Back to Work

While it pains me to be back in the office, I hope that today will mark a revitalization in the OWFL blog crew!

For lunch today, I had meant to be very good and go on my date with Mr. Teeter last night, so that today's lunch could be South Beach-irific, but alas, waking up at 5pm did not enable that to happen.

So, I think I'll do a salad at ABP. I'm not feeling especially hungry, but it's early yet.

So, WFLers - What's For Lunch on this first day back in the office in the New Year??

Good morning and Happy New Year lunchers! I had a big bowl of oatmeal with raisins and 1% milk, a banana, a handful of raspberries and coffee for breakfast, so I am not going to be eating again for a couple hours. I'm kind of craving sushi but no one in my office eats it and I'm trying to watch my spending. Although, it is a low cal option and I am also trying to watch how much I eat. Ah well, it's early.

Welcome back kiddies, I missed you!

Well, I brought in leftover pork stirfry that my mom made on 1/1, but my office party is tomorrow afternoon and we are having a final planning meeting about it. Not sure what needs to be discussed, but whatever. Also, the head of the committee said he would treat us to lunch. Hm! So now I have many possibilities! So I may or may not get food out depending. Also I had a ginormous bagel with garlic & herb cream cheese when I got in, so I a) am not very hungry right now and b) probably stink to high heaven. Phew.

Lunch will be at either Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport or Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport today. Not sure what it will be just yet. Sadly my alma mater was beaten in the bowl game I attended. However I can report that a good time was had by all. Full time blogging resumes tomorrow.

Also I should say that it was great to see so many WFLers at the JOsephus househould on NYE Eve. Of particular note is Lizturtle's unexpected arrival. Thanks to all for coming and making the party a success.

LizTurtle said...

Aw! So sweet! Thank you for the hospitality! Although my arrival seemed to indicate to all (except Ethics & LaChoi) that it was time to leave. Coincidence? Hmm . . . .

Sorry about the game, man. Bummer. But at least there was enjoyable tailgating by all! Happy New Years!

happy 2006! i'm still off today b/c i was smart and took an extra day. too bad i've had this nasty cough that's now been keeping me up at night. i'm seeing the scary bosnian doctor today...wish me luck!

i ate a giant latino meal of refried black beans, rice, and scrambled eggs with salsa valentina...ay yayyay! therefore, i don't think i'll be eating lunch until late late late. will report later.

Hi everybody!!!

I feel the need to rediscover the Gourmet Pantry's salad bar. The holidays did not treat my body very well. This is no resolution or anything, but I generally need to healthy up. That fiesta bowl sucked ass. I had to root for ND. So depressing.

Big Ten hoops starts tonight!

HaterTot said...

Yes, Jo. I too watched the game from the comfort of my couch, and was sad to see ND lose - I was definitely rooting for ya. When one's team is out of Bowl contention, one looks to the teams of one's friends and offers support there. In that vein, at least Virginia Tech won. Tonight I suppose I will tune into the Lesser of Two Evils Bowl, and root for the stadium to collapse.

And, Dipster - everyone knows that ACC basketball is where it's at.

I am, miraculously, still not hungry. I'm trying to abstain from soda as well as everything else enjoyable, at least for a little while, so I'm spending the morning filling up on lemon-lime Zazz.

Unknown said...

dude, everyone knows that the raspberry and black cherry zazz is where it's at!

i'm not much for dieting but i think i am going to eat less and healthier. i am definitely going to have a salad for lunch and dinner. but that would require me to get out of the house and actually go to the store. man, life is full of tough choices.

if i wasn't coughing up a lung, i'd probably go work out today.

also, has everyone noticed how many more commericals there are now about weight loss and achieving new years resolutions? i think the subliminal messages of tv ads are so sneaky and underhanded.

HaterTot said...

Why yes, LaChoi, I have. I almost don't want to tell anyone I'm dieting b/c it's so cliche.

But at least my reason(s)has nothing to do with New Year's or resolutions or any such bullshit.

I want to take this moment to (again?) point out the joy that is the Weight Watchers commercial with the God awful Cher song. I love that WW chose a song with the lyric, "This is a song for the lonely..." Why don't they just take it to it's natural next step and say, "Hey, you sad lonely fat woman. Tell your cats you're going out for a few hours, put the ice cream back in the freezer, and come to a Weight Watchers meeting!" Horrible. But yet, so funny.

LizTurtle said...

Ha! So true. Good luck at the dr., LaChoi. I went to this dr. 3 years ago (only b/c I could get a last-minute appt & was about to run out of pills) & he was the oldest person in the world. He drooled. I am not joking. It was the scariest thing ever. Shudder!

Ha ha - stadium collapse. I'll tell my Penn State friend that!

And word, Ethics. ACC b-ball kicks Big 10 ass.

dizkonekdid said...

Jade, what kind of people do you work with? Regardless, my day started off with thick black coffee and not much else. So the acid refluxe was cut back with Chicken Shwarma and Isreali salad ... mmmmm

Unknown said...

ok, i lied. i had some leftover pad thai. you know how i feel about leftovers, and it was going on day three so i had to act.

and yes jade, your coworkers don't like sushi? what's that all about?

The Doctor said...

The salad bar was out of blue cheese. I'm pissed.

The acc can jag me off. ARGH -- FINE - they are better, you know, talent- and results-wise. But the intangibles!!! Dean Smith screws squirrels.

HaterTot said...

Oh, it's more than that, dipster, my friend. However, you may be right about Dean Smith. He and Coach K can both blow me (if I had the anatomy for that sort of thing) - Gary Williams is where ACC coaching is AT! The man sweats through his suits! And, if you happen to be at the beach over the summer, and are an 18 year old coed - he may also hit on you. Magic, I tell ya.

The Big 10 hasn't been exciting since The General got booted from IU.

My only issue with touting the ACC as a whole is that it means that, implicit in that, I'm touting Duke. Do not be confused, young grasshoppers, as that is not the case.

Fuck Duke. Go Terps! Fear the Turtle.

(Still no lunch. I think I'm going to hold out for steamed chicken and broccoli for dinner. You know you're jealous.)

The Doctor said...

The ACC IS Duke. They're the crown jewel of the conference. You know, like U of M is to the Big 10.

Lunch! Lunch! Lunch! Lunch!

HaterTot said...

I will cut you the next time I see you if I hear another comment like that out of you.

You'd best sleep with one eye open at the Spring Conference, my friend.

We're very serious about Fearing the Turtle.

The Doctor said...

Crown jewel.

Yeah, we need to get over the closing of the Berghoff and start getting our plan on.

I just got my iPod Nano armband. I feel icky.

HaterTot said...

Well, I don't want to bog anyone down with numbers and statistics and things, but the ACC will be starting the season with more teams in both the AP and Coach's Top 25.

I will however give The Jade that Michigan can hardly be considered the crown jewel of much of anything. But again, I tend to get all caught up in, what was it dipster? Talent and results?

We shall see as the season wears on - but I will say this - I'll defend the ACC to the death, right up until it means I have to actually root for Duke. I'd sooner vote Democrat for the rest of my life than cheer for those cheating bastards.

HaterTot said...

Yeah, Jo and I discussed the need to discuss at his preNYE party. We'll have to make a plan when he gets back, b/c I need to get that shit on my calendar.

Dipster, now with this iHippie business - you're losing a lot of favor in my eyes today.

Jada said...

I will root for Duke over Michigan. I would root for the devil himself over Michigan, and I kinda like Coach K and I respect a program that actually makes a dedication to graduating it's players. But I will dry gulch any one of you before I hear you say anything bad about Izzo.

The Doctor said...

I think if I ever met T.I. in person I'd just start bawling out of shame. Gotta love him. No two ways about it.

Has Heaven on Seven been nominated for the convention? They make a mean turtle soup.

HaterTot said...

Jade, we're going to have to discuss 2001 and just how bad Duke cheats. They are terrible, evil, cheating sons of bitches. This is not a team with a history of integrity. While I understand the whole enemy of my enemy thing, no one in good conscience should root for that bunch of swindlers. (I'm waiting for LT to jump in here to defend her alma mater)

As far as graduating players, well, No Comment. I will leave it at that.

HEY. I have the greatest idea in the history of time. Why don't we schedule the conference around the Final Four? April 3 is the Finals, but that's a Monday - but the semis are April 1, which is a Saturday. We could come out the 30th and leave the 2nd...

Thoughts?

The Doctor said...

Interesting idea. In terms of weather, it's still a risky propostion in these parts. I don't know how important that might be to people. But, heck, May could be risky, too, so if people are game...

HaterTot said...

Well, it can't be colder than when I was there last month. I suppose it could be, but as long as I have my Albanian refugee garb, and others do the same, I think we'd be okay. Is there any reason we'd need to be outside for any length of time?

Unknown said...

whoa WFLers, i've been out to see the doc, and she says i have some sort of infection. ouch! antibiotics and inhalers for me.

um, i have no preference if we do it around basketball stuff. i generally do not like sports, but i like the sports parties. so if there's a party involved, i'm there.

i vote april/may as after may will technically be summer and not spring.

Jada said...

If we do it around final four time, we WILL be drinking at the Gin Mill.

HaterTot said...

There's a bar in Baltimore called the Gin Mill. Actually, it was my local for a long time, after we closed all the others down. My friend even met his wife there.

Speaking of Charm City, Baltimore needs to go on the short list of future conference cities, as it is magic town and full of delicious food.

LizTurtle said...

You bitches know I would have been defending Duke the second I knew there was Duke-bashing afoot. I was doing a little something called work, though. I would like to make it very clear that the 'Turtle' portion of my name is in honor of my kitty, whom I named in 1996 way before Maryland had any kind of basketball program. It's called history, beyotch! Also, I note a lot of name-calling & shit-talking. Just what Twerps do best! Oh, aside from rioting.

And what does it say about me that when dipster said U of M is the crown jewel of the Big 10, I thought "Minnesota is the crown jewel of the Big 10?"

Unknown said...

final four and st patty's in one weekend PLUS the convention?!?!?! wow, i have no words.

i think there's a gin mill in nyc too. a friend of mine was banned from there for being a drunken idiot. his pic was posted up on the bar and everything. what a moron.

as i said, i have zero interest in sports or sports shit talk. i will most likely be the one in the corner eating a burger, drinking beer, and just watching everyone shout at the tv. in my mind, i will be making fun of all of you.

yeah, i feel like it would be over stimulation, but i'm flexible.

HaterTot said...

1996? While I realize that you, being older than I, were out in the big grown up working world in 96, I was only then leaving the womb of college life. As such, I remember well a fine - non-cheating - basketball program, pre-dating your little kitty.

Look, I understand you guys paid a lot of tuition money, a large percentage of which certainly went to the fund to pay off officials. If that's what you want to call a "Quality Program" - then that's your business.

The Truth About Duke

LizTurtle said...

Eh, I don't like the trash talk so much. Say what you will, whatever. It's nothing I haven't heard before. I thought this blog was about lunch anyways.

HaterTot said...

My only request is that I would like to be in DC on March 24 and 26, on the off chance I can scalp tix that aren't ludicrously expensive for the DC games.

But St. Pat's is also a good thought, as it's on a Friday this year...

Brian said...

Happy New Year folks. (cough cough) I'm still sick. This sucks.

FYI: St. Patricks Day celebrations will probably spread over two weekends here in Chicago.

The parades are the weekend before: Downtown on Saturday the 11th, South Side on Sunday the 12th.

I'm sure a lot of people will be taking that Friday the 17th off to watch the tournament and start the weekend off early. That'll just spill over into Saturday.

If you want the touristy, Mardi Gras style St. Paddy's experience in Chicago, come for the parades the weekend before. If you just want to get shitfaced without all the pomp and circumstance, come the actual weekend of the 17th.

I didn't do lunch today. Too busy wrapping shit up here in my final week at this job. I start a new gig on the 9th and probably won't be popping in here too often over the next month or so as I go through training and whatnot. Dems the breaks.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go snort some more Zicam.

HaterTot said...

I'm actually afraid of parades, but I think I once heard that yinz dye the river green, which is something I'd be interested in seeing.

I'll see if LaChoi can whip up a survey so we can vote on a weekend.
