Getting Warmed Up...

Yeah I can feel it. Taste it even. My stomach knows how special this week is. The cravings have already begun. So this provides an interesting Lunch quandary. Since every meal between now and Thursday is sure to be a letdown, how does one go about lunching?

Personally I may be the recipient of a special treat. Rumor has it that a co-worker has brought in some T-Giving food from a party she hosted this past Sunday. So I may get a jump on the festivities.

But what will you poor souls out there do?

What's For Lunch?

I'm at home studying for the physiology final tomorrow, and I haven't even eaten breakfast yet. I think I am going to make myself brunch on a Tuesday to give me the strength to finally memorize all the muscles in the human body.

I baked a slew of potatoes on Monday night with the intention of eating one for dinner and then having a supply to fry up for american fries. A big, heavy cast iron skillet is key along with pre-cooked potatoes. A big glob of butter and a little olive oil to keep the butter from scorching are first. I then coarsely chop the potatoes and add them to the melted fatty goodness and add lots of freshly ground pepper, coarse kosher salt and [dried cause fresh is out of season] dill and let them sizzle over low heat. Patience is important. You don't want to touch those babies until they are all brown and crispy. It takes at least an hour to get them perfect. I think potatoes are the most underrated of all foods. The ways in which they can be prepared is unlimited, and when done right they are simple perfection.

Then I'll fry up a couple strips of bacon and scramble up a couple eggs in a a spoonful of bacon drippings. Breakfast foods at other meals might be one of my favorites.

And of course, lots and lots of black coffee.

What are YOU having for lunch? And thanks for letting me play your game!

rico, are you planning to dine on that sparrow, or even planning to sit down to a plate of fries with mayo in homage to the Dutch (whose language is predominant on that site)?

Just wondering, since this blog is, you know, predominantly about lunch...

Jade, your post reminds me of my favorite breakfast/brunch dish. Good homefries are magical. Now I don't mean the shredded hash browns you can get at any IHOP or Denny's, I mean the chunky potatoes with big onion slices and green pepper that make you feel like a King. Smother them in some cheese and you've got a stand alone meal that can be eaten any time of the day or night.
There used to be a sandwich place here in DC called Frisco's that sold "exploded potatoes" which were basically the same thing. Delicious.

Free Chipotle, rico? You know that's going to mean women eating burritos all around... some with sour cream... mmmmm sour cream...

I'm having carrots and hummus, as we speak, actually. I think I'm doing dinner at Austin Grill, though I don't expect to have a burrito. Though, for rico, I just might...

Rico, have I ever told you the story about how going in search of a Christmas burrito landed me in jail with a meth whore and mexican midget named Sanchez?

I changed my picture just for Mr. Tubbs...

I have a very boring sandwich. With mustard on the meat side of the bread & mayo on the condiments. Don't hate me!

Sigh. Even worse I have a lunch meeting. Snore.

I think dipso may have more hate-fueled rage than I do... actually, I'm not sure that's possible. I truly do hate everyone, excepting a very, very select few. It makes me who I am. Plus I think that people who don't hate are the weird/deficient ones. Nice is for the Intellectually Feeble, I always say.

Big shout out to LaChoi and her amazing Japanese Curry. Wow. In fact, because her curry is so tasty, I'm willing to forgive her posting faux pas of the last two days. Mad Props to LaChoi!!

sorry for my confusion as of late. as the queen of multi-tasking, i was trying to post to the blog, eat food, type e-mails, read survey instructions, and talk on the phone at the same time. you can see that there was a slip up bound to happen somewhere.

i'm glad that ethics likes my japanese curry so much. it is soooo easy to make. in fact, if the DC peeps want to get together sometime, i can make a vat for all to eat. we can have it with a delicious bottle of gewurtraminer too. so tasty!

ethics -- is that a burrito supreme you got for your icon?

Oooooh, LaChoi, I am so all over your japanese curry vat. Mmmm . . . When ya gonna do it, huh? When when when??

It is a burrito supreme, LaChoi. Good Eye.

I'm going to change it again to something more seasonal though - this was just for rico's benefit.
