FINAL CONFERENCE POLL (unscientific, where's lachoi?)

April 7-9
Chicago or DC?

If you are interested at all simply write the city name you prefer in the coments section of this post. Speak from your heart and soul, His Lunchiness begs you.

ALL INTERESTED WFLERS ARE INVITED!

For those worried about offending people I refer you to this comment from a post written earlier:

The Jade said...
Blah blah blah... I don't want to carry over yesterdays emotional breakdown and debacle into today. If we need to put up a business post and talk about the conference [which I am still under the impression we are going to have, even if it is just Josephus and I] and executive matters, fine. Blah blah blah...

Blah blah... I thought about it last night for some time and I think DC might actually be a lot of fun. And it might even be good for me to get out of town and let the burden of entertaining and hostessing be on someone else. Of course, I would still be pleased as punch to have it in Chicago. But I would also be thrilled to go to DC.

Can the conference be salvaged?
Can the blog be salvaged?
I can't wait to find out!

Lunch Baron

http://www.blogomonster.com/lunchblog

Jo, I think you should make contact with these folks and their friends, see what their stories are and report back. You are our greatest diplomat, represent us well.

So, anyway, my first accomplishment as office lunch baron came today...in the form of BREAKFAST! I poked the January birthday babies all last week, and they finally decided to order food for today. And it was delivered at 8:30! A lot of people, I for one, don't get in until 9. I was riding up the elevator with a 9 o'clock co-worker (she once gave me meatballs for lunch and I was torn because I didn't want to eat them that day but rather take them home for dinner), and she was saying how she wasn't even going to go to the kitchen for breakfast, but rather would just go get leftover pancakes, sausages and hash browns and have it for lunch. I'm with her! So we're having breakfast for lunch.

You?

I once had a blog...

...or should I say, it once had me?

Yinz made me sparkle.

A New day!!

As the sole remaining uh Officer of what once was known as OWFL. I am happy to announce a series of sweeping changes designed to make all of your lives better and more productive.

First the Blog name will change to JOSEPHUS' HOUSE OF THE MOST PERFECT LUNCH.

Second all luncheoneers will begin the day by reporting to the blog to find out what "He who is held Highest among Lunchers" (Me) has decreed as the most perfect lunch of the day.

Third, all Luncheoneers will immediately purchase the prescribed lunch and fax their receipts to His exaltedness (me) .

Fourth, no Luncheoneer shall begin eating the jovessel (lunch) until He Who's Tastebuds Are The Holiest (me) sings the magic jovessel song which you all will be forced to commit to memory.

Jovessel, Jovessel
I eat thee to praisee Him
Jovessel, Jovessel
His essence warms my skin
JOVESSEL, JOVESSEL
His feet I long to kiss
JOVESSEL, JOVESSEL
Uncle Sparkle, Hatertot and CSR I DO NOT MISS!!!
Fifth, He (me) has decreed that the color green represents pure evil and no reference to said color or any word that is that color (except lettuce) shall be written or spoken of again.
Sixth, Steely Dan is the only music. All Luncheoneers shall proclaim this nightly and fall asleep humming Babylon Sisters.
That's enough for now.
The fun starts tomorrow!!!
Unless...

happy new year! (woof woof)

Today's post is dedicated to Lies and the Lying Liars who Lie them.

Lie about your lunch and then later remorsefully tell us what you're really going to eat.

HaterTot 4 - DC Department of Traffic Adjudication 0

Yet again, I emerge from traffic court victorious, bringing my lifetime record to 4-0. When are these people going to learn? They really should just stop issuing me tickets, because much like John Gotti and Bill Clinton, I am the Teflon Moving Violator. (parking violations are another matter entirely) I was in and out in a half hour, and into work by 8:30 - an unheard of time for this girl. My dilemma now is that victory always makes me hungry, but I need to hold off until I go and get bloodwork later this morning.

I also have the option of having a free lunch today, to go along with my free dinner, later tonight. The catch is, I'd have to drive out to the 'burbs and "work". I'm just not sure it's worth it, since my distaste for the suburbs is well documented here. At least it's the Maryland suburbs, but still. I've still got magically moist chicken in the fridge here, so we'll see how I feel in a few hours.

For now, I'm going to sip my Diet Sprite Zero and contemplate the world of options out there and available to me. What are you contemplating, fellow WFLers?

(oh, and, I "worked" - by that I mean had dinner at a Board Member's house - late last night, and didn't record or watch Lost. Anyone with my email and can hook me up with a summary, I'd be mucho grateful.)

Don't you forget about me ...

Don't think for even one split second that I have forgotten about you, because nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, I miss you guys and checking in with OWFL comments at regular intervals throughout the day. I will be sitting at my desk wondering if it is too early to tap into my tasty salad and I'll think La Choi would completely understand my dilemma of being so hungry but not wanting to eat too early and be craving a second lunch in the late afternoon. Or something incredibly raunchy or some obscure pop culture reference will pop into my head and I'll think "Jo, needs to hear this," or a walk to the White Hen will produce an encounter with a fellow man that will fill me with temporary rage and I just know HaterTot and Hater would empathize. And for several days, I've needed to tell "Uncle Sparkle" that I do NOT approve of the recent name change.

But as you well know, I am grounded. It does appear as if the situation is temporary, but for the time being my posts and comments will be sporadic at best. I do not however, want you to even contemplate for a second that I do not take my OWFL duties seriously or that you made a mistake when you offered me a contributorship position. Therefore, I will be giving a nightly recap in the comments section which will include details of my daily lunch, a brief synopsis of the days comments as well as what I would have contributed to the discussion. Have faith friends, I have not gone away and I will not be forgotten, damn it!

And remember, a pleasant, satisfying and nutritious lunch is not the privilege of a select few, but it is a basic right for all free Americans. So go forth and eat well. And then share the details.

What is for lunch?

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

I might be getting sick.

I don’t know if it’s a bad sick, or just a little wussy sick. Feels kinda cigaretty. I’ll start with coffee. Later I will throw some braised lamb at it (that would be lunch). If that doesn’t work, I’m making chicken soup when I get home (either “lemon grass and ginger,” or “unreasonable garlic”) and consuming a 2 liter of Old Towne G-Ale, multiple pints of oj, lots of water, and maybe some scotch and cigarettes (in case there’s something to this homeopathic bugaboo).

Anybody else having lunch today? Would you like to talk about it?

Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down...

I just quoted a Crapenters song... shoot me now.

It's not even particularly appropriate, as I'm kind of in a good mood today - so far, at least. Stay tuned for changes. The Hate is only an interaction away, I'm sure.

But, part of why I'm in such a good mood was last night's meeting of many of the DC WFLers for an evening of steak and blow jobs.

Mr. and Mrs. -Que, LizTurtle, Jo, LaChoi, Abs, and yours truly gathered with some other non-bloggers at the District Chophouse to indulge in some good old fashion gluttony and the consumption of much cow. (or crab, in the case of E-que)

Ms. Turtle's rather large mouth is the stuff of legend, and at the end of the meal, the subject turned to that topic and soon 3 blow job shots were placed in front of LT, Rosie-que and me. Rosie-que started us off, and did an excellent job, almost expelling the shot through her nose.

I went next, and had the poorest showing, needing to use my hand, and struggling. I still assert that the rigidity of the glass is what foiled me.

(this photo is awful, but because I love you all so much, I am sharing. Please note: the 6 chins are the result of my trying to push the glass in my mouth. At least now Jo will stop calling me "Spunky")

But, the undisputed Blow Job Queen is LT. Dear God. It's really a sight to behold. Sadly though, this picture doesn't capture it.

Congratulations, LT! Your crown is on order, and we will present it at the conference.

It was great to see so many WFLers (and other friends) in one place, on a Sunday night, even!

But, now onto the pressing matters of today: What's For Lunch on this ugly Monday?

150 N Wacker & Randolph

I am in Chicago and in my office here at 150 N Wacker. To my delight when I rolled in this morning I noticed a Potbelly's directly acoss the street. I couldn't believe my eyes. Thank you Chicago for being Pro-Potbelly's unlike NYC.

Anyhow, WFL's is there anywhere else around here I should opt for instead of Potbelly?

I'm also doing Nine tonight for dinner. Anyone been there?

Sad Office

Each month, the people in my office whose birthdays fall in that month are allotted certain moneys for the purpose of purchasing food for everyone. You know, couple hundred bucks gets us pizza or burritos, sometimes breakfast, fajitas…whatever. We April babies did Potbelly’s.

April was the last month to do anything!!!!!

I need to take control of this situation, perhaps revolutionize the process. Obligations and affections to the midday meal shouldn't be limited to this blog or the people who participate in it, right? I need to make lunch better in general. We all do. I’m not fucking around. Action will be taken today.

How do your offices approach communal lunches?

And wfl?

"Hey 19, no we've got nothing common. No we can't talk at all..."

That's Josephus at 30 talking to Josephus at 19. And Josephus at 30 (me) is fucking serious. Stay away from me you asshole. That young bastards' antics over about 14 hours on Saturday turned into THIRTY straight hours on the couch from early Sunday morning till Monday.
We cannot hang out anymore. I mean it. And don't try to bring your other 19 year old friends "CSR at 19" and "Rico at 19" around. I have it on good authority that their 30 year old versions have sworn you and them off as well. So get the fuck on.

A few notes on Key West:

1) It's pretty Gay, but not as Gay as I had been led to believe
2) Uncle Bob does well for himself.
3) It's hard to sightsee from the couch.

If I can keep my eyes open long enough I will be having soup for lunch.

WFL?

Helllllooooo? Anybody home?

Is anyone working today?

More importantly, is anyone eating lunch today?

Myself, I'm meeting up with TheOldRoommate for an afternoon of movie watching, theme: bad relationships. We're beginning with The Squid & The Whale (which, considering my love for Mr. Baumbach, is shameful I haven't seen yet) and following it with Matchpoint.

As such, lunch is looking like a heaping portion of angst, and if the reviews are to be believed, a generous helping of wit. The fun begins at 1:15, so I'm not sure what the appropriate pre-double feature afternoon meal should be.

What are those of you not driving back from the Keys today having? WFL?

Saturday, January 14, 2006

Saaaaturday, in the blog…

I know there are others who claimed that they would/might be working today. “Working,” I have now accepted, is simply a euphemism for blogging. So, we’ll see, hopefully someone will be around. Otherwise, it’s just me, dipso, dipster, Uncle Sparkle and whoever else is rattlin’ around up there.

I've done some unorthodox eating today. Late heavy eggy breakfast. (One of us will talk about that later.) Don’t know if the next meal I have will qualify as lunch or not. If not, perhaps we shouldn’t be here.

Rico in Miami, As We Blog

Courtesy of CSR...

This was followed by a text from Rico:

NO MAS POR FAVOR

I SO wish I was there... but as a spectator, not a participant.

UPDATE:

(text from Rico)

I WANT THEM TO KNOW 2006 IS THE YEAR OF MY DICK

(I can't stop laughing, I need to leave the office, now)

MLK dedicated lunch

hello my beautiful WFLers!

in tribute to the great rev. dr. martin luther king, jr., i thought it appropriate to dedicate today's workday lunch to him.

my suggestion is having some kind of soul/southern food today or at least trying to accompany a soul/southern side dish to your already existing meal.

for example, perhaps you brought a sandwich today, or a hard boiled egg with a green bell pepper, mayo and jello. your options are to:

a) add a side of mac n' cheese, collard greens, or ribs to your meal

OR

b) write a haiku (5-7-5) dedicating your lunch to rev. dr. MLK

the choice is yours. either way, get creative folks. this is your WFL challenge for the day.

The Berghoff

I am still very sad that the Berghoff is closing and won't be available as a lunch destination for our spring conference in Chicago, therefore I will be making a special trip to the loop today in order to have lunch there with a fine fellow What's for Luncher. Most likely, my lunch will include some kind of sausage and sauerkraut and maybe a lager or two. Because it is fun to drink during the day and then return to work.

Are there conference matters that need to be discussed today?

And more importantly, what are YOU having for lunch today?

Airport Lunching

I was traveling the last two days during lunch so I had limited choices. Monday I flew to Austin through Chicago-Ohare. Yesterday I flew back through Dallas. Dallas has better options than Chicago. Anyhow, let's discuss which Airports have the best offerings.

I hate Ohare. Wolfgang Puck express sucks my ass. Their pizza's are either too floury or too greasy. The food courts there are a travesty as well. And the Great American Bagel company or whatever it is called should be sued for using Bagel in it's name.

Dallas is nice. Aunt Annie's Pretzel's rock.

Austin is great for the Salt Lick BBQ, as well as Schlotsky's.

Detroit is very nice in the Northwest Terminal. They have a National Coney Island.

Any aiport successes to share? WFL everyone.

Just, Wow.

Okay, none of you but possibly Spoilsport will get what a HUGE effin' deal this is, but check out our Google rank for the search "Chipped Ham Isley's". Seriously - I can be like a local celebrity at home now. Fuck.

Chipped Ham Isley's

Ob-La-Di

I forgot my pad thai again. My windows don’t open, and I’m only on the third floor anyway. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

Have salad, I guess.

No, wait, I’m going to eat fruit. Hit the fruit bar over at that gourmet buffet. Pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries…maybe a slice of kiwifruit. Oh, that they would have blueberries! Some cottage cheese, mayhaps…

President TT, I heard about that name change…sort of. I misunderstood and thought it was “HaterTot,” which I kinda liked. I’ll miss ethicsrocks, but welcome to your new self! I’m still searching…

- any weekend in april (7 to 9; 14 to 16; 21 to 23; 28 to 30)
- may 5 to 7
- may 12 to 14

Number 55 out of 23,300,000!

Go ahead, google it for yourself. The Original What’s For Lunch comes up near the tippy top of the second page of search results for “What’s For Lunch” (no quotes – slightly higher (51 - last entry on the page) if quotes are used.)

This is pretty exciting, guys. Congratulations and keep up the good lunching. Never has “WE’RE 55!!” sounded so good.

30th Birthday Lunch Ideas

Today I turn the big 3-0. So depressed. It has completely derailed my normal thought process for everything including what to eat for lunch. What does one eat for lunch in their 30's? Does it get any better? Help!

Thursday, January 05, 2006

Not for lunch

I can't believe it is nearly 11:00 CST and the lunch post is not up. My computer at work is having all sorts of fits or I would have done it earlier, but alas I am here now and let the lunch talk commence. What a terrible first day I am having. Forgive me.

I realized a couple weeks ago that I often talk about the things I won't eat: Indian food, organ meats, blue veined cheeses, canned fish, artificial sweeteners and non-fat dairy products top my list. But, I am curious, what foods do you refuse to allow to pass your lips?

And most importantly, WFL?

Back to Blogging (if not quite work)...

The looooooong plane ride(s) back from the desert left Josephus feeling a tad under the weather, so the big return to work is postponed a day. Blame United Airlines' system wide computer failure.
The BIG return to OWFL begins now! And in the spirit of back to basics lunch blogging let me tell you the delicious treat I plan on eating in about 85 minutes.

2 slices 12 grain bread
two slices honey ham
2 slices smoked turkey
one slice swiss
one slice muenster
two slices tomato
two thin slices onion
a liberal helping of sandwich peppers (courtesy of ethics)
4 slices avocado
mayo on both slices of bread
5-6 drops of my new soon to be "world famous" salad dressing

I sampled the sandwich last night and nearly passed out it was so good.
Ethics' peppers and the soon to be "world famous" salad dressing really made the difference.

I will enjoy this sandwich while bundled up on my couch watching Mr. & Mrs. Smith...and drinking Vernors (again ethics).

What will you poor working souls be dining on today?

Tuesday, January 03, 2006

Back to Work

While it pains me to be back in the office, I hope that today will mark a revitalization in the OWFL blog crew!

For lunch today, I had meant to be very good and go on my date with Mr. Teeter last night, so that today's lunch could be South Beach-irific, but alas, waking up at 5pm did not enable that to happen.

So, I think I'll do a salad at ABP. I'm not feeling especially hungry, but it's early yet.

So, WFLers - What's For Lunch on this first day back in the office in the New Year??

Monday, January 02, 2006

Greetings from the desert...

Josephus blogs from Scottsdale, Arizona this morning. Rough night last night to be followed up by tailgating with friends in preparation for the alma mater's big bowl game this afternoon. Rico Tubbs is in attendance. We are currently firing up Buzzard's (our host) gas grill to have some breakfast steaks that have been marinating for 24 hours. Got in at 3:00 last night (mountain time) and had some of "one day will be Mrs. Buzzard"'s chili. Delicious.

Lunch will consist of assorted tailgate food. I am very tired, but still feel a bit like a kid on Christmas morning. I also have the strange feeling that this will read like a teletype from the front during World War 2. Stop.

Anyway, Happy belated New Year to you all and I look forward to resuming full-time blogging when I get back to work on Wednesday.

Go Irish.

And of course ...

What's For Lunch?
