Things are happening...

A few quick notes:
Jada's business post yesterday got a fire burning under the OWFL to get moving on a new blog home and I am happy to announce that in the short 24 hours since there has been significant action...take a gander HERE.
Yep, someday that will be our new home.
We obviously have alot of planning and work to do but the ball is rolling.
But with Diz' technical know how and the creative genius of PeeP, Jada and the rest of us we have a very bright future ahead. So stay involved and keep your ideas coming on the BLOG BUSINESS POST . There is lots to plan and decide.

We also went over the 20,000 visit threshold yesterday and that is something worth note and pride. This little engine has certainly come a long way from the days of 3-4 people annoying eachother via email.

These are very exciting times for us...which brings me to this...
Lady Amalfia

One of the many things that occurred at the Chicago conference that has yet to be reported also has the biggest immediate impact on the blog. And that is the transfer of leadership. Hatertot graciously stepped down as our Blog Leader and after an impromptu nominating session it was agreed that Lady Amalfia, the blogger formerly known as Unicorn, should take the reigns. It took some strong encouragement (non-volent) and cajoling but shortly after being nominated Lady Amalfia graciously accepted the role of Big Blog Boss.

In many ways her uni-ness has already been a strong leader in the OWFL community, working as the OWFL's in house baker of deliciously magically themed goods and in improving the schedule each month. It should be noted that it was Lady Amalfia who got the very succesful Chicago Conference off the ground and moving while the rest of us waited for something to happen.

The Lady Amalfia also produced the memoir of the Chicago Confrence, the 1st Official OWFL cookbooks. She spent many, many hours (ask mr. uni who put in considerable time and effort himself) of blood, sweat, tears and cash into creating a perfect way for us to memorialize the Chicago Conference and to keep our fellow lunchers' recipes readily accessible.

Lady Amalfia/Unicorn has always shown herself to be a diplomat in times of strife and someone unafraid to act in times of indecision.
So it is with an open heart and an empty stomach that HT and I enthusiastically introduce you to our new leader LADY AMALFIA!!!

So in honor of our new boss let's have spend today doing what she wants us to do, have fun, it's an anything goes topic day. We may even indulge a little eso-terrorism..As long as you start by congratulating the new boss and telling us, of course...WFL?

Congrats Lady A! I know you'll be a leader of the people. Someone who we can trust to lead us through the troubling lunch waters of our era. You're the decider now, and you decide what's best!

I brought lunch in today, that is something that I haven't done in so long, it may date back to the days before I even had a job of any kind. All the way back to high school maybe.

Anyhoo, its nothing too special. Spaghetti, a cabbage roll, and a couple lil' spring rolls. Though the cabbage roll is pretty good, and I was excited to find that Mrs. WD knows how to make this traditional russian dish that my Baba has been serving up my whole life.

Lady A is a brilliant choice. Brilliant. Congratulations and good luck.

All hail Lady A! Although, as I remember it, there might have been a little bullying to get her to accept . . . .

I am so psyched about the new site(s).

Lunch today - not sure. I went to Noodles & Co for the first time ever last night & got their indonesian peanut saute (not satay) with chicken. Which I thought would be enough to eat for lunch today, too, but after settling in front of the tv (after working out) for an hour & munching on it, it was all gone. Argh. It's crappy out, so it feels like a soup day (and I never feel like soup). Maybe I'll get a Quizno's bread bowl, instead of a QUIZNO'S SALAD. Hmmm. Any suggestions anyone?

Esoterrorism, eh? EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

My money is on Emmett Smith or Mario Lopez.

Good bye Tucker tonight (sorry HT).

Congrats, Lady A! Happy Birthday, Milo!!

A salad from the GP is in order.

Kikidee. A cabbage roll is a soft outer cabbage "shell", and inside is ground beef, rice, maybe some tomatos, and lots of nice spices. Cooked in a tomato and saurkraut sauce. How my filipina wife ever learned to make this traditional slavic meal, I do not know.

GimletGirl said...

Congratulations Lady A! May your reign be long and delicious!
I did catch a bit of Dancing w/ the Stars last night--including a glimpse of the new, not-so-improved Joey Lawrence. Whoa, indeed.
Lunch today is an "Italian" sandwich and a banana.

Josephus said...

Vie de France was good to my lower GI tract yesterday so I think will return there for a trio of salads.

Hey anybody (miso & HT) watch Nip/Tuck last night?

LizTurtle said...

Aw, happy birthday Milo. Hey, he's older than me in dog years. Awesome.

Anyone want to come to Jon Stewart on Saturday? See Molly for details...

Josephus said...

LT did you hear from the missus?
I think she wanted in...

dizkonekdid said...

Congrats LadyA,

As a side note, Jo is getting together a list of people with email addresses so I can send out new email addresses and log IDs for everyone on the new site.

There will be places for everyone of the contributors and of course, email address .. and access to pr0n if it is so desired (seriously).

That aside, I freakin hungry.

Josephus said...

Per Diz' last comment, for those of you regulars who aren't contributors yet, shoot me an email so we can get you porn...or whatever the heck diz is talking about. lunchczar@gmail.com

LizTurtle said...

Yah, Jo, she decided not to go. :-( Boo. So ticket still available! Come on! He's funny!

So muff (non-sandwich) will be available? Holy cow! Technical question (which may be stupid by techie standards) - will having that affect people who work with firewalls or have their internet monitored at work? Just something to think about.

Ok, out to lunch. Either soup or hot sandwich. Maybe steak & cheese . . . mmmmmmm.

Heliocentric said...

All hail the new leader.

I am sorry I have been out of blog country lately, but it's nice to know that the coup was bloodless and that we have a new vision for the future

FL today is left over Eddie Cafe. Chunks of meat in brown sauce.

At 9:18 this morning, unemployment finally became un fun. It sucks. I didn't think it would get that way until I was running out of money, but I have plenty of cash left from my summer contract and I am now ready to take jobs that I wouldn't have considered as recently as last week.

GimletGirl said...

Yes, anyone who's available should definitely come to Jon Stewart. And I could use some funny--our printers and word processing application are down today--and I'm a lawyer. All I do is create reams and reams of the written word. Sadly, the fact that technical difficulties have made it virtually impossible for me to do my job does not mean that I can go home. Arrghhh! This is causing post-lunch indigestion (perhaps there were too many hot peppers on the Italian sandwich?)

HaterTot said...

Congrats, Lady A! I'm so pleased to be passing the leadership torch to you - you're going to be great.

Oooohhh... there's a Bowflex infomercial on... MassiveDelts, where oh where are ya??

Lunch today was stupid. For some reason, I bought one of those South Beach Diet boxes of lunch - southwest chicken wraps. They were just bland and boring and lame. But, it came with sugar free strawberry jello, so that kind of rocked.

Also, many congrats and thanks to Diz for helping us get our shit together last night. Between him and RK, they got us cats herded (kind of - Miso, we still have Nip/Tuck to discuss) and got our ducks in row. www.theoriginalwhatsforlunch.com is becoming a reality, and I feel like a proud parent.

Kikidee - I only caught a few minutes of Dancing With the Stars, and now I'm sad because my tv boyfriend is no longer going to be on. I'm hoping to comfort him in his time of need though.

I slept until almost noon today. And yet, I'm still sleepy. Argh. Nap time.

Josephus said...

damn HT with the anonymity violation...

LizTurtle said...

I haven't even seen Dancing with the Stars, but I can picture exactly how Tucker Carlson dances. Like a boy at his first boy-girl dance. When the teacher comes around & says "Let's see some daylight between you." Am I right?? I might have to watch next week just for the hi-larity.

Lunch was 1/2 a steak & cheese! It was good, if a little bready. And I have movers lined up! This whole moving thing is becoming a reality. I'm a little sad! I'll miss my cute little condo! Oh, and Uni, thank you so much for the offer to help with packing, but I am just too lazy! Plus, the movers are coming next Friday, and I doubt many people would show up for pizza & beer & packing on a Thursday!

Long live Lady A!

(PS - I was clearing out some text messages last night, and I stumbled on your claim that my stunt double showed up somewhere in Chicago. What was that all about?)

(WOW! While I was typing this, I got an invitation to become a contributor! I never thought...especially not today...oh, you all have made me the happiest man in the world! Excuse me for a moment...)

Okay, lunch today is going to be bourbon. A buddy of mine is rolling in to town in about an hour, and I'm going to meet him for a late lunch/early happy hour downtown somewhere, and I'm sure it will turn in to the same bourbonized affair that it always is.

Mmm...bourbon.

Like both the promise and the promising start of the new site. Despite having little strong opinion to contribute to the formative debate, I'm a big supporter of the movement itself.

Long live Lady A. Long live OWFL! Long live OWFLers! Long live Bourbon County!

Lady A said...

Awwwwww! Thanks everyone! I'll do my best...I know I have some big shoes to fill. BUT I have a feeling that the former higher ups will be lingering like a little devilbird on one shoulder and an angel on the other, to offer guidance and input. Actually, probably more like two devilbirds... ;)

So yesterday I was a bit annoyed that I registered as an independent because it left me on the bench when it came to voting. BOOOO! I was almost tempted to re-register as democrat, but I saw some random ad on TV that stated "Independent...No Agenda, Unbiased"...EXACTLY...I will remain independent and stand my ground! AND I feel that this is a good way for me to approach this new role...except that I do have a bit of an agenda...to maintain a pleasant and jovial environment for fellow lunchkins to discuss and banter about lunch and other related topics. Of course this all being done with the opinions and insight from everyone.

Anyways, so I really don't have any major plans right now, or any drastic changes. My thoughts, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"! Although blogger has been broke for awhile and everyone has rallied together nicely to get that project underway! Big shout out to Diz, Peep and Jada! We'll be sure to keep everyone updated on the status of our new home.

There are a few additions I would like to take a moment to announce, Ms. Gimlet Girl (aka Molly) and Earthquake will be added as official contributers. So you two take a gander at the schedule now and again to make sure you're ready and rarin' to go!

And it has been mentioned that Mr. Sunshine (who has a special place in all of hearts) should have a special place on our blog. We would like to extend to him an invitation to be the official Events/Seminar Coordinator. This would involve being the liasion of all events that the OWFL is invited to be a part of...happy hours, birthdays, LUNCHES, weekend getaways, excursions to QUIZNO's to get SALADS, etc. This will be a post on the side bar and all events need to go through Sunshine (if he is willing to take this position). For example, one seminar coming up...my berfday (weekend to be determined, either 10/28 or 11/4 in DC). This way if folks are looking to get into something they can check here to see what the latest and greatest event is! So sunshine, let us know what you think!

I would also like to take another moment to announce that NotWitty (a former OWFLer who fell off the radar screen awhile back) has been given an official request for her presence on the OWFL again. She has agreed to rejoin the ranks, so everyone please give her a warm welcome!! HI NOTWITTY!! WELCOME BACK! WFL??!

Thanks again everyone, but always remember that everything done here is a tremendous group effort within our little community. So no matter what is done it is done for the Lunchers, by the Lunchers!

As for me...today I am having a turkey sandwich on wheat with lettuce, tomatoes, sliced radishes, roasted red pepper and fresh basil.

may the new regime be a might less oppresive than the last...
Today i went to Mo's for lunch.. its some burrito chain with a vague popculture/obesity theme. i rather like it.. i had a burrito called the "homewrecker"... i hesitate to imagine why it could have gotten that name.
as my mind is rather filthy.
it has Rice, black beans, chicken mix, cheese, lettuce, guac, salasa, jalapeƱos and sour cream on a wonderful flour tortilla for under $6. It is rolled in the shape of a perfect cylinder and is roughly 7" long by 6" wide...
possibly thus the name homewrecker.
i ate it all.
and they sell something called a
"Cup of Fat" for 9.99... i didnt ask what it was or what it's use is.. but i shall buy it next time. you'll see.
i will.
beyond that. excited for the new website... [section omitted to be added to the website thread]
oh
and
Nip Tuck was pretty freaking awesome.
i cannot wait until the scientologists sue them and they suddenly have to justify matt's lack of faith. also, christian, sexually confused... never saw that coming...

LizTurtle said...

11/4!! 11/4!! 11/4!!!

Is Christian the guy who looks like the gay guy on 6 Feet Under? (apologies, don't watch N/T)

HaterTot said...

No, LT, Christian is the hot one. He was also on Charmed, and the Profiler before that, and Another World before that. Wow, I might be a Julian McMahon stalker, and I didn't even realize it until just now.

dizkonekdid said...

having what LT?

HaterTot said...

Welcome back NotWitty! A martini sounds delish... I only have Effen black cherry here though, so I'll have to modify...

Josephus said...

welcome back notwitty.
you're just in time to see things really take off around here.
Lady Amalfia has her work cut out for her...

Where's sunshine?

LizTurtle said...

Ah, that guy is hot. I could eat him right up . . . for lunch (staying on topic).

I am confused by Diz's remark.

HaterTot said...

LT, I'm always confused by Diz's remarks. Diz makes me feel really dumb a lot of the time, though about half the time, it's not my fault.

dizkonekdid said...

Welcome back Notwitty, Get in a good mood damnit!

That being said, I am the nerd slut around here. If anyone needs anything done ... uuuh technical, I am here to help.

As for the site, it will give us much needed autonomy. It would make me very sad if people were upset about the move.

As for blogger, I don't ever really see us going totally away from it ... that would be counter productive ... so I believe whatever we choose for the site it may be a double-posting situation ... or at the very least we will use blogger a storage place for digests.

I was kidding about the pr0n, it just that people that had to stop contributing or slow it down will be able to contribute more do to the greater functionality of the new webiste.

Cheers!

notwitty, glad to see the martini lunch hasn't disappeared. One of these days i'm going to have the 3 martini lunch. Do people go back to work after that? I mean i've got a high tolerance, but after 3 martinis i'm pretty buzzed. Some folks would be wasted.

anyhoo, I saw a clip of Tucker Carlson "dancing" last night. He was sitting in a chair while his partner danced around him, and he kinda smiled and bobbed his head. What a great dancer!

LizTurtle said...

WD, isn't what you described just a lap dance?

Welcome back notwitty! It's been so long!

No pr0n? I feel so teased . . . .

m said...

oh.. back on topic, here was an exerpt of my invite to lunch with juicy and patches:

Subject: RE: lunch
Please vote:
A) pizza party
B) sushi party
C) moes party
D) panera party
E) other
F) verbally bash people and smoke cigarettes
G) F& any of A-E
H) drive to mexcio and start a business renting motor scooters

Earthquake said...

Welcome back, notwitty!

Man, I don't know if I would be physically able to get myself back to my workplace after three martinis, much less actually go back to work. It's a good thing I didn't grow up to be an early 80s Houston oil executive.

Yet.

YAY! again for Lady A! She's finally made an honest blogger out of me!

And, lt, if my lap dance consists of being danced around, I want wd's $50 back.

Mmm...bourbon.

Josephus said...

where's peep?

The Doctor said...

Welcome back, Notwitty!!! Where the heck you been?

Ooh...I almost forgot, but last week I was cleaning out my hallway closet and I came across my old crock pot. I think I'm going to start stewing shit and bringing it for leftovers. I think my first netflix flix are coming today! If so, ooh, I'm gonna prep me some slow cookin' and see my first ever episode of The Sopranos.

HaterTot said...

I just watched tiger birth on Animal Planet.

Effen Black Cherry is the Black Cherry flavor of Effen Vodka and it is delicious. Plain is also delicious, but I am currently only in possession of Black Cherry. It's yum.

Earthquake said...

Okay, my newly adopted full-fledged brethren, the time has come for me to hoist a few jars for lunch.

Thanks to you, I am tempted to make one of them an Effen Black Cherry martini.

And maybe, if I'm very lucky, one of wd's famous lapdances as a chaser...

rico and I got wasted on Effen lemonades once.

Wow. Miss unicorn, or whatever. Your offer to be the special events coordinator is the closest thing to a job offer that I have received since my job search began.

I stand on my record and point to the Official OWFL music conference in Manchester Tennessee in June as my thesis work on the subject of events and ogranization. With no job to interfere, I take on the role with great gusto.

Hell I just saw Fight club the other day and have been loking for an outlet for my own personal project meyhem. In addition to adding my decade of event planning experience to the position I will add fun side projects to keep OWFL at the forefront of our hearts and minds.

Look forward to Take a lunch from the fridge day, panhandle for lunch day and conquer your fear day (where you eat what you like the least, for me that would be a mushroom, tomato veggie dog)

I hail the new leader and am proud to be in her administration. Subject to the same coup that takes her out of power by April.

Check your history folks. Leadership around here is fleeting at best, with several leaders falling within the first year.
