6 Days till X-Mas and my True Lunch Gave to me...

I like my title this morning, but can't figure out how to end it because I don't know what I should get for lunch. Today is my last day of work until January 3rd. Almost too excited to eat. So tell me everyone, with 6 days till Christmas, what do your lunch plans hold for you?

salad salad and more salad. i ate like crap all weekend long: (burgers, pizza, beer, wine, jalapenos stuffed with ooey gooey cheese...so tasty!) my body is craving something healthy. besides, 6 days till x-mas also means 6 days til eating your face off. therefore, my recommendation is eat healthy all week so that you don't feel guilty when you do stuff your gut full of yummy ham, turkey, pies, egg nog, etc.

I am in a similar pickle, csr. And I'm Starvin' Like Marvin.

I gotta go healthy though. I meant to go grocery shopping this weekend, but it was hard to squeeze that in with all the napping. I slept for a combined total of 32 hours this weekend. While it was precisely what I'd planned, by last night, I was wide awake, so I drank a bottle of wine and was up until 3am. Anyway, there was no grocery shopping done this weekend. But tonight is the night. I feel it. I have a hot date with Harris Teeter. Of course, I only have 4 days or something until I'm Pittsburgh-bound, but I have to take groceries with me anyway, since dear old dad keeps less food in the house than I do. I find it's best if I just arrive fully stocked and ready to go. Not that there aren't grocery stores in Pittsburgh - there are, and the best one is called Giant Eagle, which even as a child, having never left the confines of Western PA I realized was a silly name for a grocery store, but as usual, I digress - it's just that I find if I come with the bare essentials (read: wine. meat of some sort. salad things. wine. prescription medication.) I can at least make myself something the night that I arrive, whereas otherwise, I'd be SOL. Anyhoo, the point is, Ethics has a date with the 'Teet tonight. And it's healthy livin from here on out, with a few scheduled transgressions including the DC WFL lunch on Thursday, a trip to my beloved Primantis while at home, and possibly another to Pierogies Plus.

Speaking of the DC WFL crew, it was good to see such a strong showing Friday night at Bravo and then Big Hunt, and even later at the after hours storming of LaChoi's other place of business. Abs and I hit up the Wrapworks on our way home, and I rediscovered the wrap with the steak and mashed potatoes. Freakin' Brilliant, people! Though, I don't much like the spinach tortilla, but whatever. I was impressed at the team's ability to keep the rabble-rousing to a minimum, considering the happy hour tequila shots, which usually doesn't end so well. Bravo, WFLers!

All of this does not solve my immediate problem of no lunch for today. I'm thinking salad from ABP. Possibly soup. It's hard to say.

As always, I will keep you overly informed.

I have boss #1, #2 and #3. #2 just popped in to tell me that #3 would be giving me my performance review in the next day or two, but #2 just couldn’t keep it contained that I will probably “be happy with [my] compensation change this year.”

Cha-ching?

Would it be bad juju to splurge on lunch today?

Unknown said...

lester, i'm going to say that you should splurge on lunch regardless. however, since i am somewhat superstitious, i'd say wait until the review and the final "compensation" bonus #s. then you can confidently eat like a lunch king without fear of cursing yourself.

HaterTot said...

Congrats Lester! I am in a similar situation, though I've been briefed on some of the details of my compensation changes. However, I don't believe in jinxes, and despite the raise not kicking in until January, I'm spending it like I have it already. As such, I have AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

ETHICS IS COMING TO CHICAGO

I'm clearly an insane person. I arrive at O'Hare tomorrow night at 8:40, and have a departing flight at 6am the next day. Obviously, I need to be better medicated. But, what I need from the Chicago team is info on how to get from the airport to the bar. I can take the (is it "L"? or El? I've always wondered) right?

Unknown said...

if i had money, i would be accompanying ethics to meet the chicago WFLers. but alas, i am an underling in this org. i have my performance review in 20 minutes and fear what they will say. no increase in compensation for me.

oh, i wish i were a millionaire so that i could eat lunch in all parts of the world that have delicious foods. i would be the fattest and happiest person alive.

The Doctor said...

This is momentus.

Madame President cannot take public transportation! We make arrangements off-blog.

I was recently reviewed and got high marks too, but unfortunately that translates too very little in raise category. But its all about the slap on the back and money isn't important, right? uh who am I kidding.

Anyhoo, La Choi has it right. Eatin' healthy this week cuz lord knows the weekend was a bust and certainly this coming weekend will be even more gluttonous. Better get out the ol' "eatin' pants" with the elastic waist band.

Ethics,

On your advice i just hit Eat First, and got the General Tso's Tofu. Despite my adversion to all things soy, I must say I am pleasantly surprised. Good recommendation.

One question:
Does tofu count as healthy if its deep fried and covered in yummy (and probably high-cal) sauce?

HaterTot said...

Watchdog, I'm so pleased you finally made it over to Eat First! I'm glad you enjoyed the GTT. I would say that it's not "healthy", exactly, but you're still getting all the benefits of tofu, like how it eases the symptoms of menopause b/c it closely mimics estrogen in your system. Oh, wait - nevermind. Uh... I'd say it's not the unhealthiest thing ever, and you'll eat worse before the week is over.

Still haven't gotten lunch. Thinking of skipping it to conserve my meager funds for tomorrow. That's probably a horrible idea. I may scavenge the kitchen, rather than eat healthy, since any concept of healthiness will undoubtedly be blown tomorrow night.

Ethics is on her way to Chicago! Wooooohooooooo! I am not eating lunch today but leaving in a half hour or so to get my hair done.

I had a smoked turkey sub with roasted red pepper sauce from Quizno's. Not a fan of the 'No's, but this was pretty good. The sauce was literally dripping off it. I got the small, but I feel so bloated. Probably partly b/c I was sick all weekend and didn't eat anything & my stomach shrunk. I have 5 days to get it back to size for Christmas stuffin'!! Oink!

Unknown said...

i am an oinker myself, lizturtle. i am convincing ethics to eat b/c i cannot stand it when ppl don't eat! i must feed her before she gets on a plane to chi-town.

HaterTot said...

Jo has just informed me that it is 1 degree in Chicago. I am not prepared for this. It's like 30 here and I almost died getting the weirdest lunch ever.

More on that later, I have a meeting.

I'm going to freeze to death tomorrow.

The Doctor said...

I’m staring two very solid nights of drinking right in the eyes, and I am petrified. I’ve been nibbling on things like menopause-easing foodstuffs and leaves for the last few weeks. I’m not ready for this. I decided, health and diet be damned, I need a burger base for tonight. Just ate a HUGE burger--no cheese and, so sad, no mayo. I hated hearing the words “hold the mayo” come out of my mouth. I don’t think anything I could say would feel any worse, except maybe if I said “nookyaler,” like the chimp does.

Anyway, what a pathetic display of short order cooking did I witness. No passion whatsoever. They didn’t even look hung over. I wanted to jump back there and show them how it’s done. (Two summers -- Berrien Hills Country Club, Benton Harbor, Michigan, pool shack grill and fryer operations, part-time patio waitstaff, and halfway house drunk. Mrs. McKinnon, Mrs. Kowalski…and, of course, Mrs. O’Dorsio. Sweet Mrs. O’Dorsio. And oh, the babysitters! The patio waitresses….)

Deep inside the forest is a door into another land,
Here is our life and home,
We are staying, here forever in the beauty of this place all alone,
We keep on hoping...
Maybe, there's a world where we won't have to run, and
Maybe, there's a time we'll call our own,
Living free in harmony and majesty,
Take me home,
Take me home.

(I don't really care about venue tomorrow, Rico. Let's you and I figure that out, though. Bucktowny, Ukrainian Village-ish? I also thought about the Joy Blue, but Jo said it was closed. No more "(Rico) Specials"?!?!)

The Doctor said...

"Cans"? Is that a place, or do you mean that we should find a place that sells beer in cans? PBR? Maybe Schlitz?

i'm jealous of ethics for going to chicago...i wanna meet the chicago wfl-ers!!! oh well, i have to wait 'til spring conference i suppose.

ethics' lunch was very very wierd, and she will have to report on it when she gets back. though all i can say is that i had a not-so-warm corn chowder and small caesar salad. (which apparently was invented in mexico, strangely enough.)

Josephus said...

Josephus is in Chicago as well.
In my hotel room ordering tortilla soup and a turkey wrap for late lunch.
psyched about tomorrow night.

HaterTot said...

I am not intimidated by the drinking tomorrow. No. I am TERRIFIED of the weather. I am a GIANT weather wuss. I don't own enough sweaters and scarves to prepare. I will do what I can, though. Hats and scarves and gloves and socks.

Moving on to my lunch... abp Garden Salad, and... wait for it... Turkey, Cranberry, Rice stew with mushrooms, carrots, and sherry. So freakin' weird. Like they took Tgiving leftovers, threw 'em in a pot and served it up. Strangest thing I've ever seen at a restaurant. It wasn't bad, exactly, but it made me kind of nauseous. I'm better now, though.

Back to my impending visit, is anyone planning on drinking all night with me, or should I make arrangements to "sleep" somewhere for a few hours?

The Doctor said...

Does anyone ever "plan" to drink all night?

It could happen. Candidly, however, I expect to turn into a puddle around the stroke of midnight or shortly thereafter.

HaterTot said...

My "sleeping" arrangements have been sorted out. No need to drink until 4.

Of course, I must harken back to the "episode" in NY when I was supposed to meet up w/ csr, and his inability to hang precluded that.

I'm expecting better from the Chicago WFLers.

Josephus said...

I can be trusted to make it till bar time.

Josephus said...

ethics, ethics, ethics...can I count on a 1:30 trip to Old Town Ale HOuse with the WFLers?

HaterTot said...

1:30 am? Sure, why not? Rico - where are you taking me for burritos???

Josephus said...

That's rico's department.

The Doctor said...

1:30 a.m. at the OTAH...I'm sitting here pouting to myself.

The Doctor said...

Well, and to you people.

HaterTot said...

dipso... er, I mean Lester - why are you pouting? You're all growns up now, you too can join us at the OTAH.

Hey Jo, is that close to where I need to go to end my night? (as you & rico are the only wflers who know that answer)

Unknown said...

hmmm, i don't know the answer, ethics, but i am going to say yes since there's always the option of a cab...or is that not a chi-town thing to do?

The Doctor said...

You're right, Ethics.

Nobody gets to tell me what to do ever again.

Josephus said...

ditto what la choi said.

HaterTot said...

LaChoi is funny. Yes, I suppose you are correct. Whatever. I am in Chicago to booze it up right with my fellow WFLers. That is the only priority! (oh, and not dying of hypothermia)

Unknown said...

i can think of plenty of ways that you can have fun ethics...but they are not appropriate for this blog. ;-)

i wanna go to chi-town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hate missing out on the drinking extravaganza. but will not miss the cold weather...ouch!

HaterTot said...

LaChoi, can I borrow your goofy hat?

Unknown said...

well i have many goofy hats. i can lend you one of them...take your pick!

HaterTot said...

Hey, at least Oprah won't have to fly all that way to lean over us in our sleep w/ her cadre of thugs.
