Punctuality

Wow, it was a looooong vacation for me. Last night was a bad mixture of no-name-brand-alcoholic-sneezing-coughing-aching-stuffy-head-so-you-can-rest-medicine and a lack of sleep. Said medicine couldn't get it's trick done until about 1am and then it was just too late for any real sleep. So, I'm at work this morning, on-time, without any real sleep. At least I'm still awake. So, we don't have a schedule up so I'm going to post because I was a total loser and didn't get it done earlier in the year (thanks LC).

So, since I'm so punctual this morning I figured I kick out a post.

I don't have the pics and video downloaded yet for a review of Los Angeles' beautiful port and the fresh food that can be found therein, so my topic will be a weak "What impossible new years resolutions did you set for yourself?" and "What's for lunch?"

Post Script: I know many people are off today for former Pres. Ford's funeral. As a respectful shoutout to the man of physical comedy (as opposed to the current President), I'd like to say that Gerald Ford was one of the good ones.

happy new year everyone... 2007 has to be better than 2006, right? as a rule i don't make new year's resolutions anymore because it seems that they are the one type of promise to yourself that you are expected to cheat on. how many fat people in the world for how many years have resolved to be thin in the coming year and how many black-lunged americans with a perpetual cough have sworn that this year they'll quit.

fuck that.

so no resolutions formally although i am informally attempting to smoke less (two cigarettes all yesterday) and drink less (no need you ask what i drank yesterday)...

i got a wii on saturday as part of my quitting strategy. hopefully, i'll be too distracted by the super happy funness to pollute my body.

Happy New Year everyone! Yes, M, 2007 has to be better than 2006. Or am I tempting fate with a remark like that?

My resolutions are the usual: eat less, excercise more, lose weight. Blah blah blah. I imagine I'll be smoking less, just because of the no-smoke ban in effect today in DC.

Lunch today is leftover Jersey Mike's. Dinner tonight is leftover Jersey Mike's. Lunch tomorrow will most likely be leftover Jersey Mike's. I have a lot of Jersey Mike's sandwich to get through.

I'm thinking about running today. Maybe the group here at work will get together ... maybe not ... if we do I'll be clearly just thinking about a run and then going to get a Burger and rings at Christian's Tailgate or getting some Greek at Niko Niko's (and not the kind of Greek your dirty mind is thinking right now).

Regardless, I have resolved to complete a whole triathlon this year and my goal for financial responsibility has to be met. Oh, did I also mention I was definitely giving away a ring this year to some (un)lucky lady?

I am one of the few who is off from work in order to celebrate President Ford's life and death. I am observing this national day of mourning by running errands and exchanging some x-mas gifts.

Several New Year's resolutions involving better care of my self including watching what I eat. The eating part should be reflected by my lunch choices...

I'm having honey turkey and swiss on a soft roll with tomato and onion, fat free mayo and some honey mustard.

Happy New Year every one!

Today I think I should have a sandwich. Why?

Well, because I won the Czar’s fantasy football league over the weekend. It was a repeat championship – I won last year, too. And … SANDWICHED in between I won the Czar’s fantasy baseball league, too. Get it? Sandwich. Lunch.

Picked up some sushi rolls from shoprite... surprisingly good.. i got the "Anything Roll" which appears to be spicy tuna, eel, avocado and multiple colors of tobiko... (shit! which is now all over my desk).. and gatorade "AM"--for replacing those fluids lost during sleep... i swear, that's what it says..

My New Year's resolution is not to catch every single bug that goes around. Don't know how I'll accomplish that, but it can't be any harder or easier to keep than other resolutions.
Now that I'm back at full strength, I'm having trouble removing myself from the couch.
Lunch today was leftovers from last night's dinner, eaten after watching the Ford funeral.

Happy New Year, indeed, OWFLers. I rang mine in at the Austin Music Hall with Robert Earl Keen, Reckless Kelly, and the Gourds. (By the way, if you ever have the chance to catch the Gourds live, do it. They're crazy fun.) I even did a stellar job of lightning-rodding against ruining New Year's Eve for everyone with me by getting whip-my-shit-out-in-the-middle-of-a-Bob-Schneider-show drunk the night before. Let's hear it for the treatment being worse than the cure!

No New Years resolutions, per se, for me. At five months and counting now, I think this no-smoking thing is sticking, and the ban in DC is only going to reinforce that. In theory, at least, that is the first (and biggest) step in a series of lifestyle adjustments that I hope to continue, but it really has little to do with the New Year.

(I am hoping one of those adjustments is to not continue taking Sunshine's place at the bottom of the czar's fantasy football league.)

I spent 14 hours in the car yesterday driving from Austin to Atlanta. Tomorrow, I will drive the 10 or so hours from Atlanta to DC. In honor of my week of road tripping, I had a double combo from Wendy's for lunch today. Biggie-sized. No mustard, no mayo, no pickle.

Gimletgirl, the best defense against a cold is a good defense ... get yourself some zinc, niacin, and huge chewable vitamin C tablets ... or just start taking pre-natal vitamins crushed into a shake with banana, honey, and some sort of really citrus-y fruit. You'll be good to go all winter.

I myself hab a code bacuaz I partied doo much on da cruise.

Where is the La Choi today?

Earthquake, good to hear about you enjoying Texas! Most people think it is just a pit ... when in reality it is a pit surrounding Austin.

peep: REK was good. By most accounts, he's always good. His best songs are off the charts, and I think his worst stuff isn't all that bad. If nothing else, he's one of those musicians who understands that a musician's job is to play in front of crowds. I can't endorse every album he has put out (nor could I name them), but I am confident saying it's a good show to catch.

diz: yeah, Austin's a tough town to beat. I haven't spent a lot of time there since I moved away from San Antonio, but a quick two nights there this weekend reminded me why I think on it so fondly. (And, the distinction between Austin and the rest of Texas is not lost on me.)

Diz,
I don't know what you heard about my performance on New Year's Eve Eve, but I'm not knocked up.

M, do you wet the bed? Does Gatorade have a large contingent of consumers that wet the bed? Otherwise 'fluids lost during sleep' makes no sense.

Ride that cotton pony, Miso. Ah, Midol. I remember eating a whole 6-packet of those before going out drinking in high school. Never a better high . . . .

I think I'll have the 2nd half of my sandwich. Jersey Mike's holds up surprisingly well, given the amount of oil & vinegar on it. Mmmmm.

Happy '07! Unfortunately I did not get the day off to mourn. Boo. I haven't set any new year's thingies, but the no smoking thing in DC will either encourage me to smoke less or hang out in my old stomping grounds in the commonwealth a little bit more. Damn...I never should've moved out of VA.

dizkonekdid said...

Well Gimletgirl ... at least I know you had a good time.

Miso, blargle, you just mad me puke a bit ... you too LT ... you two need to stop thinking that jokes about your period are cool ... its like guys talking about the kinds of blow jobs they get ... I just don't want to hear about it.

Josephus said...

Scratch that turkey sandwich I was planning on. My errand schedule forced me to Wendy's wher I picked up a spicy chicken sandwich. At least it wasn't a burger...

Wait - who doesn't want to hear about blow jobs? Diz - bad analogy.

Today I... wait for it... worked!! I started at 1pm (b/c I'm a contractor - and apparently this is what "we" do) following the Ford funeral, worked until almost 6, then went to the gym. I forgot about having to be prepared for lunch when you have a job, so I skipped it altogether. Dinner will (finally) be lo mein.

NY Resolution = finally painting my living room. It's symbolic though, if only to me. I live here! I'm not moving on a whim! Woo Hoo!
