Houston, We Have A Problem

Okay, so this is embarrassing. But, if I can't turn to my fellow What'sForLunchers, who else can I turn to?

Last night, I decided to try to replicate one of my new favorite cocktails. The bar from whence it hails calls it a Moment of Clarity. It's green tea and Stoli O, with muddled lemon. Let's just say that it took a few tries to get it to my liking, especially since I only had normal vodka on hand. So as I was enjoying my Sunday night, assembling my new vacuum cleaner, putting new slipcovers on my sofas, and watching the MTV VMAs and Entourage, I also perfected the Moment of Clarity. Now, while I should be lauded for my multi-tasking, I probably should have gone to bed before 4.

So, my dilemma: I'm still drunk. Not hungover, but still legitimately buzzing. For sure, I shouldn't have been driving to work. I need your help, people. What should I eat? I desperately need to sober up, but I DO NOT want to sober up into a hangover. What's a girl to do? (and, what are y'all havin'?)

Ethics, that's quite a pickle. It's hard for me to make a suggestion, because I'm not familiar with what green team, vodka and lemon would do to the stomach.

You should probably brace yourself for that hangover. Drink as much water as you can and, if you haven't already, go ahead and pop a few hundred mg of ibuprofen and/or naproxen sodium.

I have to believe french fries should be included in your lunch plans. Keep it simple. Maybe w/ chicken strips? If you have somewhere good around you that could fill this order, that's what I'd do. Otherwise, and I don't think this word has yet to uttered on this blog, but my understanding is that McDonald's does have some new chicken strip thing that is not a McNugget and is actually not bad. (I've never had it myself.) I hate McDonalds and refuse to eat there -- except in the case of hangover. Then it can be excusable.

Again, expect the hang, and start thinking about places that serve a good bloody near you.

I'm going burrito from Chipotle, actually (I know who owns them...don't bother pointing that out.). I think I'll try either the pork or shredded beef...I've never done either and feel a little adventurous.

I went to bed at 9 yesterday.

Ethics i feel your pain. A greasy cheeseburger and fries should do it. Or if you are feeling a bit of nausea, stick with overdosing on water and go for a 3:00 late lunch. I am dealing with the "jetlag hangover" myself. I'm thinking about a 2:00 blt with cheddar.

Dipso, you should weigh in on the battle of the Tex-Mexicans while you're enjoying your burrito.

Update - still kind of drunk, definitely not hungover. I wonder if the combo of green tea, this particular variety was honey-lemon-ginseng, somehow minimizes the hangover? I had a lovely Pennsylvania beefsteak tomato, but I'm still hungry. Fries might be an idea, and though there's a M*D's near here, I don't think I can do that. But I have had the chicken strips you speak of - they're called Chicken Selects - and though I'm ashamed to admit it, I'm a fan.

Are the selects better than the nuggets?

Oh, yes, Josephus. The selects aren't processed like the nuggets and the whole flavor is different; the breading is different, as well. The Selects are like actual chicken strips. I highly recommend them.

This reminds me, I've been craving Popeyes. However, my old neighbor went to the one by my house and there was something not-chicken-y in her food. But I still want it. Just not from that particular outpost.

(this in no way solves my lunch dilemma for today)

RE the Popeyes thing...I did popeyes a couple of months ago and I so totally hear what your neighbor's saying about not-chickeny. I couldn't put my finger on it but that's a great description. Chicken-y, to me, is a desireable quality in chicken. I might be interested to see if you have a similar experience, but I don't want you to turn yourself into a guinea pig for blog research purposes. (Maybe it was guinea pig-y.) If you want decent fried, I suggest you seek out an alternate provider.

First off I have to say a word in support of Popeye's. Their spicy chicken accompanied by their beans and rice is a true American treasure.

With regard to Seattle I have to say that I did NOT do justice to myself, this blog, nor the city of Seattle with my lunch choices.

I didn't allot enough time for a proper lunch schedule. I did get a few treats however. The lowlight would have to be a lunch of "white" clam chowder and tuna melt at on of Pike Place's eateries. The chowder was pedestrian, perhaps even from a can, and the tuna melt, while it was distinct (it was heavily seasoned with dill, and was low on mayo) it did not meet my high tuna salad expectations.

One higlight was actually outside of Seattle proper. A burger joint in the town where Olympic National Park. One of those drive thru only places. I had a bacon cheeseburger with all the fixins and extra mayo. They took their time but it was well worth it. I was very pleased.

We also did "brunch" at a place called the Portage Bay Cafe. Trendy little joint in the Fremont neighborhood. I didn't order well, but everyone else's food looked great.

The best lunch experience was actually a non-traditional one. On our final day in town we came across a street fair in downtown Seattle and I volunteered to judge in a chili cookoff. It was like a dream come true. The winning chili was from a joint in Olympia, WA and I thought made the best use of seasoning (perfect combo of brown sugar and chili powder). It also left a distinct pleasing chili aftertaste in my mouth...if oly there was cheese and sour cream available...
