just got up. It was a long night, kids. Some of you are aware that I had been having issues related to my pain medication and its effects on my digestive tract. Well, I got those under control, but it resulted in a little of a sleepless night. AND, Barney came home last night, so keeping him off my boobs was another battle.
Anyhoo, I don't care what day. Tomorrow or whenever is fine. Just tell me where and when, preferrably in advance, so I can plan on being awake, and I'll magically appear.
And, I don't give a shit what Satan eats. He could win me over with "eat everything you want and stay skinny for life."
I'd be down for a WFL DC crew lunch tomorrow, especially to honor our new and improved hater tot.
I'm going to grab something from the cafeteria, and eat lunch with some of the other newbies around here.
I think Satan would serve me up some surf and turf. Lobster tail and a nice piece of rare meat. But when I told him my soul is not for sale he'd probably turn it into a tuna fish sandwich and one of those "burgers" they used to serve in the school cafeteria. yech!
1. Classic Lemon Lime
2. Fruit Punch
3. Orange
I don't touch any of the other flavors.
I LOVED Gatorgum it was pretty big at ELHS when it first came out. I'd chew it at Track meets.
I used to love sour lemon candy.
Where's HT?
LT have you called her?
There she is!
Lunch tomorrow then.
Morton's?
Mortons? Jo, are you paying? Can we downgrade a bit...
And, Gatorgum was great. I liked whatever the red flavor was. But that can be said about most things. Like this red jello that I'm eating, that is either cherry or black cherry, but really, I can't tell the difference in the premade varieties.
Good job on the bowels, HT! Oh, and that is the perfect satan response. I am so jealous I didn't come up with it first.
Gatorgum came out waaaaaaay before highschool, Jo. Where were you? Are you talking about those atomic sour bombs they sold at Mad Dog? I freakin' lived for those things after lunch.
I think there were other flavors, cuddles. Orange seems vaguely familiar to me, too.
I like the original lemon-lime gatorade. Especially when I'm hungover. The others have waaaaaay too much flavour for a nauseated stomach. Lemon-lime is pleasingly watery. Aaaaah.
God I went through a gatorgum period. It would hit you right in that tingly spot at the back of your jaw! So good! Jade, have you had fruit stripe lately? I bought some a couple of years & was highly disappointed. If you haven't, don't get it. It's better in the memories. :-( Still tastes good, but for only like 30 seconds. Then it just hurts your jaw while you're trying to chaw it.
My favorite Gatorade flavor was starfruit. And, I especially liked it in those bottles that are like, well, baby bottles. I used to stop and get a bottle every morning at the Beer Liquor Food (yes that was the name of the store) when I lived in CA, before the drive to work. It joined my morning Diet Coke, since it was a long commute. I'd start with the Gatorade, and stroll into work just in time to finish up the Diet Coke.
There is a mango gatorade that they market to latinos, Gatorade Es Extremo!!! Its pretty good, tastes surprisingly a lot like mangos. After that its just the classic lemon lime.
And gator-gum was fantastic. Loved that shit. Not sure how gum could quench anything, but nice concept.
HT, I was being facetious about Morton's, didnt you say you'd be wearing sweats? I'm down for whatever. Liquid lunch?
Jade, I have a really bad memory, maybe I'm thinking of 7th grade summer track, or maybe I'm just ALOT younger than you...They sold the sour bomb things in the school store (what was it called?). I do remember bringing sour lemon candy and starbursts to Mr. Bennet's class everyday. I loved that class.
Cuddles, The citrus flavor was good. And who didn't want to be like Mike? I hate all the ICE and crazy mixed flavors the kids are drinking today.
In college I lived off Arizona Iced Tea. Yesterday I saw an Arizona Watermelon juice/drink. Why?
Remember that gum that would squirt when you bit into it? I used to looooove that gum. What was it, anyway? Just like corn syrup or something. I also had a big thing for the 2-flavour gum from Bubblicious I think? The one that had like lemon inside & lime outside or banana inside & strawberry outstide. God, those were good. I spent many a summer making extensive comparisons of different gum flavours. There will always be a special place in my heart & olfactory nerves for watermelon Hubba Bubba.
Isn't Arizona Iced Tea the one you're not supposed to drink b/c the proceeds benefit the KKK or something?
And, Jo, do you not know me at all? I would wear sweats to Mortons without a second thought. I'm more concerned with cost. Oh, and it'd be good if it wasn't buffet and they brought the food to us, as standing for too long and trying to balance things is still kind of a chore.
I loved that cinnamon squirt gum...
If Arizona Iced Tea was for the KKK then I was a Grand Wizard in college. I may have joined up if I had known. But that was then, now I'm all about the "Half & Half" Iced tea and lemonade by that other company.
We can have lunch wherever you want HT. Let's save Morton's till after the next payday.
Cuddles it sounds like you need a relish tray tonight...
I need details on a relish tray, please.
Satan might get me with a good relish tray.
Feel free to skip to the last line for the gist.
I think I’ve told the story about how I fell asleep on the train, missed my stop and woke up @ 91st and Cottage Grove. I asked the conductor where I was, he told me and said it was the last train until morning. So, I, in my infinite genius, get off the train. Bad move. I was forty blocks from home and in a part of town that, well, I sensed I should not be in right then. So I go out and kind of sneak around in the bushes around the train station. Looking up and down the streets. Scoping out a place to sleep until the trains start running again. Then that nice lady, “T” I believe, spotted me. “What the FUCK are you doing here?” “I fell asthleep on duh tchrain.” “Come on, Baby. You can’t stay out here. My cousin drives a cab. I’ll call him.” We went to a house where some people were hanging out in the back yard. She told me not to talk to anyone and that if anyone asked I was “her boy” from the hotel. No one said a word to me while she went inside to call her cousin. T waited with me for about 20 minutes on the front porch until the cab got there, all the while trying to sell me various narcotics and orifices. (I told you she was nice.) Anyway, I made it home, and T is forever my angel. (I gave her $20…for pure hospitality.)
Well, that was after a night of drinking with a guy I’ll call “Soup.” A former co-worker, and just plain old trouble. I loves me some Soup, but something about that kid gets me really fucked up. I can only handle him in infrequent doses. The train sleep episode was about four years ago and I didn’t go out drinking with Soup again until the following summer. I think we went to a ballgame and then I don’t know what else. What do you know? I got blitzed out of my head. Somehow, however, I remembered that I should not try to make it home after a night out with Soup, because that’s how I end up @ 91st and Cottage Grove. So I says, Soup, I’m crashing out on your floor. Soup has the nastiest apartment I’ve ever seen (until mine these days, that is). Nevertheless, I crash out directly on Soup’s hardwood floor, shoes on, no pillow, for maybe three hours, which probably made it about 8 a.m. when I awoke. The light coming through the east facing window was too much, so I struggled to my feet and made it out of the apartment and building, and then out into the street. I wander for a bit and try to get my bearings, deducing from street signs that I am on the corner of Broadway and Waveland. My head was pounding pounding pounding and felt like it was 150 degrees. There’s a 7-11 on that corner, which I went into. The only thing, and this is why I’m telling you this story today – I’m not proud…or tired – that I could think of was orange Gatorade. So I went in and bought a 32 ouncer with crumpled bills. I didn’t even wait for change. I walked out and stood on the sidewalk amidst the jogging joggers and strolling babies. I uncapped the cool elixir and raised it toward my lips. My eyes ached as they trained upward towards the cloudless blue sky. An inch from my mouth, something inside me made me change the plan. My body was asking for something else and would not be denied. My arm continued to raise the bottle right past my mouth and proceeded to pour 32 ounces of cold orange Gatorade directly onto my head. My mouth smiled.
I like orange.
I go with a GOOD baked potato, but otherwise I think you nailed the devil's lunch, jade.
A relish tray is an assortment of meats, chesses and pickled vegetables, usually olives or pickles.
Yeah Jade your Devil's lunch was spot on except I'd go with the fatty well seasoned ribeye. good temp though, just to the left of med. rare.
I believe that was Freshen Up, LT.
Wow, Dipso that's a hell of a story. Cuddles, the relish tray sounds amazing. I would consider the devil's bargain if I could have a good salami-cheese plate with some nice crusty bread & italiano vino. Not the type that's been imported to the States with the sulfites - the good shit with no hangover. Oooh, or even better than the relish plate - a muffalatta from N'awlins. Anyone had one of those? It's like a relish tray in a big sandwich. (minus ranch & hummus). God it's good. I might have to try to make one this weekend.
Oh, and f*** me, my office meeting got postponed at the last minute. I could have seen the new HaterTits!
don't ever eat a muffaletta outside of new orleans.
spoilssport, you "lost" the mr. misty?.
I second what Jo said. However, I am going to work on creating the best muffalatta outside of N.O.
Wichita??
I've only had one muffalata...in Milwaukee. It was delish!
Milwaukee?!?
Heathens!
Oh my god, the olive stuff on a good mufaletta in NOLA ... delish!
I'm going to have to make a relish tray. I want a variety of meats, some cheese, gherkins, a couple different olives, roasted and marinated red pepper strips, asparagus wrapped in prosciuttio, bread rounds and crackers. Oh yeah, I WANT that. Ace'll eat it too, which is always a major bonus.
I just ordered the #9 Italian night club from jimmy John's with chips and a coke. I expect it to be here in 2.3 minutes.
Oh and Jo, the name of the ELHS store was Mad Dog. I said that before you even asked.
I don't understand those of you who live in worlds without relish trays. They were a weekend staple in the HaterTot household growing up.
Gardenburger and swiss, no bun for lunch. Trying to decide what to cook for dinner.
Yes the Mad Dog. I wonder if that is still there...
Dipso - helluva story killer, sounds like you know how to have a good time.
HT - mom's was a relish tray fanatic as well .. so now we all love pickled herring, smoked salmon, white fish, olives (the good ones ... not the crap green ones), sweet gherkins .... mmmm.
Today was Mai's #63. Vietnamese goodness. Sweet rice dish with BBQ beef, fresh veggies, and pork cake.
Cheers
No relish trays in my family growing up. But we always had some form of cake or pie or fresh cookies. And of course an obscene amount of candy that would put most families Halloween selection to shame. No family on Earth eats as much candy as my family does collectively.
A couple years ago I went to my mom's and she was troubled because she had a single mouse living in her kitchen and it would get into her bread drawer and deface all her bread, pop tarts, little debbies, etc. She had set up a trap, but had used a pair of juje fruits for bait. I laughed at her and asked her if she was kidding about trying to kill the mouse. She was genuinely confused and told me, "but if I was a mouse I would want the juje fruits. Wouldn't you?" I re-baited it with a dab of peanut butter and had one dead mouse by morning.
Have you ever had pickled garlic? My mom had some once a long time ago & loved so she decided to pickle some herself. I was up in my room with a friend who stayed the night before we drove back to school & I was thinking to myself "Woah, chica, that is some funky breath. What did you have for lunch, an onion sandwich?" But no, it was the garlic cooking & pickling away on the stove in vinegar. And this guy was coming over to pick us up to go have dinner. And not just any guy. A guy I was hoping at the time would become more than. I basically tackled him before he could come in the house. I was so embarrassed. Thanks, Mom! I resented that g.d. garlic so much, I never had any, so I can't tell you how it was.
Not sure if it is the same as "pickled garlic" but I have eaten "white" garlic which is sold in jars. It doesn't give you the bad garlic breath and is very very good.
