I’m looking forward to my half leftover Briammi Kefte sandwich (ground lamb and beef, grilled veggies and crumbled feta) and some red pepper and feta pasta salad from the bakery/café, Artopolis, over on Halsted in Greektown. Nice place. My dining companions were also impressed with their chicken salad and portabella mushroom sandwiches. Both soups were very tasty (cream of potato and garlic, and chicken lemon and rice). Topped off with a fine tiramisu for the table. Service was slow, but I think they were understaffed and unprepared for such a 12/26 rush. I recommend it.

I love Greektown, we should add a place to our survey for the conference. I am more partial to The Greek Isles or Kostas [I think that's the spelling] but they are all pretty good. No flaming cheese? I love that.
I'm hungry. No real breakfast for me today, just tea in an ice cold office. Not sure what I'm feeling today, maybe some chicken and red skin potatoes from Metropolis.
Lester, that sounds divine. You're making me crave Greek food, but that's not on the agenda today. I think today might be a pierogies day. I need to consult with my dad.
I had cereal this morning. This is notable because I never, ever eat cereal. I refuse to buy it because I think it's ridiculously overpriced and not very healthy at all. However, my father does not subscribe to such beliefs. So I had a bowl of Special K Red Berries. As weird as that shit is, I must admit that I liked it. I liked it - but I don't trust it.
How many WFLers are working today?
I'm working.
Adding a Greektown venue to the survey is a good idea. I'm not familiar enough with most of them to make an informed suggestion. I tend to like them all.
How do they do that chicken and spuds?
I crave froot loops sometimes. But only the red, orange and yellow ones -- that's how it was growing up, and that's the way it should be. Milk and lester don't get along so good anymore though. So, froot loops and soy milk? Something doesn't jibe there.
Our greek town is pretty stellar, just about any of them are good bets.
The chicken is rotisserie and pretty good even if the portions are small. It also comes with 2 sides. I like the red skin potatoes, they are just roasted with flat leaf parsley. I am also partial to the brocolli or cauliflower or the mediterranean salad as sides, but I think today I might get some soup. The checken noodle there is special, but I think their navy bean stinks which is a shame because I love a good bean soup.
It is still freezing in here. I'm hungry, but I want to hold off until at least 12.
Fruit Loops and Vanilla soy milk could be okay.
In college, I used to eat dry fruit loop/spray cheese sandwiches. They were surprisingly tasty. Of course, I never ate this treat without the benefit of being high, so I can't vouch for it outside of those circumstances.
We're going to need to expand the conference to a week to fit in all of these places! We're going to need a traveling vomitorium.
Froot loops and spray cheese sandwiches? OK that is just wrong on so many levels. And being a chese snob, I think spray cheese should be outlawed.
I'm working, but have a cold and will probably cut out early. First I think i'll hit CVS for some meds, have a nice lunch, come back to the office and tell my supervisor i'm heading out on account of being sick. That way it will at least appear that I put in a half day's work or so.
Probably will hit the gourmet buffet and pick items that will help to fight this cold. Lots of vitamins and shizzole
Watchdog, go get yourself some Zicam, preferably the nasal wipe ones. I'm not usually like this and sing the praises of OTC drugs, but Zicam is like a miracle cure.
Thanks for the nose news Jade, i'll check it out. I think its still in the early stages so I may be able to stop it.
I'm a cheese snob too BUT if you don't consider spray cheese to be actual cheese, but rather some sort of space food, then it's a totally different matter.
My Cooking While High culinary fiestas have been some of the most creative, at times vile, but almost always perfectly suited to the occasion. I once made rice krispies treats, but didn't have marshmallows so I used blue peeps that I had in the house (it was around easter).
Ethics you have to meet Coco, she LOVES peeps. I told her about your peeps salad and we are making it come Easter time.
I can't even bring myself to comment on that sandwich, Ethics. But I'm going to be thinking about it for a long long time.
I used to eat peanut butter and hershey's syrup sandwiches.
THE TRADITION LIVES ON!!!! Peeps Salad is GREAT - Coco's going to LOVE it. But DO NOT use the purple peeps - it turns the salad gray. (I can email you the recipe - or post it here, if other WFLers want it. But I don't have it on this computer)
The problem with using peeps to make rc treats is that it turns out waaaayyy too sweet. Not that I didn't eat it anyway, but still.
I feel I should clarify - the fruit loops/spray cheese sandwiches are like if the fruit loops are crackers, and then you sandwich the "cheese" in between. No bread. That'd just be weird. I'm obviously going to have to whip some up for yinz guys at the conference!
SS - I thought about you Xmas night and how I forgot to get your number. Of course, I was so out of it on xmas, there was no way I could've made it out to Y'town to drink wine! I hope it was fun.
I need to shower and change out of the pjs I've had on for 3 days. I'm so slovenly.
I GUESS that helps. I had the loops and cheeze on wonder bread.
Yeah, the clarification on the frootloop/spray cheese sandwiches marginally helps. It still turns my stomach though, and I remain steadfast in my refusal to eat spray cheese.
I'm telling you they're great! (as I recall)
Hey, MJ was on Oprah yesterday, but I missed it. I'm assuming this was the episode where Rico got his groove on for Mr. Jordan and Ms. Winfrey?
I'm still feeling the effects of too much Maker's Mark on Christmas night.
All this greek talk has me thinking gyros for lunch today. Maybe a chicken gyro just to be different.
Today I opted for a hometown/childhood favorite. Isley's chipped ham (I can't explain why it's different than shaved ham; it just is), smoked turkey, and provolone on a Mancini's hard roll with Miracle Whip, yellow mustard, a green onion, lettuce and tomato. And to drink? Tom Tucker Southern Style Mint Gingerale. (that I've never seen for sale anywhere other than Pittsburgh, so I don't understand the "southern style" bit)
And making today even better - Magnum PI is on - guest starring A MIDGET!!! Yippee!!!
I forgot, there are also hot peppers on that sandwich.
I think I might be getting sick. I finally ventured over to Metropolis and ordered the 1/4 chicken white with a side of pesto sauce instead of the chipotle bbq sauce, red skin potatoes and a mediterranean salad because the soups were icky today. I ate my salad, one tiny potato and about 3 bites of chicken before feeling nauseated and dizzy. My normally ravenous appetite also disappeared, which only happens when I am sick. I want to go home.
Chipped ham? Is that dry and comes in a jar? My mother used to make chipped beef on toast. I think it was a depression era meal that her folks used to make. I've never made it. I should.
And miracle whip?!?! I thought we went over this. I need to get a chart together so I can remember who's what.
Nip it, Jade. Get your body home asap! Have some tea. I think I'll have some tea.
The Jade (practicing for the conference) - take your own advice and get some Zicam. And you need chicken soup! And mint gingerale. I wish I could have these things delivered to you and to watchdog!
I'm actually low fat Hellman's, but dad's a Miracle Whip guy, and it was all we had in the house. I grew up with Miracle Whip, and so even though it's not my preference it tastes like being a little kid.
Chipped Ham - Isley's Chipped Ham, to be precise - is like shaved ham; it's a lunchmeat. But the way it's cut is different. It's like shaved and then chopped up, kind of. I can't really explain it. You'll have to come to the 'burgh some time to experience it.
Creamed chipped beef is another monster altogether. I don't like it.
HOLY SHIT THE MIDGET IS A CAT BURGLAR AND HAS A LITTLE MIDGET SKI MASK!!
THE MIDGET IS KUNG FU FIGHTING!
(and he is fast as lightning...)
There's cinnamon popcorn out there, along with caramel and cheese. Weird.
Also Freedom Silk pie.
1. I am at work, although I wouldn't say I've been working.
2. Special K Red Berries may be the best cereal ever. You can pretend you're being healthy (Special K), but with all the flavour and odd texture of the hard little marshmallows in Lucky Charms (Red Berries).
3. I don't like flat leaf parsley. It always fools me - "Oooh, cilantro! WTF? There's no flavour."
4. I am a cheese snob, too. Spray cheese is some nasty shiznit. I love it.
5. Hellman's wins v. Miracle Whip. Although it tastes like childhood to me, too.
6. 2005 has ended with me failing my exam again. I hate my life and my career. I hate 2005. What a shitty shitty year. Fuck all y'all, 2005!
NOOOOOO!!! I'm so sorry, LT! That sucks Horse Cock! You're entitled to a night of drinking on yours truly. I see many martinis in our future!
You know, I've always said that you're way too cool for your job, maybe '06 is career change year? (though, I'll be bummed to no longer have a friend who's actually an actuary, but you're waaayyy hipper than that)
I just bought flat leaf parsley today. But you're right, no flavor. TheBestFriend and I actually refer to guys (and sometimes girls) who aren't "bad" or anything, but are just bland and "eh" as parsley. There's nothing wrong with them exactly, but there's just no damn flavor.
I like the sound of freedom silk pie. I also like flat leaf parsley. It has flavor, it's just subtle.
Okay, I just now got Freedom Silk Pie. I'm not really much for pie. I mean, it's fine and all, but it's a poor substitute for my beloved cake. Cake is so wonderful. Sweet, delicious white cake. Or red velvet. Or carrot. Anything but chocolate really. Cake, wonderful cake.
Pecan and pumpkin are pretty much the only pies I'll do. What about german chocolate. Admittedly, I haven't had it in a while, but
Oooh -- something's happened in the lady's room. Something BAD. Three building janitor guys just came up and there's a smell. Something backed up. have to leave NOW. clost to vomil.t
Lester, you'll have to report in on what the disturbance was.
I like pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and coconut cream is okay. But I'm not much for any fruit pies.
German chocolate cake is okay, and if I have to have something chocolate, that's okay - the caramely coconut stuff works. But I don't like chocolate very much at all, so if I can avoid it, I do.
