I don’t like posting and I don’t like the schedule. Yet, here I am. That’s because my President called on me to serve, and I will serve my President.
The reasons behind my distaste for posts and schedules are myriad. For one, sometimes I just don’t feel like, or am incapable of, being clever. Most significant, however, is the concept of “busy.”
I get really busy at work from time to time. I’m sure that many of you are similarly situated (with the notable exception of Professor Four Twenty, of course). Sometimes I get so busy that I don’t have a chance to visit yinzes for a day or so or so. (As a matter of fact, as I type, I ought to be working instead of blogging.) So, anyway, I guess I feel that the schedule represents an obligation. Understand, this is not an obligation that I resent. Rather, it is the potential that I might end up neglecting this obligation that causes me angst (i.e., I’d feel bad about missing a post and leaving you all hanging, but dammit, I simply have to work sometimes and I don’t want to feel guilty about that either. Curse my tendencies towards self-flagellation.).
And, let me tell you, folks, the free-swinging non-contributor lifestyle was pretty sweet. I will miss it.
Yet, I serve.
But I didn’t come here to talk about the draft…
I came to talk about being busy, which is the point of this post.
Sometimes, I get special busy. So busy that when the day ends, I realize that I’m dying of thirst and I have to pee like a racehorse—neither sensation having been allowed to manifest itself over the furious hours that just flew by. So busy that, not only is blogging about lunch out of the question, but any opportunity to take leave of the office and acquire a midday meal is also sacked (so to speak). When such a situation arises, I can always turn to my emergency reserves that are stashed around my workspace.
(Ho! Cute co-worker just asked if I wanted to make a bet on tomorrow’s UM ND game. I said “Let’s make it lunch!” Oh, Dipso, you sly sly dog, you.)
Back to the emergency reserves. At first blush it’s pretty slim pickins. A closer look, however, reveals a caloric content that could match a month’s worth in your run-of-the-mill Darfurian village. In the enclosed shelf to my left here, I have a box of cereal from Battle Creek, Michigan. Kellogg’s Smart Start—Antioxidant. It keeps me cancer free. I also have the big bomb—a can of Campbell’s Chunky Vegetable Beef. I used to have two of those, but I ate one a couple weeks ago over ramen noodles, several packages of which can be found in the bottom drawer to my immediate right. That drawer is big and deep.
I will now perform an inventory: three packages ramen—two beef, one chicken. I need to restock. I don’t do those Styrofoam cup things, either. Those are for Sallies; one Star-Kist “Lunch To-Go” (Bonnaroo! Just doesn’t taste the same in the office -- I promise you that); three other cans of tuna (I didn’t know I liked tuna so much); a cylinder of Quaker quick oats (I still have to do that coffee/oatmeal thing, I know); two pouches of lipton instant chicken noodle; @ ¼ bag gummy orange slice candy, all smashed up; ½ bag sunflower seeds, in shell; a million little packets of condiments, the mode of which seems to be “soy sauce,” or upon closer inspection, “water, salt, caramel color, sugar, msg, and sodium benzoate sauce.” Hey, soy-free soy sauce! I also have a container of soy milk in the fridge. There are some turkey and cheese hot pockets in the freezer that have been there for as long as I can remember, and a couple Salisbury steak frozen dinners. I didn’t buy them, but I would have no qualms about pilfering those in a pinch. I think they may be left there by a co-worker who got fired. I believe he was spending too much time on the Internet. I also have that bottle of Cholula I stole from Baja Fresh, some green tea, a box of Alka Seltzer, and half a bottle of now-crystalized Pure Michigan Star Thistle Honey, a product of Michigan that promises to re-liquify under certain meteorological conditions.
I’ve been typing this post for 25 minutes. I could type it for another 25 minutes. I’m not proud…or tired.
But at this point, I’d like to know what y’all have in your little makeshift workspace pantries (which is just an “r” away from being panties). Be as descriptive as possible now, and tell us what’s in your drawers.
Altogether now, with feeling:
You can get anything you want…

dipso: Brilliant Alice's threading. On a barely related note about office sustenance, I've been exploring the tool made available by the good people at www.pandora.com (strong recommendation, by the way) this week in a half-thought-out attempt to expand my musical knowledge base. Alice's Restaurant came up in the rotation on a channel I started out with Talkin' World War III Blues the other day, and it was the first time I had listened to it for a while. Brilliant then and brilliant now. So, thanks for feeding my recent reobssession.
On to the question at hand, I just checked my drawers, and this is what I found:
- 1 snack-size box of Sun-Maid raisins
- 6 snack-size boxes of Sun-Maid apricots
- 6 snack-size boxes of Sun-Maid cranberries
- most of a box of Celestial Seasonings Mandarin Orange Spice tea
- most of a box of Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger tea
- 1 tin of Altoid mints, empty
- 3.0 oz. of ground Black Pepper
- 2 plums and 1 cucumber I've been smuggling in my shorts for the past several years
Holy shit! I couldn't feed much (except the lust of hundreds and thousands of women) in a pinch with what I have in my desk. It's a good thing there are those two office-park-delis within a two-minute walk.
FL today, I'm thinking I might get a little saucy. Maybe a sit-down joint with a beer or two. It's Friday.
My magic snack drawer contains:
- 4 individual serving cups of applesauce.
- 3 pouches of tuna
- 4 Luna bars
- a bag of dried fruit (cherries and rasins)
- an open can of almonds
- about half a box of nutrigrain bars
- some coffee
- a bunch of those little fake creamers (no refrigeration!)
There's usually something chocolatey in there as well, but I just finished the last of my chocolate-covered pretzels from Trader Joe's and need to restock.
WFL? Not sure, but I'm hopeful that it's none of the above.
I had a dog named Arlo. He kicked it last year.
1. Tea (3)
2. Tuna (2)
2. (tie) Hot sauce (2)
Dagwoods, folks? Peep? Jo? Horsecock? Mamon!?!?
In job before this, Dragon work at ranch. Always had the can in pinch. THe can; 64 US OZ corned beef. open it one time when cat ran out of food. Cat, she run away.
i checked my drawers, and I have no food in there. I have some vitamins, but that don't count.
For a while I had some chocolate, but that's gone now.
Maybe I need to get onboard for this having food thing.
I often wonder if there was a major incident again in DC and i was forced to "shelter in place" as they say here, would I starve to death?
So while I have a gas mask in my drawer, I don't have a thing to eat or drink, hmmm...maybe I should stock up.
Suggestions?
SInce I am working out of the home today... and until I get a job or get in to a school, I have access to what is in the drawers at my home office.
I have heaps of left over Bonnaroo supplies. I have a stack of fruit in a can. A giant ass can of frank N beans, and tubes upon tubes of peanuts and trail mix.
I also have my new found love of Freedom toast and I think I can get away from the desk long enough to work some up.
Oh and double props to Pandora.com.
I'm listening now. Its like radio that you can control, that has no commericals, and tries to play cool songs that you haven't heard before but thinks you may like.
Free and no downloads, do it!
Watchdog--you reminded me that I left out the contents of my work-provided "Personal Evacuation Kit". In case of emergency I also have: 2 Capri-Sun sized pouches of water, one of those metallic emergency blankets, a mask to block out dust and particulates, a flashlight (also handy when you have to search for an earring you dropped under the desk), some latex gloves, a whistle, and a glow stick (in case terrorists attack a rave.)
Makes me feel all safe and secure.
Ugh, what a shitty day. Stupid car service people. And I came in & kind of yelled at a co-worker (not entirely unprovoked, but not entirely called-for either). I'll apologize in a bit. This should be interesting to see how he takes it.
At my desk: old thing of pumpkin seeds (very salty), old things of pea-snacks (not wasabi peas, which is why they are still there), and woah. That's it. Unless we get into the medicine cabinet (I don't think Tums counts as food). I used to have a lot more food at my desk. I probably have a bag of pork rinds buried in my desk somewhere from my Atkins day (like 2 years ago . . . I should really throw those out). I used to have a jar of atomic fireballs (from Cracker Barrel), but sadly, those have gone the way of the dodo.
FL: leftover pizza & salad from Monterrey's Pizza - never ordered from them until Wed night. It was ok - better than Domino's or Papa John's. Speaking of which, breakfast was a venti coffee & a sample bite of Starbucks carrot cake, so I'm starving. And I hate the nuked pizza, so I need to plan ahead & put it in the toaster 1/2 hour before I need it.
El Ultimo Dragon carry 1 banana powerbar and 4 packet catsup in singlet. catsup 3 for to look like blood, and 1 to kill awful taste of banana powerbar.
hahah, GG, you said "evacuation".
in my desk:
- half eaten back of cheezit snack mix
- packet of hellman's mayo
- packet of ketchup
- packet of orbits chewing gum (peppermint)
- packet of emer'gen-C raspberry flavored
wow, not good. going to breadline for lunch today b/c lakitty GOT PAID!!!!!! whoo hoo!
Oh, yeah, I forgot all the various ketchup, soy sauce (or "soy" sauce, apparently), and duck sauce packets I have. Hm, there's a guy somewhere who has a website or wrote a book about making a meal using nothing but condiment packets. I wish I could find it.
Copy Pandora. It's cool.
Hmm? I wonder what happens if I open this up?
Oh no!
gimlet: Thanks for the laugh from the terrorists attacking a rave line.
After some reflection, I have decided not to include the package of roasted, salted chick peas that was sitting on the workspace near my desk for the past week.
I also decided to finally throw them away since even I got to the point three days ago when I refuse to eat any more of them because they were gross the first time I tried them last week, and they got worse every time.
Shorty,
I've strategically transferred all of my work from my drawers to the top of my desk. Much handier that way. I have a drawer food and a drawer of shoes. It all works out quite nicely.
Not so nice is the changes I just found out about at my favorite place to get salads--they've changed all the available ingredients. This is following a previous change about three months ago that took away other yummy options. First they take my artichoke hearts, then they take my spinach.
Change blows.
Be careful about spinach - there's some ecoli going around on it. I think. I was half asleep while listening to the news on it this morning.
sadly all i can find is asoy sauce packet, some tums (cherry flav) and advil (the sweet orange kind).. now that would make a pretty elite lunch if i could just figure out the correct proportions..
i blew through a family sized box of jalapeno flavored cheese its yesterday (yet surprisingly didnt finish off the tums)... which brings me to an aswer for wd..
stocking your work pantry (haha.. i keep seeing that as panty) is quite an art.. you need to get things that you cannot and will not immediatly finish as soon as you get them but they have to be somethign that you will be able to eat at any time and not be repulsed. I suck at said balance and immediately eat all food that ends up at my desk (except soy sauce)
Bad Choice: M&Ms (they will be gone by lunch), raw chicken (it rots right quick)
Good Choice: Poptarts (i dont know anyone that can eat more than a package at a time, and they packaged in nucular safe foil.) Beef jerky (one bag is enough food for like 8 meals), cigarettes (assuming you cannot smoke at your desk)
For Lunch: A surprisingly good Gyro and fries.
no tomato
extra tahini sauce
and smile when you are making it.
For anyone in the NYC area, a pretty cool band, "Man Man" is playing tongiht in hoboken, i cannot even describe the music that well.. percussion and kazoos and crazy guys? ask miso, she loved them... anyway.
i'll see you there..
yeah
I have a big bottle of Whine(TM).
There are also some cheezy crackers.
But I think that is mostly because I'm hanging around the blog today.
(I almost typed Board .. but I gotta remember there is no such thing as a BBS anymore).
Cheers
oh and I am a techie .. so I rarely am seen away from a computer ... so this posting stuff is easy for me ... I'm having bag lunch today and taking my fat techie ass and going running around Buffalo Bayou in 98 degree weather.
HollA!
Peep - i only have one employee. and there is no doubt in my mind she is borderline retarded.
and going for her masters in ISM.. how f'ed is that? i spent over an hour the other day explaining the math of converting from minutes to hours and back ("how many minutes are in 1.73 hours?" "... um... 61ish?") arg.. and i just got through explaining that i needed this one webpage changed to look like the other one exactly. if it was differnt change it.. arg.. another 39 minutes of my life gone.
oh yes.. i meant to mention in my lunch post how much of an issue i have with eating foil wrapped food.. such as a gyro... i end up ingesting huge amounts of foil.. does anyone else have this problem? i just don't pay attention to where it is wrapped to at all times...
god.. and i'm calling balls borderline retarded...
I know what’s for lunch! Getting ditched by the czar!
Oh, and he says he’s got some plasticware and napkins in his drawer…something about dried fruit, blah blah blah.
M, do you mean tzatziki sauce? I might go with the gyro now, too...since my plans have crumbled. It's a good friday standard.
I just checked Google News and T is right about the spinach--throw it out! It's covered in e-coli! Now, could someone please explain to me how e-coli got onto spinach? I'm baffled.
Ugh!! Don't you notice when you bite on the foil, M??? I just got a chill thinking about that. Yargh!
Ugh, I have such a headache. And dammit, I drove today, so I can't get blitzed at happy hour. Although I might be parked in a meter spot that doesn't need paying on Saturdays . . . so maybe I'm ok after all. Will have to check that when I go to plug more coins in.
that's it...
tzatziki
they cafeteria listed it as "greek white sauce".. ugh..
and i think there is a clot in my brainstem.. thus comes tahini...
no, i have no adverse reactions to foil.. i am filling free you see.. there is not electricity!
and yes.
i bite my finger accidently a bit.. i'd say poison wiht lamda = 4 days...
poisson.
f typing and f fridays.
Decided on a desk style snack that could serve as a meal if you eat it long enough.
FL today, at my 'desk'. Snack Salad: CHedder goldfish, wasabi peas, roasted Edamame, side of baby swiss & Ritz crackers. Desert is fizzy gummi cola bottles, and a decadent fudge covered grahm cookie.
Lunch turned out to be a run to MacDonald's. Figure I'll turn the short lunch in to an early happy hour.
I don't have trouble not eating foil when eating foil-wrapped food. There isn't much that distracts me that much from food. Maybe nekkidness, but if there's enough nekkidness to distract me from the foil on my food, I'm guessing I'm putting the burrito down and getting in on the action.
"I thought it was Saturday." Wow! Remind me not to try that one out.
hair of the dog, peep. hair of the dog.
Speaking of hair of the dog, I can't wait for bloodies tomorrow! Oooh. Bloody Marys on a college football saturday. That's enough to make you love life.
Ultimo Drogon show up for work on wrong day before.
Show up on Thursday for match on wednesday. Forgot to count day spent in bed with concussion.
Never wrestle in Elkwood Estates Garage wrestling federation again.
Maybe borderline retard employee really just head injury employee.
ultimo, you're killing me! you're actually making friday at work worthwhile!
miso, expired pills are generally ok, they're just less potent. So you need to take more to get the same high. kinda like heroin, only that shit NEVER expires, or never lasts long enough I suppose.
M, thanks for the advice on how to stock the desk.
I found that stocking it with chocolately goodness didn't work, I just ate chocolate til' I was sick and had an empty desk again.
Peanut butter and crackers seems like a good idea...
Lunch today was an assortment of goodies from the gourmet buffet.
2 pieces of california roll.
Some calimari that just made my stomach go (FLIP!)
Orange chicken
peking duck
grilled salmon
broccoli
some sprouts of some kind
and a dream bar for desert
AWESOME! (except for the calamari, that really punched me in the gut while typing this. )
mesick I think, best keep eating to keep it down!
Ultimo, you look familiar.
U No ME?
Muchas gracias, Lizturtle. I live to entertain and amaze.
dipso: good call on Bloody Mary mornings.
Anyone in the DC area have any suggestions for finding a good bloody mary? A consistently good bloody mary? I've been conducting a half-hearted search for the past couple of years, and I have found a handful of places (and/or bartenders) that demonstrate some thought and care in their bloody marys. I have found many more who demonstrate no thought or care, but even, among the ones who understand the artistry of the bloody mary, I have not found any whose choices I necessarily agree with.
Any guidance?
Watchdog, I am fairly popular in Mexico. Perhaps you remember my title match against El Grande. It was in all the papers.
ALso, I have many color masks, you may be confusing me with one of the other dragons, pero I am the last one.
Yeah, I thought Ultimo Dragon was maroon and gold
Ah yes Ultimo, I remember now.
I too was Luchador in Mexico.
They call me "El Tiburon", that because I bite.
What happen to El Penultimo Dragon?
Mr. Uni once made me the best bloody Mary I've ever had. Track him down and bring a bottle of clamato, horse radish, vodka and spice, and he'll work magic, use secret ingrediants and hook it up turbo dopelike.
THE "El Tiburon"? That name is regarded with fear in Guanajuato. In America they have boogy man and michael jackson, but there they scare the children by saying El Tiburon will be your gym teacher tomorrow if you don't eat your frijoles. Frijoles always were eaten
Once, I bite mailman cuz my dog sick. As El Tiburon, I bring pain and love. My dog like, but mailman he do not.
Kids right to be afraid
Wow.
I just soiled mis pantalones.
Y sombrero.
[applause for ultimo and wdog]
Siiiiigh. That pizza didn't stick. Neither did the leftover salad, even though it was covered with olive oil & balsamic. Sigh. And someone brought candy for their birthday, but that Twix isn't hanging in there either. Argh. When will it be 5?!? Beer o'clock?!? Gah.
Ah, lt, your problem is that you're on the old time. Beer o'clock actually got moved up this week.
To 2:24 PM.
You should watch the Weather Channel in the morning.
peep: Did you hold your fingers up and say, "MONDAY...THAT'S...THIS...MANY...FROM...TODAY."
?
I just looked at someone's crotch.
The Gutburger from Otto's was damn good after that run!
Dipso you did a wonderful job posting today!! THANK YOU! And I feel ya about the scheduling and obligations, etc. but there are no rules against swapping or sending out a quickie note to say that you can't do it, or just aren't feeling inspired. I think we have a good support group and someone around here will surely have something to say if you're just not "feeling it".
Anyways, just wanted to say a quick hello from Chocowinity, North Carolina. We are getting ready to have an f'ing awesome lunch...fresh steamed blue crabs!! We took a ferry ride to a friend of my folks and picked up almost a bushel of crabs (just caught thi morning) for $15! Deal O'the year!
So I'll be settling down to some crabs loaded with old bay and vinegar, corn on the cob and tater salad soon. Yum!
Well, not at work so I can't be quite sure what's in my drawers..but I do believe I have a couple of Kashi bars, a can of chicken and wild rice soup, crackers, one of those to-go tuna salad kits and a bottle of pepto.
And Sunshine, you are right with clamato bloodies are fabulous. That was an old secret that my friend's dad taught me. He is currently in AA so I assumed that his recipe must good ;) Just as a warning though, if Mr. Uni does not have worschershire(sp?) sauce around he may grab a bottle of A1...and that is not good...blecch.
Okay, as I don't have access to my drawers, from memory I have:
A couple of boxes of sugar free jello
A couple packages of ramen
Several varieties of tea (white pomegranate, vanilla almond, Lyons Irish, Earl Grey, Chai, Ginseng Honey Lemon (can't really drink it during work as it makes me, er, "frisky"), Lemon Grean Tea and some others.
A variety of sugar free candy
Lunch today was church basement funeral food. Fried Chicken, meatloaf, roast beef, some kind of scalloped onion casserole, broccoli cheese casserole, mac and cheese with veggies, an assortment of cakes cookies and pies and Jello salads! Yay!!
Later friendsters. off to pittsburgh!
Jo and I are also big fans of the bloodies w/ Clamato. Technically called a Bloody Caesar, this variety is favored by our friends up north in Canada. I like to rim the glass with celery salt, and then add the standards (worcestershire sauce, horseradish, olive juice, pepper sauce) then garnish with celery, olives and/or pickles. Though, I've had these garnished with a shrimp and it was delicious. Yum!
WD check your email!!!!!!!
Dammit, EQ!! Couldn't you have told me this at, oh, 2:23??
Ah, Miller Time. How I miss you.
I have yogurt & honey & an almost black banana. I think I will put them together for a yummy treat.
Gaaaaah... I was just told this enormous project came in. I'm not doing the project, but the past few times I've done the checking on it. This is one of those (big-spending) clients that we apparently have no problem getting on our knees or bending over for . . . it's huge and it's apparently due in less than 2 weeks. Lucky for me, I'm packing & moving & closing, so maybe I won't have to deal with it. Wish me luck!
I was not a huge fan of the bloodies at Bongo's in Chicago - there was like cumin or something.
The spinach should be fine if it's cooked. And doesn't indian spinach usually look like shit anyway?? Oh, wait, I think I'm mixing up 2 different posts, but I'm too lazy to check it out.
Oh, and I have set my father and his friends to work this afternoon so that I can bring peppers back to all yinz DCers. I will see what I can do about sending a shipment out to Chicago.
This time around, they made the regular garlic and oil ones (the problem with sending these is that they're not "popped" ie canned in a traditional manner, and therefore require refrigeration. That said, I've left them out for days with no problems) and they properly canned some with tomato sauce, which look quite tasty. I'll be bringing back some of each variety.
Ultimo Dragon would break wooden chair on suckers head to get decent bloody Mary. Or put serious dent in metal chair.
at church in el pueblo, Drogon used to think, why is jesus's blood wine, why not bloody mary? everybody drinking it on sunday morning any way. Call it sangre de jesus. more people show up for free drink.
LT, agreed. Their food was delish, and other than their garnish, those bloodies sucked.
I've run in to the Bloody Caesar before. When I was living in a town of 900 in Montana. They were also big fans of the "red beer," which was about a quarter Clamato and three-quarters Rainier draft beer.
I have no small mental block against Clamato. There are so many things that I believe should never have sealife in them.
Hell, it took me a decade or two to get over my texture objection to tomato juice. Do we really need to introduce clam juice into the equation?
And, I can make a kickass bloody. I like splashes of beef broth and Guinness. I agree with HT on the celery salt. I'm also a big fan of garnishing with pickled asparagus, but I haven't seen that since Montana either.
What about buying one? Somewhere other than my house? Or Uni's house? Or ht's house?
I had a fantastic one in some basement on Chicago Avenue in Chicago one Saturday morning when I had no right to be in public. It came complete with the story about the night that the bartender (who was still cutting fruit when we walked in) began experimenting and perfected HIS bloody because there were 19 inches of snow falling that night, and he had no customers. That was a bloody that displayed some thought and care.
And, they had the naked-lady game, too.
ULTIMO DRAGON!
[BIG BIG APPLAUSE]
Oh, I'm a big fan of drinking alone at home. Big, BIG fan. This is just a lingering fascination with not being able to find a decent bloody mary in DC. One that I wouldn't be ashamed to take an out-of-town guest to.
This is the first place I've lived where I haven't been able to track down a decent bloody mary.
Shorty also makes a kick ass bloody with pickled green beans. Truth be told, I've never bought a bloody better than one made with love by myself or one of my friends. There's a place in Richmond that does the shrimp thing, and that's pretty tasty.
EQ, have you ever used Beefamato? I've never done the mater juice and beer, but a good friend introduced me to the beermosa, and I'm ashamed to say it's not bad at all.
Beefamato?
NO! I'm intrigued.
And, apparently, it's the earthquake hour on OWFL this afternoon.
Sorry, guys. This is what happens when I go to bed sober.
Oh, EQ - they're not as good as homemade, but Nathan's in G'town doesn't do a bad bloody.
Beefamato is made by the same fine folks who bring us Clamato, only it's made with, uh, beef juice. I've never had it, but it seems to go w/ your whole beef broth thing.
Shorty and E-Que can tell you about the bloodies at the Ebbitt, which, apparently are also made with Beef Broth.
This is fresh from Lady Sunshine. She didn't even know that today's topic included desk snacky cakes.
i never did eat dinner last night. as a result, i have been eating all day today! i got a bagel and oj on my way to work, then ate two packages of peanut butter crackers that i had in my desk, then leftover salad from yesterday's office lunch, then i went and bought a bag of candy corn from cvs. i think i am finally not hungry anymore.
When me and mis hombres need to cut weight for upcoming match, we switch to only beef juice diet. taste like government soup. weight cut fast. Best to trust beefjuice pro though. could not get more than shot glass full from whole kilo of grind chuck, also ruined uncle's juicer.
You can easily over-vodka a bloody mary. 2 oz to a pint is plenty. I keep mine simple. Tomato juice (not v8, and certainly not clamato), fresh squeezed lemon juice, worscestecesteshire sauce, s & p, and a good dash of tabasco. Celery salt rim is ideal. Horseradish can fuck itself. Celery stalk, lime wedge and olives to garnish. I do like a nice cold beer back.
Go away you stupid next 21 1/2 hours.
www.clamato.com
recipes, new products (Clamato Energia!) and more... woo hoo!
Over...Vodka....wha?...huh?...
Dipso, you've confused me. I feel scared and disoriented. "Over Vodka"?! Never.
COllege football at Newton House tomorrow. Projector somehow still available, Thanks Earthquake (Sorry about fantasy week 1... Looo.ooo.oooo.ser).
Beer on tap; Red Hook IPA.
Call for details or email for RSVP or to indicate interest.
Oh my god ultimo, I'm trying not laugh out loud here.
And 'clamato' sounds like an STD.
If the Dragon can after match with El Mojado tonight, he will go to see football at this newtonhouse.
That being said, I'll drink clamato, but I find it a little watery. I prefer either V8 or plain tomato juice, a squeeze of lime, a dash of wooster-sauce, and plenty, plenty of vodka. And lots and lots of heat. Don't matter if it's Tabasco, some other hot sauce, horseradish (I love a bloody you can chew), ground red pepper flakes, or what, but it's got to be hot. And all bloodies need a big leafy celery stalk. No celery = poor imitation of a bloody. I've never had a Beefy Mary (hm, sounds lesbian), so I can't comment on that. You know, there's a reason people played 'Bloody Mary' growing up and not 'Bloody Caesar'. It's a flimsy argument, but I will use it in my quest to stomp out clamato (get your vaccinations!).
three cheers for drinking at home! It's cost effective, asshole-less (well.. i guess that is arguable), drinks come fast and they always have Elijah Craig...
Clam juice should be outlawed.
And on the topic of prodestnat killing queens, if anyone is in philly anytime soon go to "Bonners" for you bloody Mary (23rd and sansom).. about 20% of the drink is fresh (read pungent) horseradish... it is possibly the best drink in the history of man and a hangover is but a distant memory on your third sip...
ultimo, for you, methinks it's Nuevotonhouse. Or Nuevotoncasa. Will you be wearing the mask!?!
sorry again, protestant.. my mind is stuck on the fact i am spending all tomorrow here at work..
wow.. another >100post day...
Dragon had bout with the clamato. RIng girl goes home with winner after match. After she find out he gay, she go with me. Next morning, CLamato. It ok though trainer Ramirez have cream for everything. Clamato not serious like ring worm or cauliflower ear.
Without mask, Ultimo Dragon, just drunk out of work construction worker. With mask; wanted by the chicas, feared by the muchachos, chased by the INS, and on guest list at 4 fine resgtruants in Oaxaca.
I feel you Dragon, Im drunk and out of work too.
Newtonhouse is in DC
PeeP is mean. Mean PeeP.
UD, you're a funny dude. You know, I wore one of your people's masks in Chicago the other weekend. Hot. Ness.
On the topic of midgets, I met up with one of my old friends with whom (along w/ her sister) I cultivated my love for the wee ones. (yeah, yeah, they're people too) We're getting together Sunday to talk about all things midget.
On the monkey friend, I think I forgot to tell everyone, I watched Every Which Way But Loose last weekend. Clyde is the best monkey ever.
mikeysunshine: Had I not watched my beloved Chicago defense get snatched out from under my nose a mere three picks away, that fence would be reversed. Keep that talk up, and I'm going to need that projector back real quick. Fucker.
m: Elijah Craig? Do we live together?
peep: mapped Streeter's, and it looks likely. It was a wedding, and most of the weekend was a haze, but it's in roughly the right area.
One of the best bloody mary lines I've ever heard: [in airport bar at 800AM] "Give me a bloody mary, and, for chrissakes, if I can't see through it, it's not going to do me a damned bit of good."
Oh, and I'm going to start drinking soon, I think. And looking through old photo albums. Good times. I think I'm going to bring some old photos of wee little HT home to DC.
We have posters up around the office reminding us of our office party ('family-friendly' crap instead of boozing it up around the holidays), at the zoo. My favorite poster has an orangutan on it. Aaawwww! Sweet little orange man!
The Bloody is my drunk in the airport bar drink of choice. That or vodka cranberry. I never, ever drink vodka cranberry outside the airport or on planes - but in those enviroments, it's my favorite.
eq - god man, it's been six months... where did you think your bourbon goes during those wednesday blackouts...
any nycs... seriously check out the man man concert tonight in hoboken (google them for musical samples... i believe they have a 30 minute cut of their preformance for NPR with the firey furnaces on the website...)
It's a little ghey that you and Dipso share shoes. And food. And women. Okay, maybe not the latter.
Still, weirdos.
mmmm... mutton....
i have never seen a picture that so perfectly captures what i feel like after chinese buffett...
silly reptile
I need to stop watching the Food Network. Paula almost just convinced me that, with orange juice concentrate and frozen banana daiquari mix, lemonade, ginger ale and some fruits, that SoCo ain't all that bad.
Come to the dark side, HT . . . we all float down here . . . .
Actually, they're peeps father's shoes.
Figure that one.
I'm not working the rest of the day out of protest. Just general protest.
UD - do you lives in mexico or in the US? you NEED to attend the next conference where ever that may be.
as far as we know
Peep, I should give you your dad's shoes so you can slip them back in his closet and see if he notices that they've been missing for 14 years.
MMMMMMM... pork roast with crusted rosemary and fig honey sauce. I want to marry Giada.
Ummmm . . . I don't know what to say about this whole clothes-stealing thing . . . . If any DC WFLers feel like crossing the river, HH at Ireland's 4 Courts (near Courthouse metro on Wilson)! Yes, it is an office HH. Yes, it will most likely be full of weird actuary types. Have I convinced you yet?!? Have a good weekend, one and all!
Me too, NotWitty, me too. SoCo and I had a run in at an early age, and I've not been back since. But Paula's frothy punch looked delish.
Barefoot Contessa time!
Yeah, I'm really disturbed by all of this clothes stealing talk. For some reason, guy's wearing each other's shit skeeves me out, yet I'm not phased by girls doing it.
I stole nothing. You loaned them to the grand rabbits emo dude for some reason and I came to possess them when he and i lived together about the double door.
Midget Gidget?
LT--Have fun drinking w/ your actuary types. I'm off to drink w/ some engineers. We can compare notes tomorrow!
And I like my Bloodies w/o any worchestershire, olive juice, horseradish, etc. Just straight up vodka and juice. Only instead of tomato, orange. And, yes, I know that's a screwdriver, not a Bloody Mary. I loathe tomato juice. It would be on my lunch buffet in hell. Reading y'all's detailed descriptions of tomato/V-8/Clamato/Beefamato (shudder) juice made me throw up in my mouth a little.
Have a good weekend all!
