ho-hum, back to work

well, i'm back in the office after a nasty battle with a cold. i started getting paranoid and thought it could be bird flu. (or as the lil'choi accidentally called it the 'evian' flue...she's so cute!) but since i ate a lot of kim chi while in korea (and we all know that kim chi cures both the bird flu AND sars) i think that it was just a common cold from all that recycled nasty air on my 16 hour flight...i swear, a petri dish of nastiness.

so, now i'm depressed b/c i'd much rather be in korea right now enjoying my grandmother's amazing cooking. but i have to settle for a soggy salad that i made last night. what should one eat when coming back from the motherland of amazingly good food? what should one eat to lift one's spirits? WFL-ers, i need your help!

so, what sort of lunch will cure the motherland blues? oh, and also don't forget to tell me WFL in your neck of the woods.

Is there a place that serves Korean food in the vicinity?
Of course it may just depress you more if it is second rate.

I am headed to Soho for my guaranteed to cost $11 buffet lunch. It always cheers me up.

Isn't Jade sick too? And infrequent WFLer watchdog is home sick today as well. Is there a lunch bug going around?

Yeah la choi, i'm home sick with a cold, and i'm about to try out your korea magic. gonna get some bibim bap for lunch from adam's Express. Good shit, and I know you agree.

You should eat some more of that for lunch, though I don't know of any korean places downtown.

I decided what I'm giving up: Diet Coke. It's going to kill me. Longest I've gone was 3 weeks. And, because that doesn't feel like enough of a "sacrifice" and I'm finally able to, I'll be back in the gym (hopefully in the next week or two). (always good to do something positive, as well as give something up)

Normally I fast all day today, but instead I'm going to indulge in fish from downstairs. I feel like kickin' it old school - but as good as breadline is, it'll never be as awesome as fish sandwiches from the firehouse at home (where every week during lent I got to see the Moon Midget - it's where the fascination began), with a side of pierogies from the Catholic church.

Lent is probably the time of year I most miss home. I love Lent. And, even more than that, I love Easter. Though, I don't celebrate it anymore. But, it used to be my favorite. After fall, this is my favorite time of year.

ATTENTION:

I am no longer going out on Saturday nights. As if the TV Gods answered every prayer I've ever had, they have brought me:

Little People, Big World

If you need me on a Saturday, I will be on my couch, singing the praises of the TLC programming staff.

easter used to be my favorite too, HT. but mostly for selfish reasons...it's because sometimes my birthday falls on easter, so i get excited for presents and fanfare.

there is this tasty vegan korean place on K and 19th. however, it's near the ex's office, and he introduced me to the place. therefore, the likelihood of me running into him will depress me more. so i think i'm joining HT for breadline today. it's been a while since i've had my cous cous curried chicken combo. plus, my body is still off...i hope i'm hungry by lunchtime. i think my body still thinks it is 2am or something.

whoa, so the little people show family has 2 normal sized kids and then 2 other little people kids? dear god, this is fascinating indeed. but can't you just record that shit? HT, you cannot hole yourself up on saturday nights. i won't have it. there are re-runs you know.

i am not hungry, and it's almost noon. what's wrong with me? and no one is happy with the ginger tea i brought in for everyone. it's too medicinal for the people in this office. weak, i say. they are all weak.

HT - ever heard of Tivo? Hell you can get one that can record to DVD so you can even have it inperpetuity.

BTW that is an unhealthy obsession if you're staying in on Saturdays. Jo, can I hear a hey hey?

Jade obviously isn't doing well. Poor thing (and I just thought it was my bad post yesterday :) )

I'm sick today too...hangover sick...ugh..went to Pauli Moto's in Tysons for HH with some girlfriends...half price on all alcohol (which meant $3.75 martinis...who wouldn't indulge!!)...oh and some great lettuce wraps and sushi to boot!

I packed myself a de-tox lunch...turkey on wheat with lettuce, tom, sprouts and honey mustard with a cup of roasted red pepper soup and an apple. And water water water.

Just for lachoi I added some kimchi and jab chae to my overstuffed lunch at Soho. Eating it now. Good stuff.

jack, where do you work that you have to parade around in front of your co-workers in a bathing suit?

i don't feel like going out to get lunch, so i think i'm going to toast a couple of mini-pitas (assuming they aren't moldy) & eat the rest of the baba ganoush & hummus i should still have in the fridge. Unless the cleaning fairy threw it out . . . in which case I will be quite put out.

LizTurtle said...

HT, you are so full of crap. That show is on from 8 to 9! There is no excuse for not going out.

I believe I may have to dvr that.

HaterTot said...

I don't have tivo for a variety of complicated reasons that have to do with my being cheap on this issue because my landlord steals cable for me. I suppose I might have to figure something out - but in the interim, I'll either see you all out on Saturday after 9, or you can come drink and watch midgets at my house for an hour before going out.

Given a choice, I will choose midgets over pretty much anything. It's a sickness. But it's a sweet one.

Uni - what did you think of Paulimoto's? LT and I went the other weekend, and the service was awful. Food was pretty good and the saketinis were tasty. I could eat the ahi pizza thing all day. But that's some cheap liquor. Anytime I can combine drinking and shopping, I'm supremely happy. Though, it means I buy things like hand-etched sterling silver chopsticks.

yay on the jap chae and kimchi for lunch jo. you are a true follower of the cause.

it is good to see abs again. i know she's missed my random giggling fits that interrupt her train of thought at the office. and she wants to try the ginger tea. good for her.

she got a gift from the motherland too: a box of chocolates called "mini crunky". i just thought the name was funny. crunky...heeheehee!

not hungry yet, though i know that HT is going to come after me. he she comes now. we're going to eat.

We need to have a tv post soon (maybe tomorrow). I'm very curious to see what OWFLers are watching and your watching/eating habits as well.

The next few months promise to bring some very DVR-able shows.

And BTW, if you aren't watching The Shield, you are missing some damn good tv.

LizTurtle said...

Ah. I feel ya, Jack. Good luck.

E-que, I love the Amazing Race! I have it taped from last night, so don't tell me what happens. I can't wait!! I need to figure out my favorites & favorite-to-hates.

Yeah, the food at Paulimoto's was good, but damn. We were there for like 10 minutes before we had to accost someone for drinks. I think in all the time we were sitting there we only had one drink. Did we get refills? I kind of think we didn't?

Yawn. I'm so tired. And can I just say that Rico's picture of Rico is wigging me out? It's so porny. Ew. That's totally from his video, right?

This is great.

You'll need sound.

HT and LT - My friend, who actually came out to bravo bravo and angles Friday night (who may be spying in on the blog from time time because of our raves about it that night),lives with one of the bartenders so it was her suggestion to go there in hopes of a prolonged happy hour. Since she knew last nights bartender through her roomie...it was definitely one of those situations where he knew that if he gave the hook up...he'd get the hook up. All's fair in love and liquor! We should all go one night...of course as long as Kelly comes also...it's only fun if the drinks are a'flowin'!

spoilsport, the real reason behind "meatless" lenten days is much more sinister and has to do with a certain 18th century Pope's weakness for mutton. And a dream the Pope had about a mustached fish who horded all the mutton in a special box that only he (the fish) could open by singing a special song. The fish lived in a castle that you could only get to wearing magic stilts.

I'm kidding of course. That's absurd.

HT and i ended up at cafe asia for her fish/seafood fix. we both had the delicious curry laksa, which was HUGE! i have leftovers and will probably eat some for tomorrow's lunch.

i wasn't even hungry. but i rallied for HT and all WFLers. i now want to nap.

HaterTot said...

I ate like a pig. I was starving, which I think was somewhat residual from eating hardly anything yesterday.

LT, we had two cocktails each, but only because we ordered the second when the waitress was actually there. I'd be up for going back, especially if booze flows freely.

E-Que - I'm all for calling them Hater's Tots. I'm going to love that family. (The Roloffs)

SS - they prefer to be called "Little People"; I will never understand how that's better than midget, but there you have it. But whoa - I'm reading the family bios and it seems that the two boys, Zach and Jeremy are fraternal twins - one a "little person" and one a regular sized person. I can't think of a better show ever made, and I haven't even seen this one yet.

LizTurtle said...

Yeah, Kelly's great! I would go back to Paulimoto's, too - especially if we have an 'in'! Ha! I guess they're still new & trying to find their footing. Note: we didn't actually order a drink from the bar (our feet were killing us, just wanted to SIT), so all 'bad service' complaints were due to the waitress, not the bartenders!

Man, I can't wait for that TLC show to start. Maybe we should start a second blog for talking about it! LittlePeopleTV.blogspot.com??

So very very tired . . . and must make yoga tonight!

Sorry - I used way to many exclamation points in that previous post. I am nowhere near that chipper at the moment.

Midget Party at my house this Saturday at 8???? My tv's little though - just like the people!!

Who's in??!!

Unknown said...

i'm there for that midget party if my going to see murder ball ends early and also the possiblity of my friends coming in from nyc fall through.

check out the new icon folks...it's genuine artwork from HT. it's a pic of my sister and me with our new digicams. check out the ass she gave me too...hot stuff.

i'm falling asleep from the curry laksa now. and i'm burping it too...stink-a-roo.

That picture's hilarious.

I will have to miss this week's Little Person Viewing Party. Don't cry for me, Argentina. I'll be in Bermuda. The 11th, though? So there.

HaterTot said...

I'll be in Chicago on the 11th, and TheJade et al are going to have to indulge me my hour of midgets.

And, I want to go to Bermuda. I need a damn benefactor.

Josephus said...

I'll be at Bravo for at least a few hours drinking and conversing with some non-WFLers if anyone is thirsty.
