I am in Chicago and in my office here at 150 N Wacker. To my delight when I rolled in this morning I noticed a Potbelly's directly acoss the street. I couldn't believe my eyes. Thank you Chicago for being Pro-Potbelly's unlike NYC.
Anyhow, WFL's is there anywhere else around here I should opt for instead of Potbelly?
I'm also doing Nine tonight for dinner. Anyone been there?

Stupid Question Warning
So how was NYC against them?
NYC has no Potbelly.
CSR you should arrange a WFL lunch. Lester isn't too far away from you. BERGHOFF!!!!
I may be having a work lunch that could entail some good news. Fingers crossed WFLers. And a premptive congrats to CSR who will soon be joining the ranks of Lester and Hartot as managerial types. CONGRATS!!!
Is OWFL going corporate?
DO'H! I'm sorry hater! Please forgive me. And what is your hatin' managerial behind having for lunch?
Well, I was supposed to collect more burrito booty (as in plunder) today from the silly co-worker who once again accepted a wager on a Michigan vs. Northwestern contest. (Sorry LaChoi.) But, she’s got “conference calls” all afternoon. So, I am free CSR, but busy. I don't have time to stand in line at the Berghoff, that's for sure.
Rico, go to the grocery store, buy a sack of limes and sit there and cut them up. Keep me posted on CSR’s movements.
I'm busy interviewing assistants today. And, the person in my office who "coordinated" this process didn't do such a good job, so I feel like I'm the one going through the wringer.
I have stuff here for lunch, but I don't want any of it, nor do I like any of the usual options... it's early yet, so maybe I'll come up with a plan. For now I see cottage cheese and jello in my future. Maybe a salad from abp later.
Oh, and Jo - I was promoted from manager to director. Just for fact's sake.
Strange, I posted to an original post from ricotubbs, and now its gone.
Anyhoo, looks like back to the salad days for me. Gonna hit the cafetorium's salad bar.
Lots of managers on the post. Not me. It will be a while before I can claw my way up there in my org. Worst part of being a manager: subordinates...
Sorry Hatertot! Directors and Managers everywhere on the blog. It's obvious that the Directors are a bit more bossy than the rest of us. Dictatorial even. Thank G that OWFL is a democracy...
Hm, Jo, I'm crossing my fingers for you. I hope I find out for what soon.
Someone brought in a leftover home-made cheese ball, which I had for breakfast (not the whole thing - I restrained myself). It is all kinds of yummy. And it has almost every form of fat known to man. Mayo, sour cream, bacon, and, of course, cheese. God, it's heaven on a cracker. Or a spoon, if you're atkinsing.
I went to Theismann's to watch the game last night, so I'm having the remains of my ginormous fried chicken salad. It was yummy last night & I'm looking forward to more yumminess today. Hopefully it's not too wilted & the chied fricken isn't too soggy. Mmm. Cold fried chicken.
Trivia note, which I may have made up, b/c I was sort of over-hearing someone else's convo in a noisy crowded bar: Theismann's name used to be pronounced Thees-man, but he changed the pronunciation in college to rhyme with 'Heisman', as in trophy.
The Theisman-Theezman story is 100% true. It's told often at my alma mater and Rico and I heard the story from the horse's mouth once back home.
IT'S TRUE?!?!? Holy cow! I thought I was spreading baseless rumours!
Lucky you, Hater. I share my birthday with Swoosie Kurtz and Joe Kennedy - that is, Papa to Teddy, Jack, and Bobby.
I'm not going to be blogging much for awhile because I am apparently considered a child at my place of employment and have had parental controls installed on my computer. Of course the person who did such a thing is not adult enough to actually tell me, but has instead just avoided me and refused to make eye contact. I'm not bitter or anything.
Rico, I thought you had tickets for the MSU/NU game. I was going to ask you yesterday if you wanted to go, but it sounded like you already had tickets. Oh well, it sounds like I wouldn't have been able to get them, either.
Lizturtle, what made you bring up birthdays?
And Jade, this is not acceptable. Give us your IT person's name, number and address immediately. Time for the OWFL re-education committee to do some work.
I share a birthday with Ace Frehley.
If the news is good Hater, dinner is on me, CSR can pick up breakfast and lunch.
I share a birthday with Alice Cooper.
I share a birthday with the United Nations and MLK's death day.
As far as sharing a birthday with Alice Cooper, it gets better. On my 18th birthday, I was woken up by my clock radio and the song 18 by Alice Cooper.
Hater, I bet it is the time stamp on your computer. It is probably a couple minutes early.
Lucky Mikey.
Blogger has been acting crazy for me lately. The timestamps are always a little off.
Looks like my work lunch is going to be a late afternoon coffee. I think I'm going to High Noon for a salad.
Hater, I just assumed you were psychic.
Jo, I brought up b-days b/c Hater mentioned his b-day is the same as Joe Theezman. But since you asked, mine is September 6. Mark the date!
Jade, that's an awesome 18th b-day story. I can't even make up a joke about Swoosie Kurtz on my b-day, b/c I can't think of what she's been in.
I have never heard of St. Louis style pizza. Sounds insane. Of course int was in St. Louis where I first ate "snoot".
Me, Grandma Petsy and lil' cousin Mikey are all kindred spirits I'm sure.
Jo - it's spelled 'snot'. One 'o'.
Woah! I just posted & it totally stuck it in before watchdog's Yzerman post! I can look psychic, too! Awesome.
I share a birthday with Steve Yzerman. Quite proud of that.
Good luck Jo
I have never seen Lost, either, so I don't get the reference. I kinda live under a rock when it comes to TV, besides college sports.
I'm trying to do a lot of blogging right now while I can. In about 30 minutes I'll be done for the day.
whoa, lots of activity by mid-day! OWFLers are dedicated folk.
i'm at home since my work clothes are too binding, and the itchiness from my rash drives me insane. but at least that means i get to sleep a lot and eat a homemade lunch.
last night, i made up this black bean, kale, onion, and squash thing and ate it over wild rice. super delish, healthy, and filling. i will probably make that my lunch today.
lester, i have actually found a new appreciation of football after years of hate. so talk away my friends...i understand what the excitement is all about now.
i'm a manager of one future minion! i'll be interviewing people as soon as HaterTot finds her assistant.
GOOD LUCK jo. i hope your news is fantabulous.
i share my birthday (march 31st) with:
1. octavio paz -- famous mexican writer and poet
2. Rene Descartes, French philosopher
3. Franz Joseph Haydn, Austrian composer of symphonies and quartets
4. Robert Bunsen, German who invented the 'Bunsen' burner
5. Christopher Walken, american actor
6. Al Gore, American senator and vice-president
7. Ewan McGregor, American actor
my bday rules. i mean, christopher walken? come on!!!
Goodness, so much going on today.
Jo - good luck - didn't you just get some good news before the holidays? This is very exciting. I've still got mint gingerale for your boss, by the way.
LT - your cheese ball sounds delish. Is that little Ecuadoran girl still bartending at Theisman's? I liked her. She gave me a free drink when mine spilled - a quality I like in bar staff.
CSR - can we all assume you're having a Wreck for lunch?
Hater - good to see you!
Rico - when I need to look busy I read things online. Blogs, for instance. And newspapers. And various sites like Salon, Slate, NRO etc. But, I'm a newsgeek. If anyone questions me, I just say that I'm seeing what's going on in the world, and people seem to like that. I can't really get away with playing games at work though. E-que sounds like the expert though. I'd follow his recipe.
Jade - that fucking blows. Sounds like it might be time to consider alternate employment?
And, lastly, I share a birthday with Tina Turner, Charles Schultz (of Peanuts fame), Rich Little, Robert Goulet and John Harvard. Exciting, I know.
C&K BBQ serves the best 'snoot' around.
HaterTot -- you need to see the skit that will ferrell does as robert goulet. it's hysterical.
Yahoo "benton harbor civil disobedience" -- you can get some accounts from the summer of 2003. I know there were several C.O. arrests made. Li'l stream of conscience from the mind of the jade, you're homefree.
jade -- i'm sorry that you have to deal with this assignment. thoreau's "ethos"? is the civil disobedience part the fact that he escaped into the woods or something? i'm so confused. though, being the nerd that i am, this could be a really interesting paper to write. too bad the extent of my knowledge of ethos is limited and totally not philosophically based.
Why can't any of you managers and directors work in Chicago? I am fabulous. I need a new job. Someone hire me.
Snoots and Ears
July 18, 1998
Who but Jane and Michael would go wandering in search of snoot and ear sandwiches? They found them in St. Louis, Missouri at C & K BBQ Restaurant #3. Daryle Brantly serves award-winning barbecue, along with his adventuresome variation. Michael says the ear sandwich is surprisingly tender! If you're inclined to check for yourself, Daryle does mail order.

Ahhh..."Civil Disobedience" I'm an idiot, sorry.
Never mind.
I'm meeting friends at Spa Cafe.
Ms. Jo is a big Thoreau fan. Her family is. Walden made me want to to Oregon...(suicide). Good luck Jadie. And thanks to everyone for the good wishes. I hope it works out.
As far as the "how do you look busy?" question goes. I blog and read news blogs. Several screens open at a time. Simple.
I NEED AN ASSISTANT!! Actually, we're calling them a coordinator. But, I wouldn't inflict working for me on any of you. But, I would buy you lunch sometimes.
Jade - when's the assignment due? I could probably whip something up for you tonight and I'd enjoy it, because I too am a nerd.
I was once an 'assistant". Lester was the "coordinator".
Those definitely weren't the days.
You and Ace could move here and live in my spare room - it would be great!!
I'll talk to you when I get home tonight about the paper. My last interview is late, but I should be home by 8 or so.
I'm not a big Thoreau fan though, so is it okay if your paper positions him as a lazy hippie without the benefit of a jam band to follow around the countryside?
i have this HS friend who took a class on civil disobedience in college. it was at some colorado college/university or something. (boulder, maybe?)
anyways, one of their assignments was to go into a random class lecture hall, act up, and write about it. she told me that someone went into a hall of 200 students and started moaning and faking an orgasm in the middle of a lecture. i thought that was so funny.
haven't had lunch yet since i had a late breakfast of cheesy eggs and pita. but the black bean kale thing is waiting...
I had broccoli and hummus and some cottage cheese. I need to go grocery shopping this weekend. All this broccoli is making me gassy.
I am sad to report that the fried chicken salad from Theezmann's didn't hold up. But I think it's my fault. The lettuce totally looked like it had been frozen (which it wasn't when it was served to me) & I think a) my fridge is turned too low for this unseasonably warm weather we've been having & b) I had it on the top shelf on top of stuff, which seems to be the coldest part of my fridge - there's tonic water that has a ball of ice in the neck! How the hell did that happen? Heat rises, my ass. The chicken part was still good, though. Mmm, that was some damn good breading.
abunaigirl shares the halloween b-day with two of my granparents (the ones who made my moms).
I feel like having a DC WFL lunch sometime soon. Maybe at the Ascot again?
anyone? anyone?
Jo, when were you thinking? I might be able to come in to work early sometime next week & trek into the city for a long lunch . . . .
Well Lizturtle, I was just throwing it out there. Friday lunches are always nice segues into Friday drinking, but we should do it when people are available. Hatertot, abunaigirl, watchdog, e-que, lachoi, abs, anyone, anyone?
You New Yorkers need to do some recruiting...
Sigh. I wish I could drink at work. I mean, before 3.
Tomorrow Friday is not good for me. A week from tomorrow Friday works, though!
Blogs aren't exactly Father Smith's style (if we are referring to the same person). What about "Mother Smith"? She's a trained chef and Lord knows she's got plenty of freetime...(a joke).
Hatertot had a NYC friend by way of Canada who used to post.
I hate to be a "spoilsport", if you will, but I probably won't be able to do a DC lunch, especially not at Ascot. I'm a bit obsessed with only eating foods that I have control over their preparation, so I'm not eating out at all, unless it's a really plain salad or something from abp. I'm lame. Sorry, guys.
I could do a DC WFL lunch tomorrow. Ascot could work.
Hatertot, what's with this only preparing your own foods thing?
That really has to limit your lunch options i believe.
I'm jealous.
I just posted on my own blog about how much Houston sucks. Maybe I'll do a series of posts on it and put in pictures.
However, there is weird justice in the world about Theisman since ... well LT broke his thigh like a twig ... I think they show that film like they used to show the "Agony of defeat" ski jumper on ABC sports. It makes me wince every time I used to see both.
NYC isn't a bunch of snobs .. the freakin rent is high. So either its a mom and pop joint that has owned the place for centuries or its a place that charges $15 for a measely lunch.
BTW Chicago is the windy city (Blow hards and snobs) NYC is the Apple (town is full of pretty slutty women). Neither of which did I find true when living in NYC or visiting Chi-town.
Hell I can't even rely on NOLA to be a place where I can get piss-drunk and stumble along the side walk anymore.
Indeed it does - hence all the broccoli and cottage cheese. I'm being anal about diet and nutrition, that's all. I feel like I need to do this for a few months before I ease back into all the eating out etc. I'm a freak. I make no excuses for myself.
I am down for a DC wfl lunch whenever. I am also downfor a DC wfl happy hour (sorry Prez). let's eat and drink.
A-Girl -- i have to admit that i was sitting RIGHT BEHIND YOU on the 42 bus. you were with ms. S, i believe? i would've said hi, but i was totally doped up on benadryl that was literally in a cloud of anit-social grogginess. i was so sleepy that i almost missed my stop to get out by the CVS on columbia rd.
sorry A-girl! i feel like a louse.
i can do ascot. i can do anything on friday since i will get paid by then...i'm super super poor so THANK THE LORD that we're getting some $ tomorrow.
i'm blasting al green in my house right now. all is right with the world. and the rash has subsided significantly.
Thank you abs!
For those of you who don't know, abs is our very own Ice Princess and I've asked her to monitor Skating with Celebrities and report in with her thoughts. This is all very exciting.
Plus, we can safely assume, 99.9% of the time that abs had soup for lunch.
Do we have odds on the winner yet?
Jillian B. will win.
Jillian B. is an uber-hottie. She's got my vote whether she can skate or not.
DC WFL crew, Ascot lunch tomorrow? 1PM? I have an AM meeting and noon might be tough to make.
Ascot at 1:00 works for me.
El Presidente can have some rice and salad.
I only saw Todd Bridges (whose partner couldn't dance to save her life - she might be even worse than me!) and Nancy Kerrigan & Uncle Jesse or Joey or Jamba or whatever his name was on that horrible show. I was impressed with the non-skaters! I think I might have to tune in - especially if we're getting our own special review right here!
I heartily agree that Nancy Kerrigan should go back to CT & be the uber-obsessive mom you know all those Stepford-type wives are up there.
Madame Presidente most certainly can not have rice. Sorry guys, I'll have to sit this one out. Even without my food issues, I've got an interview at 2.
madame presidente, not even 1 itty bitty chunk o' butter chicken? your presence will be missed indeed.
i'm finally eating my lunch now...actually i guess you'd call it "linner" or "dunch". i guess you can also call it "supper". whatever.
ascot at 1pm sounds grand, barring there is no survey disaster since i do have one due at 5pm for a client.
Nope, sorry - no nothing. But more important than that, I can't be out of the office then. Have some milk balls for me!
