Snow Day my sweet patootie!

It's beautiful out in DC. Again. Yes we did get some snow, but the roads were never perilous, and the I was driving around with my windows down all day yesterday. Yet the streets of Georgetown were near empty on Sunday, and today several area school districts and businesses are closed or have a "two hour delay". This is ridiculous. Most of all it's ridiculous beacuse I'm at work...

Not sure if any of you watch the L Word, but the beginning of last night's episode brought back all sorts of 80's warm and fuzzy memories.

Which brings me to lunch. After a weekend of huge delicious sandwiches I will be doing something different today. Meeting the missus (who's off from work) at Whole Foods for lunch and V-Day dinner shopping. Rico seems to hit Whole Foods all the time for lunch so I'm semi-excited. More so about about tomorrow's dinner, (the menu has not yet been decided, but I will share it when it is).

Speaking of dinner menus, I believe Jack has one from this weekend that she should share, sounds like it was delicious.

So anyway, WFL?

I have a half a burrito bowl from CA Tortilla leftover from like Thursday. Not sure I'm in the mood for it, though. I might have to go get a melty sandwich somewhere. But where? Hm, maybe a steak & cheese. That would be good today. Except for the going-out part.

This week will suck. Fucking Valentine's Day (VD). Ugh. I was thinking about inviting myself to my parents' house for dinner tomorrow night as my temporary roommate is out of town, but maybe they have dinner plans. But probably not, knowing how cheap my dad is. Hm! Whatever. There will be Olympic-watching for sure.

Fucking snow. Couldn't wait until Sunday night so I could get a snow day. And I still don't have carpeting. Grrrrrr.

Well, I'll be recovering yet again, from a weekend of feasting. I spent the "snow storm of '06" out in Gainesville, VA drinking and eating as if I needed to store up fat to survive the blizzard. Saturday night it was a deep dish mexican pizza...basically it's taco fixin's spread on top of fresh baked cornbread with melted cheese all over it...fabulous...and sunday just to top it off...steak and cheese sandwich (NOT made with those weird steakum things...used thin sliced rib-eye from the korean market)with a fried runny egg and bacon on top and a side of pig-in-the blankets. Sooo...today I'll be having some vegetable soup that I made last night and a salad.

I'm eating lunch as we speak because I am hungry and I have a 1:30 Dr.'s appointment. Lunch is leftover fajita innards from LaChoi's and my adventures in the suburbs, which included dinner at Chili's. Though, this could have been a bad idea since the meal last night made me digestively uneasy. We shall see.

It's cold here, but no snow. I'd like some chicken and potatoes so I might have to go to my old stand by Metropolis.

HT, don't ever eat at Chili's, that place is rank. The rankest rank of all chain restaraunts, except for maybe Chi Chi's.

Jack, your menu sounds divine. You can cook for me any time.

Josephus said...

Sounds good Jack.

Chili's HT?

Nice work Saturday, Jack.

It’s weird. I’ve been thinking about lunch a lot lately. I’ll probably keep it light. Salad maybe. I feel like some protein, though. Cheap would be good.

No snow in our little burg, but it’s freaking cold.

Thanks for the reminder, Jo. I’m making myself a steak tomorrow. I used to do steak-ums as a kid, with cream cheese and onions. Oh, that actually sounds good.

Chicago OWFLL this week?

Jada said...

Yes Dipso, on the Chicago OWFLL. Rico and I are in LP, though. Is spoilsport down for a little lunchy-lunch? Early is better for me of course, but I am reasonably flexible.

The Doctor said...

Flexibility is good.

I can hop the red line if need be. Tues and Thurs are good days for me, Thurs best. Friday's out, and I should probably toss out Wednesday, as well. We can plan off blog.

Josephus said...

No dice Chicago.

What about Brian?

HaterTot said...

Chi Chi's reminds me of high school. We used to skip class and go there to "study". But all the Chi Chi's in Pittsburgh closed due to an unfortunate Hepatitis C (I think) incident at one local mall restaurant.

Last night was probably the second or third time I've ever been to a Chili's in my life.

HaterTot said...

Jo, why are you getting involved in the Chicago OWFL lunch planning process?

Josephus said...

HT, dipso jumped on jade's "flexible" comment which was tailor made for one of my sly witty remarks. In return, I felt the need to get involved with Chicago's WFLL.

Josephus said...

I used to dig Don Pablo's in College.

HaterTot said...

Jo - stop micromanaging/instigating. You cause trouble where there needn't be any.

Dipso - I love Don Pablo's, though I haven't been for years. Well, once, but I've put that out of my mind.

HaterTot said...

I don't know why I thought Dipso was the DP fan. (now Jo, here is a good place for a "witty" comment)

The Doctor said...

You're slippin', Jo.

I didn't say anything about Don Pablo's.

The Doctor said...

Ended up with italian from Pot Belly's. Ev, Hev Mayo/Hot Peppers. Mac salad, for which I forgot to get a utensil...but I think I have some chopsticks in my drawer. Certainly some pencils.

WARNING to all OWFL'ers: Rico is a sly dog, DO NOT TRUST HIM!

Jada said...

What is this article on email, Cuddles or Rico? I am very curious.

happy lunching all!

Hey DC WFLrs...can anyone suggest a decent place for HH near (preferably walking distance) to the Library of Congress?

Josephus said...

Watch it HT.
That was nowhere near instigation.

What happened to Jack Sullivan's?

Went through the extensive salad bar at whole foods. I got way too many onion based things. Feeling it.

Lady A said...

Thanks E-que! I'll be heading down in that direction for a drink or two around 5 if anyone wants to dip out of work to grab a libation for the ride home!

Oh, and love your pic...I really want a quesa-dilla now!

Steak sandwich today. The steak (even after being in the fridge) was so tender I really didn't need a knife.

Damn I'm good.

Mrs. Jack, I worship your culinary skills and need recipes immediately if not sooner. Wasn't someone in charge of that? Jo?

Regardless, TexEsq and I went to Cafe Rabelais on Saturday night. I went in earlier that day when I was shopping for gifts (I got her a haircut and massage at the spa in the Rice Village and $150 to Anne Taylor) and the wine steward, who looks just like Darius Rucker, gave me a hard time asking about reservations. The transaction went,(him) "We don't take reservations except on special occaisions like valentines day." (me) "Can you do it tonight." (him) "Its not Valentines day, thats on Tuesday." (me putting hands on hips and taking SuperHeroStance(tm))"Thank you Capt. Obvious .. you have saved the day again."

He laughed, I got a table at 8pm. He called me while we were in transit @ 7:39. DAMNIT!! When we got there (this cafe only seats ~40 people plus a bar) the line was out the door. He grabbed us and put us in the corner. Many evil eyes on us. Then we had:

1 bowl of PEI mussels in white wine sauce
1 serving of Escargo
1 $70 bottle of Bourgeon region Pinot Noir

After that they plied us with the dishes but because the kitchen was rushing we weren't able to take the 2+ hours to eat everything (plus the bagette is like pastry there .. the crust is fabulous ... and dipping it in the sauces of the afore mentioned dishes ... washing it down with wine that tasted like cherries and white chocolate .... mmmmmm).

So we settled on the french silk pie and espressos (served with the sugar cube like god intended).

So Valentine's day is over.

Unicorn, what brings you to my neck of the woods? On the Senate side, there's Lounge 201 and Union Pub, which used to be Red River. But, go with E-Que's suggestion about Cap Lounge. LaChoi and I drove by last night, but I was too stuffed with Chili's to consider it. For a more ecclectic Hill experience, you could try Remingtons (gay cowboy bar) or any of the 8th street place. But, I'll heartily recommend Cap Lounge. So good to have it back. Oh, and there's also the 18 amendment, owned by the Pour House folks, on Penn between 6th and 7th, though I haven't been yet.

HT - I'm going to see a play about Abe Lincoln...'featuring' Liam Neeson and Holly Hunter at the LOC..random...anyways...so I'm heading down there pre-performance with the mister.

Josephus said...

What do you think Honest Abe liked for lunch?

Jada said...

I bet Abe would have liked giant burritos with sour cream, if they had been available. I bet he wouldn't have even been squeamish about watching ladies eat them. Do you realize he was 6-4? That is just ridiculously tall for that time period. I love Lincoln so much I used Abraham for my son's middle name.

I generally hate all the chain restaurants with the crazy crap on the walls ("Wow! Look how old those skis are!" "Holy cow! It's a tin beer sign! No way!"). The last time I went to Ruby Tuesday's (1995) I got food poisoning. From (and yes, I am well aware of what a bad choice this was) clam chowdah. Despite being in the bathroom all night, it didn't put me off clam chowdah, just Ruby Tuesday.

When I was a frosh in college I had my wisdom teeth out over Thanksgiving. I couldn't really eat solid food for like a week (all 4 out at once - 2 were impacted), so the following Friday a couple of girls were like "Let's go to Chili's" & we got there & I was like "Do you have any broth?" I wound up eating (sort of trying to chew with my front teeth) vegetable soup & someone didn't want their croutons from their salad, so I sucked on them until they got all mushy. What a depressing meal. On the other hand, it was probably one of my cheaper meals ever (except for the time I had $5 in my bank account & I took my friend to Taco Smell before my sorority semi-formal.)

In college a couple of friends & I went to Applebee's, where one of them goes "I'm kind of thinking about apple juice now". Which they don't have. WTF?!? You call yourself Applebee's & you don't have apple juice? Ugh. I haven't been there since 1995 or 1996. Yay me! Ten years, baby!

I used to get the Fried Chicken Salad at T.G.I.Friday's.
Hot bacon dressing.

Last time was in '96 I believe.

HT and i did venture to the chili's in yonder arlington, va after a frolicking good time at this gigante target out there. however, it seemed that the vultures had already cleaned the place out. but i did happen to get a cute pair of shoes and some soft bathroom towels that are made 50% with bamboo...intriguing.

i have to say that HT and i left chili's feeling quite full. so full that i ended up blowing ass all evening....god, i was so gassy.

but dammit, i love that awesome blossom.

i ended up eating split pea soup for lunch and then had to deal with the most IRRITATING work related issue ever. i want to go drink now.

I woke up from beautiful xanax induced sleep just now, after having my stitches removed (eff that - it motherfucking HURT) and all I can think is, "I want Maggie Moos RIGHT NOW". Anyone want to come pick me up and take me to Maggie Moos???

LizTurtle said...

HT - I would love to, but I have to go to the gym (moo) & then go home on metro. It would be at least 8 before I could get to you - and that's without a shower. Sorry! :-( Hm, and I'm also sorry I didn't get to see Frankentits. Shudder.

I doubt that Cosi or Potbelly or whatever is any cleaner or anything than Friday's or Tuesday's or whatever. I don't know. I used to drink underage at this one Friday's, so I sort of associate it with underage stupidity & would never choose that place to go to first. I think a lot of the Friday's/Tuesday's disgust stems from 'Office Space'. "I don't really like to talk about my flair." Also that episode of the Simpson's where Mo's made his bar into a restaurant "with a bunch of crazy crap on the walls!" Hm. If it weren't for the Olympics, I'd go home & watch Office Space. Apres-gym, of course.

HaterTot said...

I just left a message for LaChoi explaining that I NEED Maggie Moo's like a pregnant lady in her third trimester. She is my savior.

BUT, we are in need of food, as well. So, we're going to hit up Angles for 1/2 price burgers. Who's with us? Jo? E-Que? Unicorn?
