Helllllooooo? Anybody home?

Is anyone working today?

More importantly, is anyone eating lunch today?

Myself, I'm meeting up with TheOldRoommate for an afternoon of movie watching, theme: bad relationships. We're beginning with The Squid & The Whale (which, considering my love for Mr. Baumbach, is shameful I haven't seen yet) and following it with Matchpoint.

As such, lunch is looking like a heaping portion of angst, and if the reviews are to be believed, a generous helping of wit. The fun begins at 1:15, so I'm not sure what the appropriate pre-double feature afternoon meal should be.

What are those of you not driving back from the Keys today having? WFL?

Reading "beef biryani" always gives me pause, but then I remember that it's popular in other (non-Hindu) regions/cuisines. I've never had it with beef though.

I hope you didn't spend a lot of money for that diagnoses for your puppy. And, I hope that the itch is external rather than internal.

Feeling guilty about being in the office on Dr. King's day. Lots to do, though...like not be home! I owe him one.

No idear on lunch. It's beautiful today, though, so I think I'll take a nice long lunch/walk in a couple hours and just see where I end up.

[no pun intended]

Turkey Breast sandwich, red bull, and those little snack carrots. Compliments of the SO who made it last night before dragging me out to see a friend of hers at a bar. I'm 2 old for this shit.

My tummy is in an uproar today and I'm not sure why. The endless cups of black coffee are probably not helping. The coworker finally brought in some noodle kugel which I am sure I will be dining on in addition to something picked up in the neighborhood.

mmmmm noodle kugel ... its ok I had blintz souffle' this weekend so I'm done with milk fat for a while :)

I'm always down with milk fat.

Got a falafel sandwich from Brian's. (I may be entering Brian's phase.) It's good, but I don't agree with the way they make their middle eastern pita sandwiches. They put everything outside the pita and roll it, as opposed to slicing and stuffing. I know that with the latter method you do risk a major blowout, but with the rolling system a mess is inevitable. And you almost can't/don't want to set your sandwich down, for if you do, you have to clean your hands well (or just get tahini all over your keyboard like someone I know is doing right now), and then reassemble everything before you can resume eating. I suppose I should discuss this with the people there. Maybe I can get it sliced and stuffed in the future.

Oh God I love tahini so much I could eat it with a spoon. There is a place in the burbs called Pita Inn, I know it's a crappy name, but it is the best middle eastern I've ever had. And I eat A LOT of it. Best shwarma and baba ghanoush ever.

Been to the Glenview Pita Inn a couple times. It was solid, I don't know if I'd toss any superlatives its way...

Baba rocks. I've never made it before, but I think I'll try it this week.

I'm hungry for hummus now. I wonder if I could go get some for a snack. Had leftover crabcake from the crappy crappy (service-wise) restaurant on Friday. It held up pretty well! And was like 99% crab meat. The only problem was there was only 1 crab cake a few fingerling potaters. So now I'm hungry again. Which is really bad b/c I didn't heat it up until 1. It's way too early to be hungry again. Damn. I'm going to have to go buy hummus & pita. I hope Attila's is open today.

At work today (office not closed. My company is clearly racist), but not exactly working. which is really bad b/c I'm way behind on this shite. Siiiiiiigh.

I'm eating a smoked ham and provolone on french bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato from Metropolis. I love this sandwich. I probably won't eat my coleslaw. But get this, I'm drink a DIET coke. I just had to.

What is biryani?

LizTurtle said...

Damn, that was some good hummus.

Biryani is an indian curry sauce, I think? I could be wrong. I could also google it, but I won't. I have about 45 minutes to actually do some real work. Ha!

The best part is, I can go buy another fresh warm pita tomorrow and have the other half of the tub. Snarf.

hummus does sound good. We went from clearly eastern european to middle-eastern\med food pretty quickly.

Jade, whats so bad about diet coke? It makes a great battery cleaner.

Jada said...

Hummus and falafel are the only two acceptable preperations of chickpeas that I can think of.

James, have you never witnessed my tirades on artificial sweeteners? The only thing that upsets me more is crystal meth.

I was going to say "no way" to your last comment, Jade...but you might be right. Close to it. I like garbanzos on a salad (esp. a bean salad). I've really screwed up some things by adding them on a whim, though.

Jada said...

Yes Lester, I recall you describing a culinary fiasco you whipped up recently that included garbanzo beans.

The Doctor said...

Yeah...I'm still scarred by that one. Quite literally.
