On my first full day as President of The Original What's For Lunch, I regret to inform everyone that I'm letting you down. I am SWAMPED at work. The good thing is I'm raising money like it's my job. Oh, wait... it IS my job. While there's something gratifying about picking up the phone, asking Joe CEO for $25K for a table at a dinner and actually having them say, "I'd love to," it's not gratifying in the same way that say, a turkey club on wheat with cheddar and a pickle might be. However, for now I'll be fueling up on the kick I get from cash and Diet Coke. Lots and lots of Diet Coke.
So, tell me TOWFLers, WFL?

I'm not really clear on the roles and responsibilities of the WFL executive branch, so I'm not really sure how you're letting us down. (Mayhaps we ought draft a constitution?)
Back to the brown bag meatloaf today and that's fine because I'm getting killed here today, too. I've got to go cut some limes!!!
Dipso, I think you may have inspired me to make some of my award winning - yes, you heard me, award winning, meatloaf this weekend. Of course, I have a bachelor party on Saturday and will no doubt be hungover on Sunday, which would be my meatloaf making day... I'm going to have to make a plan on this one.
Indeed - bagels have an almost alarming shelf life, provided they've been kept away from moisture. If they're rock hard, your best bet is to wrap it in a damp paper towel and microwave it for 20-30 seconds. Quickly remove it and pop it in the toaster, and it should be good-as-fresh!
chicken salad sandwich with swiss and bacon on wheat in my Chicago hotel room.
Eh...
Chicago hotel room, what!??! Ahem!
Ethics, I actually did win a meatloaf contest once. Bring it on!
Wow, dipso - sounds like we're going to have to have a loaf off. I've got to warn you - I've been at it for years; my loaf first came to prominence back in 1982. It's been receiving recognition ever since, though, over the years, I've tinkered a bit with the recipe.
This is really making me hungry for meatloaf. I'm going to have to figure out how to get hammered Saturday night (if I have to go to the nekkid bar, you can be damn sure I have to get drunk with a capital F) and yet still be able to function Sunday...
We'll have to find a way to make that happen. Can you fed ex ground beef? My recipe changes every time...often dramatically.
A little post-mordem on an excellent lunch. Hit a Burmese restaurant for lunch. What's that you say? Isn't Burma known as the biggest violator of human rights on earth. Yes it is, and the food is excellent, thank you very much.
I had cashew chicken, which I think Burma killed many thai people to steal the recipe. Very delicious
Aren't they calling themselves Myanmar these days? Also, they're being pre-emptively accused of a bird flu coverup. From Reuters:
Officially, the H5N1 avian influenza strain that has killed millions of birds and scores of people across Asia since late 2003 has not landed in the former Burma, even though neighbouring China, Thailand and Laos have all had outbreaks.
However, given the dearth of reliable information that comes out of Yangon, as well as the junta's dubious track record with the truth, many international observers are worried about a cover-up of potentially global significance.
The fear is that the virus will infect birds in Myanmar then -- either through a cover-up or a lack of monitoring in remote or rebel-run areas -- will remain undetected for long enough to mutate, "go human" and unleash a killer flu pandemic on the world.
Hey - isn't chicken a bird...?
