To Soup or not to Soup?

It's finally fall. 40 degrees and sunny in NYC. When the weather man reported today's temperature my brain only thought of one thing? Soup. Ashby's, a small deli/gourmet food place 4 blocks from my office has 8 or 10 Daily Soups when the weather gets frightful. I am hoping they will have a Tomato Bisque, or a Chicken Dumpling, maybe even a Gumbo, or Vegetarian Chili. All I know is that the answer to my question above is "to Soup".

Oh and I'll probably get the half sandwich with the soup for $7.95.

WFL everyone? Anyone else feely soupy?

i know pumpkin will feel soupy...she can't get enough of that stuff, remember?

i am, however, going to lunch at galileo with ethics, jo, and other folk. instead of stopping my pattern of non-stop eating these past few weeks, i might as well go for the gold!

Ribs or a sandwich?

I'll report back

I love soup.
Especially a nice corn chowder.
With chicken.

i'm a butternut squash bisque kind of gal. in fact, any kind of bisque is good to me. plus, winter is soup and stew season at la choi's home...i make vats! there's always plenty of leftovers too, so if anyone wants some, bring your tupperware over to my place and fill up!

Chicken Dumpling sounds heavenly...

I too have embraced fall, in the form of "winter pants" and a wool sweater.

We are leaving here shortly to meet Jo for lunch at one of the city's swankier joints for their "grill" lunch, where chef RD himself (or so I've heard) serves food right off the grill, for a fraction of the price of a regular meal at this place. I believe there will be soup on offer, and I believe that I will have some, should I find that to be the case.

Should be delish!

Of course, I forgot the plan (that I made yesterday) and brought meatloaf too, but that will be tomorrow's tasty treat. Or maybe it will be lunch #2/dinner since after work we'll be hightailin' it over to Pumpkin Soup's man's fundraiser...

Oh, the possibilities!

I'm not too crazy about soup. But I used to live in mexico and they have this crazy good soup known as "Sopa Azteca", i think its made from the aztecs or something.

Its got tortilla strips, avocado, oaxaca cheeze, and ox tail I believe. Lots of good spices.

Sometimes in the U.S. you will see "tortilla soup", but its never as good as the sopa azteca I got down in mexico. i could really go for some of that right now

Be warned, east coasters. I drove past the bank last night at 9pm and it was 18 DEGREES in Chicago!!!!!!!!
And the way the wind was howling, it should be there in within a day or two.

Adios fall. T'was a lovely one!

Hot fuckin' soup!

Somebody in my office just screwed up royally in a way that only she could(one guess is all you need, Josephus). Fortunately for her, I exist. I am going to fix everything (easily), keep it completely quiet, and extort the fuck out of her by making a request--no, a demand--for some TOP NOTCH...guess what...?

i must commend madame president ethics today for her wise timing on lunch at galileo. her 'strategery' was excellent since we beat the looooong line that other poor fools had to endure. pork shoulder sandwiches with pesto sauce, grilled green peppers and crispy lettuce on a soft home-baked roll. i ate 1/2 and saving the other for later before i hit pumpkin's Pumpkin's fundraising event tonight.

Good choice etics. I also got the pork and I the sausage. I ate half of each. Good stuff, but the company was even better. Sigh.

csr -- i'll freeze dry some stew and hopefully it will make it to you overnight...i also have some canellini bean soup with mexican chorizo chillin' in the icebox. want some of that too?

I am full of pork and canoli and soup and couldn't be happier about it.

Having said that, the time has come for me to rein in my decadent lunching habits. And my decadent dinner-ing habits. And my decadent drinking habits.

My lifestyle can no longer be sustained by my wallet or my pants. Be on the lookout for new Ethics posts about salads and herbal tea and the eliptical at lunch. Don't worry, I won't neglect my duties to all of you, but the time has come to revert to my healthy lifestyle of yore.

Healthier then the big cleanse?

The Doctor said...

I've offered a few people here to accompany me in my lunch extortion, but no one's up for a totally free, no holds barred, off the menu lunch at a nice hotel.

Tell me straight--do I stink?

HaterTot said...

dipso, what you describe there sounds more like "lunch" (wink, wink - nudge, nudge) than lunch. Perhaps you should make your intentions clear (one way or the other) and you'd have more takers.

jo - different than the cleanse. I thought about doing that again, but my body is in no condition for such a harsh procedure. I mean real "get healthy" stuff. Easing up on the boozing, continuing with the working out (this is one horse that I've already gotten back on, though I did so with such enthusiasm that I hurt myself and had to take yesterday and today off), cutting out bread-y, fat-tastic lunches of gigantuous proportions. But I also need more sleep, need to get my house in order, need to get my finances in order, etc.

I had an epiphany getting into the cab on the way back from lunch, and it's time to restore myself to a better Ethics!

Josephus said...

Ethics, does this have something to do with the upcoming procedure?

HaterTot said...

Well, yes, it does, Jo. Kind of. I do have to be careful about weight gain so that the procedure is as effective as it can be. Even though the Dr. said I don't need to lose weight or anything like that, I know that following the procedure, I'll want to look...er... different than I do now, for the sake of proportion and providing my reconstructed bits with a good forum from which to be shown off.

But in general, I am missing my healthier, more active days which was compounded by the last few months of work chaos, so no better time than now, I figure, since I don't really "do" the holidays, anyway.

Josephus said...

thank you.

I put mayo on a meatball sub, for fuck's sake.

Ethics, I'm on board for a ride on the health train.

HaterTot said...

Since I can't get a ticket for the health train until after the tailgate Sunday, I'm going to have a good few days.

LaChoi and I are contemplating breaking into our leftover sangays from lunch.
