so, on my commute to work this morning, i was acutely aware of some details that made me wonder "are these bad omens that will affect lunch today?" first of all is the dude that i happen to ALWAYS be on the bus with who loves to make 5 cell phone calls en route. he has this annoying southern accent too. this morning, he called to talk to his mother about how he saw some tv program last night on how drugs are so much cheaper at costco. "mom, can you hear me? hello? yes, drugs are way cheaper at costco. you already know that? well, i just thought i'd tell you again that drugs are so much cheaper at costco." shut up buddy. she already knows.
then, i saw a gross dirty condom on the sidewalk as i was walking to the office. also, a woman who was wearing a plaid checkered winter coat with plaid checkered winter skirt both completely different colors and different patterns. another dc fashion disaster.
last but not least was the construction worker dude eating an egg mcmuffin and chewing with his mouth wide open...that of course made me want to vomit.
so, this is what has happened so far. are these bad lunch omens WFLers? also, ethics and i have to go to a stuffy and stupid holiday office luncheon. so it is breaking my asian lunch hommage. damn work.
oh, and my sage advice is DO NOT eat homemade chili for dinner at 10pm and then go to bed. my stomach is yelling at me right now saying "stupid la choi...why have you foresaken me!!!!!!!!"
i think that i will drink heavily at lunch and embarass myself in front of my coworkers. that will hopefully ward off the bad evil omens of the morning.

I was logging on to post. You're good, La Choi.
Anyway...
The movie ticket guy confiscated my leftover Pequods last night!
He told me it was a “health hazard thing”! But how do you berate a movie ticket guy? Well, I did my best. Am I in the right world?
I get into work and there’s a stack of red paper at the receptionist’s desk. I pick one up to discover that I am “cordially invited to 150 North Michigan Avenue’s Holiday Celebration,” where apparently I will be able to “[m]ingle with friends and coworkers, enjoy a sweet and savory buffet and listen to [my] favorite holiday songs.”
It says nothing about being non-transferable. Maybe I’ll give mine to a homeless person. Test this whole holiday spirit thing.
no, unless you are alluding to me excavating my own poop.
La Choi, you are going to have to grab the bull by the horns and take control of your lunch destiny. I suggest having some kind of back up plans in case the work luncheon turns out to be foul.
Someone from my office bought a bunch of coffee from Trader Joe's. When I went to open it up this morning I was overwhelmed with this very strong coffee and fishy odor. It seriously reeked. I perservered because I need my caffeine and had no alternative. Strangely enough, the finished product is quite tasty, completely lacking in any fish overtones and does not resemble the smell of the grounds in any way.
I actually feel a good day coming on. Snow is falling. The cats didn't eat my bagel.
Maybe chili for lunch?
With cheese, onions and sour cream.
Do any Washingtonians know of a good chili place close to Connecticut and K?
Dipso referred to the 150 North Michigan Address. At least 3 WFLers have worked in Chicago's famous Smurfitt Stone Container building. You all may know the building better as the "one from Adventures in Babysitting". A fine film that is essential to any Elizabeth Shue dvd collection.
ethics and i have been told it's time to go over to stuffy lunch place with disgruntled and cynical coworkers. we will post perhaps from the after-party at the abode of ethics. stay tuned.
I hate forced office comradery. HATE.
I'm going to have to drink away the awkwardness.
More later.
I wish the OWFL was around back when I worked in the Adventure's in Babysitting Building. I spent many a lunch hour alone at the Corner Bakery in the Cultural Center.
I used to frequent Ricobene's or the char dog place on Wabash. I also used to hit a little health deli around the corner. Plus the grocer/deli in the Doral bldg.
And when I wanted to splurge I'd go to that place across the streetthat was situated behing the courtyard of that insurance bldg.
And occasional special lunches with Dipso and others at the Berghoff.
My memory is pretty bad.
I miss the Chi.
Dipso, what was the Chinese place a few blocks up on Michigan? "63" or something?
Welcome rosie-que!!
I think la choi and ethics are at a work function.
Wher is e-que today?
65 Chinese. Heavy MSG, but very tasty, and the portion to price ratio is unheard of.
Gourmet Pantry in the Doral. I know I nominated that for a conference destination, but we should discuss. It's more of an historial Josephus location, in my mind. I didn't go there much when you were here. I go a lot more, now. They're good people.
Health Deli = Brian's? I've never had a good experience there.
Well, I guess I'll go grab c-jaxx and check out the savory treats downstairs.
Brian's yes.
I enjoyed it.
The GP was a perfect joint.
Cap Grounds, which serves Boar's Head, has the same deli fare.
I'm hungry. My boss is allegedly bringing me lunch, but he hasn't shown up yet. Peeps are quiet today on the WFL blog. I need some entertainment if I'm not getting my lunch in a timely manner.
Hello WFLers! I have been away having fine meals in San Sebastian & Amsterdam. I had a dinner in San Sebastian of approx. 2 lbs of foie gras. I was in heeeeeaaaaaveeeen. And now I'm back at work, where my fine meal of philly cheesesteak burrito from California Tortilla topped off by alternating Pickapeppa hot sauce (hoooooot!) & some other hot sauce (not so hot) was interrupted by someone wanting some work done. Siiigh. All in a days work. It's going to take me all afternoon to catch up on the past week of lunch bloggery. The other special surprise waiting for me this morning was my new RAM in my computer here. Which appears to have slown down my computer even more. Aaah, good to be home. F'ing "help" desk! Argh!
Um. What are Pequods?
I hit the new Chinatown gourment buffet, Market to Market. Check it out DC WFL'ers if you're ever over here. They have the works, even shrimp salad with whole shrimp, more shrimp than anything else. California rolls and the like. Sliced terriyaki beef. I'm worried that they're going all out as they just opened and may take a step back. But we shall see.
Looking forward to heading home in the freezing rain. Drinks would be preferable to that fo sho!
I am drunk. Party is adjourning to my house.
Will blog more later.
We discussed "How I learned about the birds and the bees" at the work Holiday party.
My boss finally arrived with a bowl of chicken and rice soup and hot bread from Metropolis. It was delicious, but alas simply not enough. I think he is under the impression that I have the appetite of a small girl rather than the strapping lumberjack that I am. I need something more, but I forgot to bring fruit today.
Dipso - who stole your pequods? I think that calls for a serious ass whipping.
Hot roast beef with melted jalapeno cheddar, lettuce tomato onion, horseradish, worcestershire sauce and mayo on a soft sub roll.
e-que sounds like you and liz turtle ate like royalty.
who stole pequods?
Movie theater ticket guy thief stole pequods!
I hit the savory buffet downstairs. There was also cider. I started nibbling and all of a sudden I'd eaten more than half of a cinnamon stick. I don’t feel so good.
We have God’s son’s birthday party lunch tomorrow. (Jeez, talk about spoiled.) Hugo’s Frog Bar. I have yet to secure a menu. I’d like to run it past y’all though. I don't know if frog will be on it or not. Quite possibly. Can we have a quick frog-eating exchange? I have to admit...never had it.
They taste like chicken.
ZING!
I was the first one to say it!
wecome rosie! there's absolutely nothing wrong with southern accents. it was just that dude's southern accent that really really sucked. i think it's just b/c that dude in general sucked. you know i have a soft spot in my heart for southern men...always have and always will.
um, at ethics' house and none of our coworkers really came. everyone here: la choi, ethics, and abs (formerly known as pumpkinsoup). we all predicted this actually. after all, we are the most fun people in this goddam office!
rosie, we contemplated asking you to come over and join in the girlie fun. but yeah, the weather ain't help us much here.
lunch was ok...and yes, i heavily drank. everyone was all polite in ordering iced tea and some pinot grigio. what did la choi order? a bloody mary, of course! duh...i knew i only had a couple of hours to get into it. but they stopped pouring after a while. i guess they knew that my plan was to be "that girl" at the office holiday party who ended up dancing on the tables by the end of the event. they really missed the potential of an awesome show.
ethics, abs, and i are drinking pomogranate martinis and they are spectacularly strong. i have to work at the wine store tonight, so i better act not so drunk when is how up. the customers in dupont will have quite a time tonight!
frog legs to indeed taste like chicken. THey actually taste like deep fried sweet and sour chicken you get from chinese places, only minus the sweet and sour sauce. They unmistakeably LOOK like frogs' legs, so its kinda gross when you think about poor Kermie getting shot execution style (which incidentally is how they kill frogs)
"He's got the whole world in his hands..., "
LaChoi has gotten hold of the Rhapsody.
We're downgrading from spactacularly strong pomegranate martinis to white wine for awhile.
Lunch was fine.
Fuck it. I'm not good at blogging right now.
"If you like making love at midnight!"
