No joke, I am in serious need of a vacation involving beaches, umbrella drinks, long naps and unsolicited massages.
I should mention that the OWFL Mini-Convention of this past weekend did not involve a single lunch, but DID involve several hundred beers and dinners at Honey 1 BBQ and Piece.
I am just recovering from the work and conference induced sleep deprivation.
Let's try to get back on track today with an easy one folks.
Imagine we're having an OWFL potluck lunch.
What are you bringing?
And please give a hearty OWFL welcome back to the newlyweds, the bride and James Vernor, who have returned from their honeymoon in the Far East! As you can tell, you were missed!
What'd you bring me?
And, of course, WFL?
Jo note - If this post goes according to plan, it could directly lead to an influx of entries into the OWFL recipe post. Keep your fingers crossed.

No joke, this past weekend was very exhausting and I need a weekend to recover from my weekend. My opinion of Jo's drinking and partying prowess has increased exponentially, and it was already stratospheric. How he can get by on so little sleep is astounding. HT and I spent all day Saturday and Sunday in our jammies on my couch and I am still tired.
Congratulations and much love to the Newleyweds! May you be Newlyweds eternally, and more successful than Nick and Jessica. Do we get pictures any time soon?
I like to bring strawberry shortcake to potlucks. I make my Aunt Donna's pound cake [the best I have ever had] a big bowl of macerated strawberries and raspberries in sugar and grand marnier and a huge bowl of homemade whipped cream. It's simple but so delicious.
I somehow ended up with the leftover pizza from piece pizza yesterday and had that for lunch yesterday, not sure yet what I will be dining on today.
Weekend dinner menus:
At Honey 1 BBQ - Rib tips, Links, fried gizzards, cheese fries, coleslaw.
At Piece - One Lg "Red" pizza with Italian sausage, mushroom and onion.
One Large "Red" with pepperoni and jalepenos.
And I need help with the third, but I think it was a small "white" with mashed potato, garlic and a meat.
Hm. Potlucks. I'm kind of ocd with them, b/c I don't want to make something that there's only a limited supply of, that only a few people would get to try. On the flip side, I have to get a little bit of everything, although I'm not quite so compulsive with that. I like to make pasta salad if there's going to be a lot of people. Or deviled eggs. I make really good pasta salad & deviled eggs. However, that may be a bit pedestrian for the present company. If we were having it today (or tomorrow, rather, as the olive salad needs to marinate for at least 8 hours), I would make my fabulous muffalata. Hm. I'll have to think about this some more. Not sure what's for lunch. Didn't bring anything (well, brought 1 pita & hummus, but I don't think that's going to do me). Also feeling very fat, so don't want to get a full meal. Hm hm hm. Maybe I'll go get another pita & a tub of baba or something. Moo.
Oh, and welcome back, honeymooners! How was the Far East?
For some reason, I'm totally craving pot roast today, so if we had a potluck lunch I'd throw a huge rump roast into my good ol' crock pot...so easy but so good.
First, just brown a roast on all sides...I do recommend poking holes into the meat and then stuffing it with cloves of garlic and herbs before browning...season it with salt and pepper. Then just throw it in a crock pot with one can of cream of mushroom soup, one can of cola and one envelope of dry onion soup/dip mix (I also like to add some fresh sliced onions also). Cook on low for 8 or so hours...or on high for 6...until the meat is tender and cooked to your liking. I usually serve it with rice or egg noodles. The gravy that this dish creates is so savory...it's a good idea to have a fresh crusty loaf of sourdough around to sop it up!
Unicorn!
Add that to the recipe post!
Duke, of course. I'm trying to decide if I should join the company pool this year. I'm kind of annoyed b/c the guy who sets it up (by which I mean: registers the group at CBS online & sends out an email) has decided he doesn't want to deal with collecting money, so at the end, he'll send out a note to the losers with who to send their money to. I need to see who all actually signs up, but damn. If you don't want to collect the money, why bother? I can see it now: "Hey, I sent you a check, I'm not sending another" or the ever popular no response at all. It'll probably be ok for the most part, since we're mostly at the same company, but maybe someone invites his whole softball team to join. Eh, I can't decide what to do. Probably doesn't matter, as I'll be the one sending money away . . . .
FYI - I just added a GREAT recipe for La Brea Tar Pit chicken wings on the recipe post. Jo - I think you had them before at a superbowl game some year or so ago...I've brought them to a lot of gatherings and they are always gone within minutes!
Soy sauce, red wine, sugar, ginger...can you really go wrong? I'm still a fan of just regular buffalo style, hot and spicy wings with a vat of chunky bleu cheese dressing...but these are a pretty good alternative!
rosie! copy and paste on the recipe post!
Uni, those were delicious.
I want some right now.
Rico, leftover spaghetti? I don't remember you coming over for spaghetti and Monday Night Football last night.
MSU plays their best ball in March. Watch your mouth, JV.
HT wanted me to share this with you: Teen Shot In Fight Over Tatertots.
I think there's video.
I'm thinking Jimmy John's might hit the spot today. I really want a coke, too. I'm so hungry!
Jo, what a weird story. (Re: tater tots) What's with the guy who didn't want them to stop fighting? How bizarre. It just gets weirder upon repeated readings.
chicken salad club sandwich and chips. V-8
1 pita + hummus at 11.
1 caterpillar maki + 1/4 portion edamame at 1.
Will go to drugstore for diet cola (soda machine is out of every single diet soda) & possibly choco-pretzels. Or maybe cashews. *So* hungry. Oh, wait. I can reheat the leftover edamame . . . .
I had the #10 Billy Club - roast beef, provolone, lettuce, tomato [which got discarded] onions, mayo on french from Jimmy John's with chips and a coke. I also had a HUGE pickle my co-worker brought from the country. Very, very satisfying.
It is outrageously windy in Chicago today. Obscenly windy, really, even for the windy city.
I need some candy and coffee. I am working on my company website and it makes me sleepy. The space heater under my desk only tempts into napping even more.
Is there an OWFL VIP room/detention hall that I don't know about today or is everyone just busy?
Mmmm. Why are stuffed grape leaves so goos?
um. good.
For the DC people: have you seen the new Nationals stadium? Let me be the first (on this blog, at least) to say: boooooo-ring.
Stadium Renderings
Hi!!
It's good you clarified that LT, because I actually mistook goos for gross, not good. I actually tend to agree with that they are more gross than good, though. Well, maybe not quite gross, but I don't particularily like the squishy leaf part. Didn't we have a debate about stuffed grape leaves on salad bars awhile ago? If I'm not mistaken, I think HT and Ospid agreed with me. But, I'm probably wrong.
Is it wrong that I always bring wine to a pot luck? Seriously. I always wait until the last minute and bring booze.
Sure, I've made the occasional dish (Csirke Paprikas, black eyed peas, cheesy onion dip, whatever...) but generally, I'm bringing a bottle of something.
(oh, and I'm pro-grape leave, by the way - well, most of the time)
