Stress reducing lunch ideas?

As some of you may have noticed I have been absent lately from our Blog. This is not by choice. I have been wandering around like a lost puppy trying to figure out lunch ideas on my own. It's not fun. It's a cruel lunch world out there filled with people trying to steer you in the wrong direction.

Anyhow, I'm back (albeit briefly) and I need your help. Since I am super stressed out right now due to work (major presentation next week), moving into a new apartment tomorrow, planning my honeymoon, and trying to buy x-mas gifts, I really need a stress reducing lunch idea. Is there such a thing as a stress reducing lunch? Thoughts?

I was going to google “John Lennon’s favorite food,” but I think I’ll just assume that it was leftover spinach salad with jerk chicken and orange poppy seed vinaigrette.

Stress relieving lunch. I'll give that some thought. No I won't. Sorry, CSR. I'm sure some of the other brilliant minds around will have some ideas.

(I bet that Lennon's favorite food thing IS googleable. Also, note to WFLers - Dipso MUST GET WORK DONE TODAY!!! If you see me overblogging, knock me down.)

Comfort food, csr. Meatloaf, mac and cheese, stew, pork chops, soup, pie... You want food that will envelope you and remind you of the days when all you had to worry about was where you mislaid your transformer.

whenever i want to reduce stress, i also turn to comfort foods. my favorite comfort food is a good ole hamburger with swiss cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms. and don't forget the french fries. i like to dip mine in both ketchup AND mayo.

Ok, one more and then I’m out. The heat is still not fucking working here! This is unbelievable! To be walking toward your office and all you hope is that there’s heat at work. I told a co-worker that I felt like Bob fucking Cratchet. She laughed and said, “Wait, was he from Seinfeld?”

As long as she laughed, I guess.

Sorry, CSR, but I lied. I did give it some thought. Maybe try a turkey sandwich for the serotonin boost.

Yes, ethics and la choi got it right, comfort food is key. I'm waxing nostalgic for grilled cheese and tomato soup. Or maybe something involving mashed potatoes. If I really need a stress reducing lunch and I have the extra time, I'll run down the street and get a pedicure. Nothing like pampering the tootsies to boost my spirits. But somehow I just think that is not really applicable in your case.

I almost forgot. There was a dispute last night between some WFL'ers regarding how to correctly pronounce Josephus' name. Oh Jo, could you provide us with a pronunciation key and illuminate us?

HaterTot said...

Oooohhh... good get on the mashed potatoes. OR tater tots... and a grilled cheese and tomato soup...

Apparently I'm hungry. I have no food in my house (shocking).

I guess I could go to the office and get food near there. That seems like such hard work though...

Oh, and dipso: John Lennon's favorite foods, according the internet, were: corn flakes, bread and vegetarian dishes.

Tater tots! Yes! I remember the discovery of tater tots at the hot lunch line in grade school was the ultimate lunch making moment. Some things never change.

corn flakes? bread? vegetarian dishes? for a music legend, his favorites are BOOOOORING!

mmm, now i want grilled cheese with tomato and tomato basil bisque soup with tater tots on the side. where can i find that around here? i have no clue.

After most softball games last summer, the team would go to Lottie’s (Bucktown somewhere…Cortland, I think). And every single time, my buddy would say, “They’ve go the best tater tots. You’ve got to get the tater tots.” And EVERY SINGLE TIME they were out of tater tots! I’m talking about maybe 10 trips. So, I guess what I’m saying is, if you want some really good tater tots, Lottie’s is the place to go, except they don’t have tater tots.

I love the basement at Lottie's [Cortland and Winchester, I think] for parties and drinking, but I've never eaten there. I didn't even realize they served food let alone were the mecca of tater tots. I must return.

Where is Jo?

Just leave work, and go to Tonic, lachoi.

The last time I was in Chicago, I went to some nondescript bar w/ rico, jo and spoilsport and they had tater tots. Does every bar in chicago have tater tots? Is this a Chicago "thing"?

Jo's IM thing-a-ma-bob has said he's "Busy" all morning... Very mysterious, indeed.

The Doctor said...

I think he's trying to figure out how to pronounce his name.

i cannot run to tonic since i already have to leave early to head up to nyc for the vintage prom and fundraiser my sister is throwing. she's all scared that no one is going to come, so if you have nyc friends, please pass on the word! you don't necessarily have to dress up, though you should because it's just more fun that way.

i will have to settle for 2 out of 3, which is grilled cheese at breadline and abp for some sort of tomato soup action. it's another 2 stop lunch for la choi today.

Just got out of a 4 hour meeting. I need stress relieving food and or activity...

Joe-see-fuss

I'm feeling very discombobulated right now.

Now, is that how YOU pronounce it, Magneto?

Apple suace really works well, so long as its laced with valium. Otherwise how about a steam cup of hot chocolate. Put a little whip cream on top, or those little marshmallows. I love those little marshmallows in hot chocolate, though i don't really like marshmallow.

i had a salad for lunch, which is becoming my comfort food i suppose

See Mel Brooks' "History of The World Part 1" for the correct pronounciation of Josephus.

I'm feeling off. I need a V-8.

a lunch success WFLers. i went to breadline and they had not only a grilled cheese with blue and i think gruyere but one of their special soups today was saffron tomato soup! the lunch stars aligned today.

but i did pay dearly out of my pockets for this lunch: $12!!! it didn't count as a soup & sandwich combo b/c it is considered a "special" sandwich. thank god i didn't go for the belgian pomme frits to sub for the tator tots, or i could've been looking at a lunch costing close to $20! absurd!

oh but i am dipping the grilled cheese into the tomato soup right now...and it's DAMN good.

I was convinced it was "JOE-suh-fuss" but I was wrong wrong wrong! I don't like being wrong.

I so admire La Choi's dedication to lunch and the multiple stops she is willing to make.

I just made some coffee for boss because his secretary is on vacation. When I added the four Splenda's he requires it foamed up. I found that alarming. What's wrong with good old fashioned sugar? I am opposed to artificial sweetners on principle, but the foaming actually made me feel a little queasy.

I had creamy peanut butter and peanuts on one slice of 9 grain, folded in half.

It's all I could find.

That won't do at all.

I just enjoyed a delicious smoked ham and provolone sandwich on french bread with mayo and lettuce from Metropolis. My tomato was tinged in green so I had to throw that sucker to the side. A delightful cup of chicken noodle rounded out today's lunch. I am very satisfied. Plus, my boss bought today. Gotta love that.

Just got this email:

"We have been informed by the building engineers that it is not likely the temperature problems in the north side of the office will be corrected by tomorrow. As a result, a decision has been made to close our office tomorrow, Friday, December 9.

To the extent you have work that you need to complete this week, please do so today. Please plan to report to work on Monday, December 12 for business as usual. Thank you for your patience as these temperature issues are addressed. Please let me know of questions."

It's like my couch has a magnet and the only thing it attracts is my ass.

I am starving, and totally unsatisfied with the peanut butter. I probably have a ticket on my car (again).

Oh, and I should have gone to work today, but I never did.

Soon, lunch will be a memory b/c I'm going to be unemployed and broke.

What's a slacker to do????

Does anyone use any of those grocery delivery services? We use one at work, but I'm thinking about getting it at home. Then I'll have lunch fixin's delivered all the time.

I think I'm going to give up on anything approximating lunch today, and grab a burger later at Sinecure's party.

I also love when the girl's father opens up the cage and starts tossing the dead birds out the window. "Freeeeeeee! Freeeeeeeee!!!!"

I really need to go get my Turkey Tuscano now. Wonder if they could put a little honey mustard on that bad boy for me.
