Our childhood lunchboxes were most likely what initially sparked our love of lunch. They also said a lot about our personalities...so what did your lunchbox say about you???
Dukes of Hazzard/Star Wars/Scooby Doo/A-Team/Rambo/Spiderman/Other Superhero (including, but not limited to Batman & Superman):
Type of person: You were probably one of those pre-ritalin ADD kids that the teachers hated. Favorite School Subject: Recess.
Lunch Then: You probably had a Milky Way, potato chips and a Hi-C in there.
Lunch Now: In fact thats probably what your eating right now.
Barbie/Any of the Disney Princeses/My Little Pony/Holly Hobbie:
Type of Person: You were a girly-girl. Sleep-overs were your thing, and you knew how to keep the teachers wrapped around your little finger. Your scunchy always matched your frilly socks.
Favorite School Subject: All of it, you always had your homework done on time.
Lunch Then: Salad, dressing on the side, no cheese, hold the onions, and Diet Coke.
Lunch Now: Salad, dressing on the side, no cheese, hold the onions...and Diet Coke.
The Hulk/Darth Vador/Skelator/Cobra:
Type of Person: There's no reason to sugar-coat this...chances are you were a bully.
Favorite School Subject: Gym, you could even kick the gym teachers ass in dodge-ball.
Lunch Then: You stole lunch money and never carried any food in there, it was strictly cash. Lunch Now: Whatever the person in the cubical next to you is getting...and he'll pick it up for you too cause you make him nervous.
Peanuts/The Muppets/Mickey Mouse:
Type of Person: You were probably the odd man out, an easy target for the bully. If "Sir" was your favorite character you might be a lesbian.
Favorite School Subject: Reading...you didn't like to make waves.
Lunch Then: Tuna and an apple, the bully wouldn't bother beating anyone up for that.
Lunch Now: Whatever they guy in the cube next to you wants...and you'll pick it up for him because he makes you nervous.
Wonder Woman/The Invisible Girl/Super Girl/Charlie's Angels/Cat Woman/Sheera:
Type of Person: The boys usually picked you first for sports cause you could hold your own. You did not take crap from the other girls and got in trouble more than once for trying to take on the bully. If you were a guy, scratch all of that and reverse...and you are probably headlining your own drag queen show.
Favorite School Subject: Math, you were a wiz at standardized tests.
Lunch Then: Peanut Butter & Jelly and fruit...you didn't mess around.
Lunch Now: Whatever you want, you have a supermodels metabolism.
Brown Paper Bag/Plain Tin Lunch Box/Fabric Thermo Lunchbox:
Type of Person: Your favorite books were along the lines of the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew. You kept to yourself and had a secret clubhouse. Your other favorite accessory was your Inspector Gadget watch.
Favorite School Subject: Science. You loved chemistry and experimenting.
Lunch Then: Tomato sandwiches. They were Harriet the Spy's favorite.
Lunch Now: Leftovers wrapped in foil, you don't want to broadcast your lunch.
So, tell us...what did you carry your lunch in way back when?? What do you carry your lunch in now?? And don't forget WFL???

What does it say about you if you had a "Remains of the Day" lunchbox and played with "My Dinner with Andre" action figures?
Truth be told, as I've said before I was pretty much a hot lunch kid. The few lunchboxes I had were all Spiderman themed.
Let's hear it for Miu and her FIRST POST!!! And as the day goes on the lunchbox pictures should be popping up...
Peep saves the day!
I also seemed to have a brown paper sack for my lunch. I think in Detroit the lunch boxes were frowned upon. I probably would have rocked "G.I. Joe" or maybe "Knight Rider".
Ha! I too am from Michigan [although not from the cold hard streets of Detroit] and always brought my lunch in a brown lunch bag. My mom would sometimes gussy it up with a little drawing or a note, though. I am the quintessential Momma's girl.
These days if I bring my lunch it is usually a Jewel bag I am reusing because I try to be eco-friendly like that, and I can be cheap in certain ways.
Great job on your first post, Miu! It's good to have you on board.
I have NO idea what my lunchbox was growing up. It was actually "uncool" to bring your lunch...if you did bring your lunch it was much more approved of in a brown bag.
I did love ramen noodles in a thermos though! By the time lunch rolled around all the broth got sucked up by the noodles and they were extra fat like earthworms!
I'm doing a soup and sandwich from home today...no thermos :(
My time to shine was with my "Trapper Keeper" brand notebooks. Now those were awesome. I think I went with broad themes rather than name brands, such as a jet fighter or tiger about to stike. I always had a pimped out trapper keeper.
And yes, welcome to you too Miu. All first posters should be coddled and encouraged...be sure to see tomorrow's post. ; )
Just got back from lunch with family visiting from out of DC. WEnt to Clyde's in Georgetown. They had the crabcakes, I had the brisket with fries and greens. The greens were good. The brisket was so-so. Color me unimpressed.
I had a metal scooby doo one, followed by a plastic smurf one - but I brought my lunch maybe once a month, max. ("Buyers" were WAY cooler than "Bringers")Also, my mom would screw the tops on my thermos so tight that I could never get it off, so the soup that was inside (the only thing I ever carried in a thermos) either went uneaten, or I'd ask a nice teacher to help me. By the time I was in 3rd grade or so, I'd stopped using lunchboxes though, and if I brought my lunch, it was in a bag - but that happened with less frequency as I got older.
Welcome, Miu! Great post! I was laughing, but in a good way! I am having the hardest time remembering what lunchboxes I had. My parents probably have pictures at home. Hm. I remember a yellow plastic one one year. I think that was the Muppets. I had a new one every year, but damned if I can remember any of them. Somewhere around jr. high, I think, I started with brown paper bags or something. I always wanted to be a lunch-buyer, but my mom wouldn't have it. Sigh! And she always filled my thermos with something healthy - when my little bro was off being born, I was so excited b/c the mother of the friend whose house I was staying at put Kool-Ade in our thermii - & I thought I was so tricky b/c the top of my thermos was red so it looked like water!
For awhile after college (having no money, so bringing lunch every day) I had one of those plasticized-canvas bags that were shaped like brown paper bags, but were reusable. I had to stop using it b/c it smells. Now I use those handy little bags you get at Vicky's Secret or Whole Foods with the handles. I use it until it falls apart & then I use it to put my newspaper in for recycling day.
Today's lunch = California Cobb Salad from Listrani's. Yummy. And for dessert: cherry crisp from Sat nite, tho it's not so crisp anymore. I remembered to bring it in today, so hopefully all the good little piggy co-workers will come out & scavenge. Oink!
I too had a Clyde's lunch today, Clydes On The Walk in Chinatown, basically a 'To Go' Clydes.
Had the taco salad, not too shabby. Almost got the roast beef but wasn't ready for that much meat in my life.
Back on topic: I remember that lunch boxes could be used as a weapon. I remember some spazz kid swinging his at me once. I think it was a "transformers" lunch box, I had to "transform" his face for that one...
I never bought my lunch and always brought it until high school when I went out almost every day. I wrote a post about how "cool" my lunches were a couple weeks back. They really were, but my God were they unhealthy. I would never let Ace eat what I did day after day.
Today was a coworkers birthday. We ordered pizza, and all of them had sausage on them, which is quite possibly my least favorite meat topping. But I sucked it up and stayed silent because I hate people who complain about free lunches to the person who bought more than I do sausage on my pizza. Then there was a birthday cake and it had layers of banana cake and chocolate cake and vanilla cake and then there was a pudding layer and sliced bananas and strawberries in some kind of gel thing. It had more going on than Jo's birthday cake. It looked really pretty but wasn't that good. I politely nibbled about half my piece and then was done. Not worth the calories. And after seeing the pictures from this last weekend I am more serious then ever about dieting and losing the flabbiness.
I remember my mom would only let me buy lunch once a week...I usually waited for nacho, taco salad or egg roll day. It's kind of funny because I still follow that rule today...I try to bring my lunch everyday and on friday I'll splurge and buy something. Actually...that's not funny...that's SCARY!!
Jade that was good of you to silently suck up the sausage. I hate when people complain about free food too.
It is so nice out here in DC.
I'm already thinking about a big salad for dinner on the balcony.
Maybe I'll make some limeade.
My cake was the best ever...

You know it... I had a guy in tights and a evident moose knuckle on the front of my lunch box.
Whatcha think of me now?
I threw all conference food away last night, except for the cake, which I brought to work for people here to eat. I haven't noticed if people seem giddier due to that fact.
oh fantastic post Miu:
