down to business - SPRING CONFERENCE DISCUSSION

ok all, it's time to get back to the most important upcoming event in blog history...

the first annual OWFL spring conference in chicago!!!

we must now discuss what dates will be good for everyone. in conversations with madame presidente, we believe the time frame for the conference should be a weekend around mid-to-late march to early may at the very latest. here are a list of potential weekends. everyone must weigh in and state which works best for them. i will then tally up the results, and we'll vote. sound good? here they are:

- march 17 to 19 (includes st. patty's day!)
- march 24 to 26
- march 31 to april 2 (includes my bday and opening season for baseball, i think???)
- any weekend in april (7 to 9; 14 to 16; 21 to 23; 28 to 30)
- may 5 to 7
- may 12 to 14

ok folks, lots and lots of comments welcome! oh, and also, WFL today?

April 2nd is White Sox home opener, so I vote for that weekend. Plus my birthday is the 4th...

soup and sandwich for lunch. not sure what varieties yet. still feeling under the weather a bit.

I say NOT March 24-26, only because I'd like to be in DC for basketball (I know getting tickets is a pipe dream, but a girl can hope).

While I like the idea of doing it around the Final Four or St. Pat's or even Opening Day, I think we should be VERY conscious of not trying to overschedule ourselves. For instance: do we want to try to include a Trivial Pursuit showdown of some sort? Perhaps a Mr. Show marathon? I think we need to be cautious of trying to cram too much in. I'm not against combining things, but we've got to determine our priorities.

Also, Easter is April 16, and avoiding that weekend would be good, I think.

Lastly, (for now) I think the plan for the out of towners is to arrive on Th. evening, so we get all day Friday to have a couple workday lunches. Is this accurate? (it's my plan anyway)

Any of these dates (outside of the two weekends I mention above) will work for me, though my preference would be later rather than earlier, only b/c March 17 is only 6 weeks post op for me - but I'm a trooper and I'll do whatever it takes to be there!

Oh, lunch. Black Eyed pea salad (some of you may recognize it as the "salsa" you ate at or around the new year, minus the evil, sugar-infested, ass-growing corn), hard boiled egg and a little cheese. I think I have some jello left here, too.

And, perhaps the gym.

I vote for any weekend other than final four weekend, St. Patty's weekend and Easter weekend. I think it is very wise of Madame Presidente to counsel us to not overschedule. We have some serious lunching to do, very serious drinking seminars to attend and will most likely be contending with hangovers. Trivial Pursuit is also a possibility and if any one needs to learn how to play euchre and get schooled by us Michigan folk, this is your opportunity.

If people are arriving on Thursday, I would like to host a cocktail reception and welcome orientation at my place. It'll be a good cheap first nights entertainment and we can distribute conference materials.

People are also more than welcome to stay at my place. Ace will be with his dad, so someone can sleep in the toddler size fire truck bed, I also have two couches and a king size bed if someone wants to snuggle with me. And you know, the floor.

I once had sex (with my prom date, no less) in a race car bed. I think I am scarred for life. So, if it's okay with all involved, I'm going to call "ANYTHING BUT THE FIRETRUCK BED" now.

Anyway, just needed to get that out there. Moving along...

Jada said...

Yes, the fire truck bed is also small. If some one wants it, we can pull the matress out and put it on the floor. Appendages will probably still spill out onto the floor, but it would be better than being all jammed up in the fire truck.

You had sex in a race car bed? That's hot.

Oh yeah, lunch ... I brought mine today. I made stuffed shells with homemade red sauce last night, and I have a huge helping for today along with a sweet Italian sausage and some sauteed escarole.

Today was also my first day of school. Well, last week officially was the start of the term, but I skip never ending syllabus week. So I am back to my old schedule of class in the morning and work in the afternoon. Right now I am at the library. And I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I FUCKING HATE DePaul. Exhale.

Is anyone close to Evanston?

http://www.rochelletexesq.blogspot.com/ and I were talking about going up there to visit her relatives sometime in the early summer. We are taking a tour and hopefully hitting http://lachoi.blogspot.com/ as well in DC after we start our way back down. This is a stress reliever thing for the law student. Any suggestions on what to do while there?

That said, like a moron I posted lunch under last night's thread, so its Turkey sand and chips with a side of liquid adrinalin.

HaterTot said...

Sometime I'll tell you the race car bed sex story, but I have to be drunk.

Let's just say that sex in the racecar bed is not sexy, no matter how hard he tries.

HaterTot said...

Evanston? Like Illinois? And you're going to swing by DC? You know that's really, really far, right?

Any weekend works for me.

A modest agenda is wise.

I forgot leftover chicken pad thai in the fridge. Probably going with GP salad bar.

Had Honey-1 over the weekend. Shit's good. Very good.

i can sleep in the fire truck bed!!! i have no sexual scars as ethics does. plus, i am small, so i can probably squish to fit. anything to feel like a kid again.

today is my newest food obsession: tofu marinated in soy sauce & sesame oil with some fresh cracked pepper and just a dash of hot red pepper flakes.

this is a super duper easy dish to make. all you do is cut up the firm tofu raw and then toss it into a tupperware. throw on the marinade and let it sit for a while (the more time you give it, the more flavorful the tofu tastes!) then when you're ready to eat, you take a moist paper towel and cover the tupperware and heat in a microwave oven for 1 minute.

i am eating this delightfully tasty meal with some wild grained rice. mmm, it's really deliciously tasty! now, if only i had some kimchi, i'd be soooo set.

i don't care about sports or religious holidays. i agree with not overbooking ourselves with too many events in one weekend either. i will do whatever weekend people want the most. i will also take friday off to enjoy serious chicago lunch. ethics, jo, & other DC WFLers -- we should all fly out together. wouldn't that be fun?

and james, evanston is actually quite close to chicago, so you should definitely head in there for some big city fun and good eats. they have the best food around.

I did it once in a copy of the Apollo space capsule at a college dance once (it was at the science museum - very cool museum!). We also did it in a soundproof booth. And you know what? That thing really works!

Personally, I probably can't really do any weekend in April. I might be able to squeeze in the first weekend, but surely not any one after that. My exam is 4/28 (assuming I do decide to take it), so anything after that would be awesome.

Ethics, are those your soon-to-be-old boobs? What a rack! I am jealous.

Jada said...

La Choi gets the fire truck bed. I like having the girls at my place. I have two full bathrooms, by the way, so we can get all girly-fied without too much hassle.

Evanston is the first suburb north of Chicago. Dave's Italian Kitchen is one of my favorite restaraunts. To "swing by" DC from Evanston is quite a trip.

dizkonekdid said...

Sorry for the misunderstanding, this will be more like a tour. First Boston, then Chicago, then DC. But not Chicago really, Evanston. All her relatives live there. I figured since I was trying to plan to see all of our friends and family again before we become financially incapable as we have to pay for more books and everything else law school has to offer.

Josephus said...

James is it a driving tour? Cuz Boston-Evanston-DC is all sorts of backwards.

I think TP, Euchre and Mr. Show can all be done in one long night post lunch and bar activities. Or we don't bar one night and drink in and do games and whatever media we wish.

dizkonekdid said...

Jo, I usually only fly nowadays .. it is cheaper. And I work for an oil company :)

Jade, you'll be happy to know Slashdot.org just came up with this article:

http://news.com.com/Create+an+e-annoyance%2C+go+to+jail/2010-1028_3-6022491.html

Unknown said...

yo, can we also incorporate some karaoke into our conference? drunk karaoke is the best.

YEAH I GET THE FIRE TRUCK BED...WHOO HOOO!

the most unique places i've ever done it is outdoors. once on the beach of a wildlife preserve, once in great falls park off of the billy goat trail, and another time at night on the beach in cuba! that last one was scary b/c we almost got caught by the cuban police patrolling the dunes. that would suck to be jailed for a lewd public sex act in cuba no less. my ass would've so been on the news for that one.

ham & chicken club.
cup of cream of broccoli soup.
pineapple/orange/guava juice.

Jada said...

Thanks for the link James. While I don't like cyber stalking at all, I think that law is extreme, unnecessary and a violation of the first ammendment. There should be some kind of prohibition against making threats anonymously, but just "annoying" is too vague.

I had sex in a forest preserve once in broad daylight. I also got 15,000 mosquito bites in areas I never had before. Yummy.

Jada said...

Oh, and I proposed a game to Madame Presidente awhile ago that she endorsed but which I don't think has been discussed on OWFL, yet. I think when we are having our drinking seminars, we should only be able to refer to each other by our blog aliases. Therefore, I must be called THE Jade. If you slip up and call someone their real name, you must do a shot. Dipster must be limited to one official name by conference time, and hopefully ethics will have settled on her new name. Ideas?

Josephus said...

I like that game Jade. But since you insist on being called "THE Jade" I will have to insist on being called "Josephus" not "Jo". And of course you know that "Ricotubbs" will be the only acceptable way to address rico. Not by "horsecock".

HaterTot said...

I agree that rico needs a name change. Can I use my Presidente powers to order that?

As do I, and I'm working on it... any suggestions? Please take them to:

This is Not a Blog

And, thanks to everyone who has already made some suggestions - they are all being taken under advisement, and I hope to have a new name by week's end.

Just to recap, we're saying NO to:
March 17-19 (St. Pats)
March 24-26 (Basketball/Rico commitment)
March 31-Apr 2 (Final Four)
April 14-16 (Easter)

LaChoi, can you whip up a survey to encompass what's left and put it out with a close of 6pm EST tomorrow?

Keep in mind this is not the all encompassing lunch/conference survey that LaChoi and I will be working on over the next month. More on that soon.

Unknown said...

hip hop bar...whoot! speaking of which, i was totally watching save the last dance yesterday. damn, julia stiles so does the 'white girl don't know how to dance' role really well. i say that if we go to a hip hop club that ethics and horsecock have a dance off using the moves from the movie.

the jade: ditto on the bug bites in wierd places...i got bug bites all over my ass from that nature preserve nookie too AND in broad daylight as well! (what can i say? great minds think alike) the horseflies were out and they just saw my bare butt and couldn't resist.

i will distribute the survey by the end of today or tomorrow at the latest.

Unknown said...

oh and ethics? nice rack. it will surely be missed.

dizkonekdid said...

That is only 'cause I think we have established that La Choi is a "boob woman".

Josephus said...

I wanted April 2...My second choice would be the 7th-9th.

HaterTot said...

The problem w/ the 2nd is that it's on an event weekend, which I tend to think is a bad idea. We can include it in the survey though, if you'd like.

Ethics doesn't dance. That is all there is to say on that matter.

Bug bites are nothing ladies. Remind me sometime to tell you the tale of the night Ethics lost her innocence. If I'm really drunk, I might even show you the scars.

Josephus said...

I don't know if I want to hear that story ethics. But it reminds me of the comparing scar scene in Chasing Amy.

dizkonekdid said...

OT: no sex or food in this post

I am going to have an early mid-life crisis.

I found the car for it: http://www.globalautoindex.com/news.plt?no=1327#

LizTurtle said...

Hm. Does it come in an automatic?

LizTurtle said...

I would agree with avoiding event weekend dates. Um. Personally I say no to all April weekends. But a big thumbs up to the May possibilities! Or March. Which actually look like they're all out.

Jada said...

No way, I know my limits. I can't handle the hot. My melting point is at 90 degrees F.

HaterTot said...

As long as I can wear layers and wool socks, I'm set to go and can handle the frosty Chicago "spring".

I'm tough, dammit.

That said, I'm favoring the beginning of May, only because I think I can wear cute tops by then, if it's even remotely warm.

Unknown said...

me too, i can hang with the cold. i did live in boston for 3 years ya know...

ok, so the dates that are left open are:

- march 31 to april 2 (per josephus' request)
- april 7 to 9
- may 5 to 7
- may 12 to 24

these will be in the final survey. if you have a deep thing against any of these dates, speak now or forever hold your peace.

LizTurtle said...

No April 7-9!!!

Jada said...

Late May is bad for me, I will be in final exams. Earlier in the month is fine, though.
